Raikun
What bothers me is, if DumaOS is ready for a different device, what stops them releasing it for the device they have been working on for years, the way it should have been. I am not against Netduma growing and making partnerships, but effective client relationships are much improved by transparency, and this feels like you graduating college and celebrating at a neighbor's house instead of with the family that paid for your damn major in the first place. Sgt-Greco
I wish Netduma crew the best of luck with their new partner. Just a couple of thoughts. I find it rather unlikely to purchase, not because of the high price, but because I feel "betrayed"..... It just doesn't feel right. I'm not aware of the terms or the agreement of this partnership, but I think Netuma devs should insist on top priority for early buyers. After all, these guys supported the new product, helped the community, uploaded tons of videos with tutorials, settings, reviews etc. One more thing to all the "it will be ready when it's ready" dudes. Maybe now you've learned your lesson why it is so important to keep your mouth shut every now and then.

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 9, 2018 Administrators Share Posted January 9, 2018 Hi all, I can't respond to you all personally so I will answer the general themes I have seen in the comments. Thank you for all the kinds words and the feedback. -- Can you exchange the R1 for the XR500 or get a discount towards the XR500? - Netgear are a separate company so that wouldn't be possible. Can we put DumaOS on our existing Netgear router? - No you can't. Unless Netgear decide in future that they want to allow that. Why April if DumaOS is ready now? - DumaOS for the R1 has/will have more new and exciting features which therefore takes longer to perfect. As it is slower hardware we also need to do a lot of speed optimisations. As well as doing the Settings section ourselves. The XR500 utilises Netgear settings integrated with DumaOS. Availability outside the US? - That is a question for Netgear but I'm sure they will branch out of the US soon. How fast will updates come out/will there be new features? - The R1 will have faster updates and new features in the long run. The price is too high. - We don't have any influence on how Netgear calculate the final retail price. Does the XR500 have the Anti-Jitter/Anti-Spike feature? - No, that is on our R1 roadmap. Alex49H
It's funny hearing everyone complain here, but I guarantee they buy a new smart phone every year without questioning it. Hardware changes, get over it. The R1 will still be better because it won't have any influence from Netgear making the final say in the product. You forget that the whole point of DumaOS was to make a solid base operating system, which can be built on top of and customized to what we wanted. ^^^^^^^^^^ What MoD said is correct! See, this is what irks me. DumaOS will actually take longer on the device that it was meant to run on, but suddenly, it will run oh so fine on hardware it was never considered running on. It just doesn't add up. And to reply to the comment about the iPhone (even though I use Android), how would you feel if you were hoping for an iOS update that would fix your issues, only to have it ready at a later time on YOUR phone, but somehow sooner on a completely (more expensive) device? Soloflyerz
I can see both sides here and am happy for the duma team, that said spending even more yet again to basically make the one pain in the arse game that’s still years behind play well seems like a bad move. At least for now I’ll stick with the R1 and unless I see some amazing difference gameplay wise which is near impossible for a router an upgrade seems unlikely. Maybe after taxes it’ll be worth throwing that extra money at just cause that money’s easier to blow with it just kinda falling into your lap. Think the community here would have felt much better if this wasn’t so far past the intended release already or the r1 upgrade was alongside this new release to show the early folks they’re not being left behind with this new partnership. Anyway good luck to the duma team and hopefully this April upgrade isn’t another missed date for r1 os cause it has been quite a long road. willphule
As we are all painfully aware of this, is there a chance we could see new hardware from Netduma in the next year or two? I have to admit to being really torn right now, I would love to have the newer/faster netgear hardware but I don't want to miss out on the new features that will be coming out on the r1. As it is slower hardware we also need to do a lot of speed optimisations.
FQs19
Netgear DumaOS is basically a Netgear router with the Geo-Filter and it's priority QoS. Fraser just said it won't get the anit-jitter feature. So i'm betting it's not getting anything else besides the Geo-filter and QoS R1 DumaOS will have all the features they've been talking about for almost 2 years including the anti-jitter/anit-spike. I'm also betting that Netgear made Netduma sign a 90 day Do-Not-Compete clause against the XR500. What I hope is that when they release DumaOS for the R1, that they have enough personal to handle support for both the XR500 and the R1.
Sindonesia
So are these the same features we have now, only difference is the way it’s laid out? I don’t see anything different then what is offered now. Also is this one self sustained or do I need to spend hours on the forum to get it to work? Thank you for the statement. I have one last question which hasn't been addressed. With the release of DumaOS in April, will the R1 support 5ghz wifi? You mentioned speed optimization, does that mean the WiFi may improve as well? I would love to stick with the duma if there will still be unique features, but the poor wifi is a huge drawback. MrWhooz
So there are no new features/changes on Duma OS (Netgear), so it’s pretty much the same software just thrown on better hardware and a new $300 price tag.
Honey Badger WS
It looks like the R1 will have the better features than what the netgear will have and if we have issues with the r1 we can go straight to netduma without going threw a third party. Your reply fraser just saved me kids a load of money as I was insisting they bought the new router as they use the WIFI and not me, BAD DAD. Cheers for the update, looking forward to the launch in april.

MikeTHIS
So super happy for your guys! As one of the earliest early adopters, I am happy to have supported you guys from the humblest beginnings. I’m happy to see that the R1 will still receive what we’ve been promised, and a few more months won’t kill me. While netgear makes a solid product, I don’t use my R1 for WiFi so the extra pep of it combined to a limited feature set is a turn off for me at the price. Maybe one day I’ll update the hardware when it’s needed, but right now I’ll just wait it out.

fuzzy clam
Congrats on the partnership. And to those that are pissed off or feel they are entitled to something...at the end of the day Netduma is a business and if you don't make money your not in business for very long. It has been a longer than anticipated wait for the new OS but if you guys know anything about business, you know that there are certain things you can discuss openly and certain things you can't.Have you ever heard of a NDA...? It's just a guess but I'm guessing as big as Netgear is everyone from Netduma had to keep quiet about what was going on. So you really can't blame them as this is a really big deal for their company. And as far as the new router goes,I'll stick with my OG Duma as I'm sure when the new OS is available for us to use on our routers it will be excellent. Again congrats on the partnership... RunningOnEmpty
Can this be answered please? The answer to your question is no, it is not the same feature set as your current R1. It has the as yet unreleased on R1 DumaOS. We won't see the features until April.
II Z IE IR O II
Can this be answered please? Some of the features have been “tweaked” to run more efficiently. The Netgear router offers better WiFi features if that’s important to you because of the processing power and latest technology that the Netgear offers. The anti jitter/anti spike feature is only available to the R1. This feature is not available on the Netgear. If WiFi is important, the Netgear is the way to go as you will never get the WiFi features that Netgear offers compared to the R1 and what it offers hardware wise. I hated running 2 separate devices. One for the geo-filter and one for WiFi. With the Netgear, I now have the best of both worlds! People just need to remember that Netduma is a software based company and Netgear is a hardware based company. The key is the software! But by implementing the 2....you now have one badass gaming router that I doubt other companies can compete with as the geo-filter is proprietary! That’s the one that makes Netduma stand above the rest!
major masingil
I don't understand all the butt hurt comments here. You have purchased a router you have had several free firmware updates that added enough new features that you should have paid for a new router anyway. You still have the same router you decided to purchase before this announcement. If you purchased an R1 in the last month, I can understand your point of view to a limit. The reality is, nothing on this planet has to be fair. Don't hate on netduma because of bad timing, those are the breaks sometimes. Sell your R1 or deal with an additional wifi router in AP mode to have 5 ghz as you had planned all along. From my perspective that additional router in AP mode gives you more options, more ports, and better/easier bandwidth control for non gaming devices because you can put it on its own subnet.
