Netduma Iain

I know that I'm not a dev but, last tweet I read from Iain (working on firmware) was they are wanting to make the firmware as robust as possible as they want the Turbo mode to last 5 years and/or beyond. The new firmware (1.03.5) will enable Turbo mode enabling speeds of up to approx 900Mbps (for those who can achieve those speeds).

It's in beta, meaning it is being tested but last I read there was tweaking needed and Iain is working on that and will release his fixes to the beta testers and if everything is fine after that, then it'll be released shortly for all to benefit from.

It should be noted that Netduma have been working on this .5 firmware for over a week, there were earlier beta versions of .5 but they caused the beta testers some big issues, which is why Netduma hadn't released it for everybody.

more like 6 months mate joke

To be honest the Turbo mode hype is kinda a joke to me. It takes less than 2mb to game on and most of us are running 100mb or less so no real benefit there. I think most are thinking this is going to have more qos upgrades such as ip bandwidth allocation and the ever so infomace jitter dampening feature, but sounds like those are back burner to turbo mode for the 1% who need it.

Hello there guys.

I can totally understand the frustration about future updated. All of us have been waiting for it.

This update its focused around the turbo mode which is actually a major update and the update after that will have that most anticipate Anti Jitter feature. Its seems like this is a simple implementation and it only applys to small number of people(I agree) However that have to bee done first to build anit feature on the top off that so it works both for those with highs speeds as well as the all others. And implementation of turbo mode its very complicated its sort of changing the base and testing and fixing if needed to make sure that it works whit it as well as without it. I know it sounds simple but seeing how beta testers struggles its not that simple.

I am not a NetDUMA employ I am just like you a Customer and I ask You guys lest be patience and gave them the time to make it perfect.

I want the anti jitter portion of the update as much as anyone because it's an issue for me.But the duma boys aren't gonna put out a half assed update that isn't functioning properly just because people get impatient and want it now.

And I know this cuz I'm one of those people... ;)

I'm sure if we let Iain do his thing we won't be disappointed

Turbo mode is essential for their future plans with the R1 overall. Iain whilst tight lipped, has some strong ideas in mind and he has stated this on Twitter.

What else is important, people are not using the R1 as their primary router because of the overall speed being limited to around 125Mbps or whatever with 1.03.4. It's important that users with 200Mbps or more speed have an ability not only to be able to use their paid for speed, but also be able to use congestion control with it, in a household one person may game whilst the rest kill the service with YT and porn streaming.

Netduma has to cater to everyone, if they want to sell more routers.

I know these days we want things the faster the better. And we also want it without problems. That is a recipe for failure. I just want to say this Iain is one man doing the job that larger companies have whole departments doing. Put yourself in his shoes and let us try to understand the pressure he is under. And the same goes for Fraser. Keep up the great work Duma.

Devs please update on how things are going. Ty

Would just reiterate what has been said so far.

We think we can use this for the next 5 years so its better to get it right now. It's undergoing testing and fixing, when we feel its ready we can give it out for further testing and then hopefully release after that.

Just to be clear, I wasn't complaining about the update timeline, I'm just tired of hearing all the hype. This update while part of something bigger and better will really have no impact on gaming in general, yet half of the community is so pumped for it posting every few days "is it out yet"? Maybe if it was cleared up a little for those not on twitter people would calm down and wait for the following update with the real goods.

1.03.5 is more important than people assume, it prepares for 1.03.6 which will improve our experiences and will be noticeable.

Whilst I want the anti Jitter as badly as the next Duma owner (if not more) I believe the firmware after .6 which changes everything is most vital because it will be a testament to the 'future' of Netduma.

I'm just glad more is being done, I mean the R1 did more as far as I'm concerned than my R7000's for gaming since my purchase back in December 2014.

Umm.... Nobody here talking about the update has mentioned gaming except you.

I Want the update to make sure I don't need to return my duma. As of now I am suppose to be getting 120mb down off of my 170mb that I pay for. As of now even with a duma tech help I barely get 100mb on a lucky spin of the speed test. Most of the time it's 80mb at any point of the day. Off of the router I see nothing but 150mb+ at any time during the day.

So you can see why I am asking for updates on the progress. The forum goes more than a week with no updated news. I am not impatient for the file, but I do expect updates on how things are going.

Last time I checked this is a gaming router...

Last time I checked the next update doesn't change gaming. Nobody is talking about it, but you.

Technically since we're probably talking about online gaming, any update to the router is going to affect online gaming. I'll tell you now that there will be users who this update helps immensely.

Just because you don't think it will affect you personally doesn't mean it is not a worthwhile update. As has been stated previously, this is a foundational update. You don't skip pouring your house's foundation because you want to get to assembling your gaming room.... upstairs. If the Netduma guys want to continue to grow their audience, they can't offer a product that effectively limits your bandwidth. It's not going to happen. The people that understand what's happening and have seen the magic will buy in, but many people will only see their speedtest speeds drop and return it.

Now let's also remember that the success of Netduma as a company is on all of our best interests -- more success == more revenue == more resources to devote to development == shorter development cycles == more features for us, more often.

Also, it avoids the very real possibility you face with any startup company, where you can't pay your bills and you have to shutter the company. No new features, no more cloud updates, eventually you have to start manually whitelisting game servers.

People -- have some patience. Have some respect for the work it takes to bring us these updates that we did not pay for.

Also, not addressing you personally xolhid, yours was just the last reply in this chain of both complainers and level headed people. :-)

No one needs to talk about gaming because .5 was never going to revolutionize the gaming aspects of the Netduma, .6 will most likely.

The Netduma R1 delivered on its gaming promises since December 2014, if it hasn't for you, you might want to check your ISP and line coming into your home(s) first.

People need to chill and let Iain and his crazy music do the work.

I worded that quite badly, I meant we hope to get it out before the new year, we still have a few months :)

Could i replay in italian language??

Of course, we'll use Google Translate so keep in mind it might not be a very accurate translation haha

I thought you were trolling in the original post, but now I'm still unsure lol :)

When you say "we still have a few months" you mean until the end of the year, or a few months to complete 1.03.6?

Haha oops, I mean the new year is quite far off, we still have a couple of months to try and get it released, we'll try to get it out as soon as we can
