Would you recommend the XR over the original model?

If you have speeds that would benefit from AC WiFi then yes but it all depends on your budget/what you want really.

NetDuma,

I have been lurking on the forum for a number of months now - predominately due to issues with the router and monitoring the development progress.

It's got to be said that this announcement was 5 months ago & we have not seen any progress at all with regards to this aside "it'll be ready soon" and even so much as to use the release of 3.0 to stave off crippling software issues in the current live releases.

What is the state of play?

Hey, welcome to the forum!

We don't make a habit (anymore) of making deadlines/promises about when people can expect updates as it is always subject to change. That being said we're working on it full time and are doing thorough testing with the hopes of doing a beta soon.

Thanks Fraser.

I appreciate the response & forgive me for being sceptical but I've seen the same response multiple times over the months. I understand putting forward a release date/ schedule for said release can lead to expectations; but as it stands I'm looking at other options - as I'm sure many other users are since as it stands, there are problems with this router that do not appear to be getting fixed.

Ignoring version 3.0 for now; is there anything in the pipeline to release small firmware updates to fix well documented issues - DHCP lease timings, log size control, QoS?

DHCP would be down to Netgear, I'm unsure if they plan to fix this prior to 3.0. Log size do you mean what entries it shows? You can do that already in the Settings page. What is the issue you're having with QoS?

In answer to your questions:

The log clears itself after a set period; there doesn't appear to be an archive, or a way to increase this log duration. This is especially frustrating when on a daily basis I experience a internet disconnect; only to find that the events prior are mostly cleared due to the log clearing. If it hasn't cleared; I can usually link it to a DHCP lease change, which I can only assume is the lease expiring to the WAN port and thus causing a connection drop during a new IP assign.

AFAIK I'm not having an issues with QoS - it's something I have however read is an issue on here from forum members.

So from a consumer perspective; as far as I'm concerned this is a NetGear product - so it should all be to do with NetGear; yet we know that the main software development comes from NetDuma - unless I'm incorrect in that assessment? I'm unsure as to why there is this disconnect between NetGear & NetDuma - it's a single product sold under NetGear. Would you recommend I go to their forums to raise this?

I've not heard anyone requesting a more thorough history of logs so I will raise that as a suggestion. NG are aware of that DHCP issue. Regarding QoS I assume you're talking about potential issues to do with some setups which we'll be resolving. We do the main software development - the DumaOS part and Netgear take care of the settings/hardware and it comes together into a full firmware. No need to raise it there we're all aware of the issues that exist currently.

I would like to have the 3.0 milestone for my router what do I have to do to get the APK?

APK is an Android file, the router doesn't use that type of file and 3.0 isn't available yet.

I just signed up on these forums recently. I’ve been over on the Netgear forums for awhile though. I just wanted to put my name in the hat for beta testing the XR700 3.0 build when it’s ready for testing. I’ve already mentioned this over on the other forums and was told to also let you know over here to ensure I can get in when it’s time.

Is there any timeline or news on testing the beta firmware? I haven't heard much since a lot of us threw our name in the hat to test.

No news yet, we're still hoping to have the beta take place soon.

Hey Fraser,

Just wanted to reiterate, in case you didn't take note from my IPv6 thread that I would definitely be in to test for the IPv6 QoS, etc, on my R1.

Thanks!

We've made notes of everyone who has expressed an interest in the beta. We may make an official list closer to the time for people to sign up to.

Would like to be added to the list so far as well. Got an XR500 in use currently, R1 as a backup too. Can't wait for V3.0! 🙂👍

You know what, I'd rather not spam up the thread and just wait for the beta form, but if you are taking notes on it, I'd like to put my name up considering I'm stuck on .40 due to the DHCP renewal problems I had with .56. Unfortunately, .40 has its own issues with my 5ghz band with certain devices, but at least they're not router-breaking if I leave them on 2.4.

Have we got an official list of new software enhancements for 3.0? I'm keen as mustard for the beta for my r1.

Not yet, we'll be keeping some things underwraps for now.
