mike
well the title says it all but heres more info i use a ps4 and currently have a ps4 gold headset what i want is a WIRED headset only WIRED no wifi/bluetooth etc just WIRED , sorry for stressing this but i know ppl will post about bluetooth sets which i dont want. so i want surround sound (7.1 yadda yadda yadda) i defo want more than stereo and over ear cups not on ear and a good clear mic , tbh the ps4 gold mic is awesome so that is the bar. price range ummmmmm erm say £150 max. i dont youtube twitch etc i just game and take the p1ss out of my mates the general thing really lol. now as to the why , well during the day i hook up with mates so my headset gets drained so i have to plug it in while i play this in turn drains my controller and then when i game at night either one or the other tells me the battery is low , and now some one will say buy a wried pad , erm nope i use a scuff pad (i find it gives me more control in destiny) which is bluetooth. thanks in advance for any advice or info etc
iAmMoDBoX
I say Astro A40 TR with mixamp. Plugs into the USB of the console and has 7.1 surround. I love mine
Knomax
A good combination is Astro Mixamp Pro + Siberia Steel Series v2 i use them for a year and they are very good....mixamp takes the sound from your console with optical connection which is very good. ColonicBoom
I have Astro A40s and the mixamp. They've taken a beating over the years but they have been brilliant but i'm looking to replace/upgrade for the winter. I'll definitely get the new mixamp but I may replace the A40s with something else
Zennon
Astro mix amp with the Phillips X2's and Mod mic Ive tried TOL headphones costing 5 times as much as the X2's and nothing beats them for sound stage and positioning for gaming I feel. ColonicBoom
I've been finding players' locations much harder to pinpoint (until they get quite close) in BO3, compared to other CoDs. But I don't know if that's the way the game's sound is, the settings I have in-game, or the fact that my mixamp+A40s fell from quite a height last year (several times). RobReapz
The sound is weird in BO3 some games you can hear the enemies a mile of and other games their rite next 2 you b4 you hear them. (and no the enemies werent using dead silence etc lol) it seems tied in with hit detection for me which is weird, when i have gd hit reg i hear well and when i dont, i dont seem 2 hear shit lol. fuzzy clam
IMO anything by sennheiser is great, also AD700's (I think they have a different version now) but have a huge soundstage and are an overall really nice set of cans and for chat of course Mod Mic as Z said along with some sort of mix amp, astro, triton etc. For an all in one gaming headset (cans and mic) sennheiser's selection is really hard to beat, just depends which way you want to go. mike
i normally play destiny now , i was a cod player i started on blops1 (late i know) and every year it was cod cod cod every november theres a new COD , i must get the new cod i must get all guns diamond , then i got destiny (and yes i know it has major problems due to the game being chopped to bits and there trying to code in updates/patches to a chopped game which is never going to work or work well) but i went on blops3 this week and omg its awful everyone is green barring but the lag is terrible i norm play hc tdm and i get hitmarkers and then i get a one shot killed as im hitting the guy just wtf , then you look at the lobby signals and yes theres a red/one bar player that pops up out of nowhere ffs. ColonicBoom
Yeah that happens for sure, I will check and they have no sound perks on andI could not hear them at all yet i can hear someone in a room half way down the map. I've noticed this plenty of times too. Some games on Fringe I can hear people from so far away it seems like cheating and then other times they'll be within stabbing range before I know (and it's too late). I usually check their perks when this happens and I'm surprised how often they're not using Dead Silence, even more surprising is that they're not walking slowly to limit their noise either - they can run full-speed into the barn and even if I'm not firing a gun I might not hear a thing. sharpz44
Want good sound, forget the gaming headset crap, there's loads of options, for your budget get a a Astro mixamp 2014(not theTR) this can be used as your amp then get something like Samsung SR850 or if you can find them on eBay audio technica ad700s,then attach a mod mic anthilion 4 for your chat ,you will need a y adaptor to split the chat and sound ,this will give you a massive sound stage with a crisp mic, also go here for pro help for what you require. http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-3-18-2016-mrspeakers-ether-c-1-1-added
sncjez
I use AD 900's with dss2's and a mod mic fantastic set up you just need to steer away from the cheap high price plastic that's sponsored to gaming.
mike
@fuzzy i thought that the astros where used by the pro gamers esp from the reviews i read @sharpz i dont want a lot of mither and messing about (since when did a set of headphones turn into a technical nightmare and minefield ?) nor do i want wires tracking all over the place as i have enough wires as is some of which tbh im not sure now on what they do and the odd times i have to replace something i always find wires as everything is in one corner tv/sky/ps4/ps3/hdd recorder/sound box/hifi/amazon tv/android tv and there all linked together in some way or fashion ffs lol. I have another option for you, this will be wireless,I also own these which are Steelseries H wireless, they have been re branded and now named Siberia p800 and x800,they are very good and versatile ,you may be able to get the H wireless on eBay at a reasonable price ,they come with two battery's so one is always charging and you will never have the drained problem, mic works well so I'm told in chat also you can use there pre sets or adjust the EQ to your liking.heres one on eBay for your price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steel-Series-H-Wireless-7-1-ch-Gaming-Headset-now-known-as-Siberia-800-/191941678964?hash=item2cb09d9774:g:7oUAAOSwtnpXqPjJ
Gamingcavalier
I have two sets that I use at the moment. One being the PS Wireless gold as yourself, I find them ok for the price. The other is the Turtle Beach Stealth 500P, still wireless but if battery life is your problem, these puts the PS set to shame, almost double. I don't play all day but I tend to only charge them every other night after playing(might even last another session tbh). On the downside, I find they are probably not as comfortable as the PS set and slightly worse on surround sound, they are a 7.1 set, but seem more like 5.1 on PS4, but they have 50mm drivers rather than 40mm, so the sound can be thunderous if desired and very crisp.. If I have to be pedantic, it also has an annoying flashing blue light if you play in a dark room. Mic works well too. A few people seem to have snapped them as they are very stiff over the head. Not sure if it's what you're after but perhaps another option at half your budget
major masingil
wtf is a "mod mic" , i know iv asked but i fear the answer as i think that will take me down a whole new road .......... its just the name of the mic anthilion sells. It's a mic you attach to the side of your headset. when you are starting down the road of finding a decent gaming headset, the path usually leads to a set of headphones that do not have an integrated mic. Zennon turned me on to a pair of Sony open backed MDR MA900's and they sound 10X's better than the 2013 Astro a40's they replaced.
