Plan for next router upgrade, Halo 5 and BOP3

Hi everyone,

Just a quick post detailing the plan.

Next Router Upgrade

The upgrade that has download prio, turbo mode (allowing high bandwidth throughput) and few other goodies is looking pretty stable now. Fraser & I have found one bug to do with Wifi & turbo mode. I hoped to fix it today but I need to go to a wedding. Anyway assuming I can fix it I'll get Fraser to retest on Monday. Get some people to beta test and hopefully get the green light.

I'm trying not to over-promise here, if the wifi bug (when combined with turbo mode) is a pain in the ass it could postpone this deadline. So please don't pressure us to release it, we are doing our best.

Halo 5

We have researched Halo 5 matchmaking. The game is purely on dedicated servers and annoyingly the search does not restart if the Geo-Filter blocks the server. You can however guarantee a local game which has much lower ping but you may need to restart the search a few times. I'd suggest making the filter larger then you do for CoD. For example make it the size of continents e.g. North America, EU, Aus, East Asia, etc and see how you get on trying this.

We will push out a cloud update soon. Fraser is working on that today and this weekend. He will create a Halo 5 specific thread with instructions on how to get on this cloud update.

BOP3

We've just got Black OPs 3 and we are starting to port it now. At first glance it looks like your Netduma will be compatible with the game already but it's not yet optimised. We will push a cloud once we have got it all fully working. Again Fraser is working on it today and over the weekend to get this completed. He will also start a thread for BO3 once it's ready.

If anyone is getting a strict NAT, this looks to be a false reading and a short term fix for this is to boot up the game with the Geo-filter disabled.

Future Cloud Updates

Now that we have all these new games we will be doing cloud updates more frequently. There's no master IP database in the world so there will be a few servers in the wrong location and we would love your help finding them. In each of the threads Fraser will create you can help us optimise the Geo-Filter further and improve the experience for everyone. But don't feel like you need to it will still work fantastically!

Future Upgrades

After releasing 1.03.5, I will release a minor update soon after that will fix many of the common support issues. For example, why is my speed low? Why aren't my settings being saved, etc. These will be automated from install.

Then the next upgrade will be a whole new beast version 2.0. It will include the anti-jitter, anti-spike tech as well extremely fine control over your bandwidth down to the application layer. You will have more control of your network then ever before.

Lots of exciting things coming soon, happy gaming #DumaArmy!

Thanks Iain.

Just one question.

Is it just the wedding and you're off, or the wedding and then partying till you drop?

have fun whatever you do...

This worrys me, just ordered an r1 it had not occured to me that it would be throttled to a mere 120mb after all gigabyte ports suggest its not. Im on a 200mb connection, i pay a lot for that connection, i was just looking for how to cancel my order (havent recieved confirmation of shipping yet despite paying for next day delivery so it should of been a simple task) as i saw the speed issue was to be fixed in an update announced way back in may which is yet to be released (very important issue when you pay so much for a router and so much for the isp speed)
Now im unsure, if its likely to be fixed monday then well i can put up with it for a day or two (assuming the r1 arrives tomorrow as paid for), hell a week would not be to much hassle (very annoying but not too bad) but had i of brought this in may with the assumption the patch would fix the issue that would of been nearly half a year of paying for more bandwidth then i can use.
Really surprised that the net speed issue is not priority one, specialy since you state your for the streamers. Sorry to sound negative, im not trying to be nasty, just i know had i of seen that the device could not handle a fast connection i really would not of brought it.

EDIT: just seen a reply to my other thread. hmm early next week is not an issue (months would of been)

I wouldn't worry about it.  We've been testing the beta for faster connection and had some issues in the past.  The folks at Netduma is trying to optimize it even more so we as gamers has really no issues.  I currently run a 300/20 connection.  Before the beta, I still used the R1 because it made my game play that much more enjoyable.  What I did was use the R1 strictly for console gaming and my wireless router (ac connection) for everything else.  That way, I'm still utilizing my fast connection for my other devices.  This was the work around until recently.

What you can do until the update comes out is this:

Modem > Current Router > R1

Use the R1 strictly for gaming as gaming doesn't really require a lot of download/upload speeds.  Like I said, this is the workaround until the update is released.

Thanks everyone for the support. And the great wedding banter :P

I fixed the issue, but Fraser has been very busy today so he'll have to test it as soon as he can. Hopefully he can get round to it this evening. Then I'll get beta testers on it and fingers crossed it will be out very soon.

I think we know most of the issues with BOP3 and they are all fixable which is great news. We will continue to run cloud updates to optimise the locations for everyone.

Is there a way to opt in to the beta updates?

cool to know its out soon but the port speed is very mauch a major issue with router.

I have ordered a device to fix the wireless issue, but that will again use the ethernet ports (for which i have ordered a gigabyte port ethernet switching hub as im out of ports lol)...this is costing way more then i planed for :( sadly that device wont be with me until wednesday!

i dont know if others use the built in wireless as much as me but i have noticed since having to switch to it (the duma only played nice with my network once i put the superhub to modem mode, an issue with the superhub not the duma) if i leave my phone connected to the wireless of the duma then after a few hours it gets a little exclamation mark on the wireless icon and thats it, no more data is sent or recieved untill i turn the wireless off and on (microsoft approach to dealying with bugs , undocumented surprise features :) )*

I maintain i love the software of this router but the hardware really is driving me nuts! once the critical speed fix is done it should be all golden though (even the wifi issue as the device im getting will circumvent the wireless of the duma)

this is the extender i brought http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/netgear-ac750-plug-in-range-extender-a36ng(for those that may have the same issue, note that you use it to create a new access point and not extend the existing one)

*edit

this only effects my android phone (sony xperia z3) , my security cameras seem quite happy with the duma's wifi and have yet to lose connection, though its not fast enough for 2 way audio and hd video ...both features i have not used often to say the least.

Try disabling Wifi workaround in Settings >> Miscellaneous :)

Try disabling Wifi workaround in Settings >> Miscellaneous :)

what does the workaround do?

at the minute i figure ill just wait for the access point device to arrive, but if the work around doesnt do anything needed then ill disable it

It was designed to help in congested networks but caused Wifi drop outs from some people.

Is there an updated eta yet, really need that critical network speed issue fixed, when copying files across your network is this slow and you have 658 gb of data to copy across...... Lets just say I looked at the return policy today, managed to convince myself to wait, just need to know it won't be long
