DumaOS 4.0 - "Never Coming To The XR Series" - I PAID FOR DumaOS! SO I GET LAST YEARS UPDATES!

  • L2W - Ship Jumping 2 R3 changed the title to DumaOS 4.0 - "Never Coming To The XR Series" - I PAID FOR DumaOS! SO I GET LAST YEARS UPDATES!

Why did you buy the XR1000 when you already knew that this was a dead partnership? I think Netgear imagined the partnership differently than how it turned out, and they are now simply sitting out the remaining contract period.

Wanna see what happens when you buy their router ? The R3 , as you'll have access to all the latest and best features DumaOS has to offer. Not only has the XR been completely forgotten about , I mean WAKE UP XR FAMILY! We haven't seen a damn ounce of progress or let me rephrase. WHAT WE ARE USED TO SEEING!

So anything new or access to a beta for us XR users anytime soon?
DumaOS - NO BETA and WE DONT KNOW WHEN OR WHATS GOING ON!
Now i firmly believe that statement that we get all the time when asked about beta. Quite frankly NO-ONE knows. Cause their isn't anything COMING!

Just 18 hours agoo...... What im saying is , JUMP SHIP and look at the response you get when you purchase the R3!!
-So again @Netduma Fraser , and of course the dude who just ran through my about me section, @Netduma Jack B Thanks for this little SLAP IN THE FACE TO ALL XR USERS! Getting Updates on the REGULAR must be nice., Nice to know firmware is given a time frame and such speedy delivery too. I ask with all good intentions......... WHERE DO WE XR USERS STAND?

Hi There,

Clearly you're a bit annoyed about the whole situation, which is understandable. However, just to make things clear. We are not the same company as Netgear, the XR router series is collaboration between Netduma and Netgear.

We informed customers that the XR series would not be getting DumaOS4 about a year ago. However, despite that we have tried and tried to get a final DumaOS 3.3 firmware including a bunch of bugfixes to XR1000 customers, like we have done with the XR700, XR500 and XR450 beta firmwares which you can find on this forum.

Unfortunately, due to technical reasons its not as simple as just releasing a firmware for you to install otherwise we would have done so months ago. We require Netgear to provide us with a very specific firmware for this update, of which they have not had Netgear testing resources to put towards for months. Our software is ready and working, however the hardware waiting on Netgear.

As a side note, the XR series will continue to be supported with new cloud updates for Geo-Filter and DPI compatability, we are not abandoning the products, they just won't receive DumaOS4.

There Hi,
@Netduma Jack B

Thanks for the reply, though it left me feeling like you were aiming for sarcasm instead of solutions—something I didn’t quite expect from someone representing a company in a public forum. Let’s unpack a few things, shall we?

Just To Make Things Clear

Let’s practice some phonics together:

  • Netgear: That’s “Net-Gear,” as in the hardware company.
  • DumaOS: That’s “Dew-Mah-OS,” as in your software.

Now, do these sound like the same thing? No.I didn't think so either. If you think they do , just ask around and see what others say captain obvious.
But here’s the kicker: they are inextricably linked when it comes to the XR series, like peanut butter and jelly—except this sandwich has been sitting out for over a year.

So, when you clarify, “We’re not the same company as Netgear,” it’s a bit like David denying he knows Goliath after taking the slingshot to the head.

Question 2: The Blame Game

Your explanation boils down to:

  • DumaOS: “We’re ready to go, software’s done.”
  • Netgear: “Sorry, can’t find our testing team to rubber-stamp your work.”

I mean, really? Netgear, the world’s largest router vendor, can’t allocate resources for firmware testing? Sounds more like a power play than a resourcing issue. A year-long delay suggests something bigger—maybe a lesson in “who’s the boss” on the food chain? I’d love to hear what actually happened in those “collaborative” meetings. Maybe the sword-fighting contests ran long?

Meanwhile, XR users are caught in the crossfire, left with incomplete updates and vague promises. If the goal was to inspire confidence in your partnership, this situation has been a masterclass in how not to.

Question 3: The Abandonment Game

You say: “We’re not abandoning the XR series; it just won’t get DumaOS4.”
Translation: “We’ll keep the lights on but don’t expect renovations.”

That’s reassuring. Will DumaOS5 be coming, or should we brace ourselves for another round of waiting games and finger-pointing?

Final Thoughts
Your opening response was, let’s say, cheeky. I appreciate a bit of wit, but it landed more like condescension. So, I figured I’d return the favor.

That said, if my tone ruffled any feathers, let me extend an olive branch. My frustration comes from a place of being a loyal customer who expected better from a product labeled as "cutting edge."

Looking forward to your reply—preferably one that matches the professionalism your customers deserve.

What's really going on?

Thanks for Reading,
Hope were still friends
L2W

I believe Netduma is playing dirty since they are selling r2 and r3 to customers, while xr1000 is left to death.

@Netduma Fraser I know you have no control over but this is terrible, never buying anything from Netduma. 2years of broken router
