The ONT is a Calix 801G GigaPoint v2 - Which is standard for CityFibre installs.

https://support.aa.net.uk/CityFibre_ONT

It doesn't have a GUI or that, it's purely a modem for FTTP

R3 is the only router been used (PPPoE)

If it helps @Netduma Fraser this is exactly the same setup I have and R3 never manages to record true speed of approx 900 up and down. This is with the R3 speed test or a 3rd party test.

I have this ONT with my City Fibre install.

On a 500 Up and Down connected to the R3 and get full speeds.

Had a GB line before but hardly used it so went to a 500Mbs line.

I just set my speeds and made sure the CC is set correctly

I always keep SmartBoost on tho!

Expand

Could you disable Smartboost and check your speed & post your results?

The issue I'm having is with Smartboost disabled, it lowers my upload speeds.

Could you try the suggestion above and see if that changes?

Smartboost isn't saving any device/app settings, they all clear as soon as I leave the page

What settings are you making exactly and how, what device/web browser/app etc

Is ping optimizer working properly yet because every time I do test it comes back with 100% of my bandwidth?

Expand

You have to make sure it’s on “always” and not on Auto or Low Latency only. And make sure Speedtest bypass is disabled

The steady ping thing is frustrating and really needs to be fixed to not randomly re enable itself please!!!!!!

its so irritating to have it randomly on or remembering to manually disable it again every reboot.

if its disabled, it should stay disabled unless I tell it to turn back on.

with perfect bufferbloat all steady ping does is increase my ping with no benefit

Hi Fraser

Thanks again for your help - V.4 is connected  now and working fine. Have notice a slight drop on the download  speed 600 whereas V.23  would get 900. Upload speed is good.  apart from that my online gaming is awesome 👌

The assistance you've provided me on multiple occasions has been invaluable. Cheers

Regards

@Netduma Fraser if I Unplug power from wall, I noticed Steady ping goes back to enabled, congestion control goes back to default settings

Expand

That makes sense for Steady Ping at least, make your changes, reboot from the interface, this will act as a hard save. Then if you unplug again CC should retain the settings.

It's working better I'd say generally but depending on usage/time of day it may not need to throttle you.

You're very welcome, are you using PPPoE?

I have tried the new firmware and found it stops you watching Disney plus, Netflix and Apple TV. It loads them up to menus but when you try to watch anything it just buffers continuously and then comes up with an error. I tried turning off Smart Boost, and steady ping still same. I just installed .23 without reseting router and tried and all work again now.

Was anything else happening on the router/network at the time when this happens?

That's most likely the Adblocker causing it, if you disable it does it work then?

It seems like PPPoE is the issue, here is a speedtest with a Friztbox 7530 AX handling PPPoE & R3 DHCP.

Expand

Makes sense, we'll be working to boost the speeds with PPPoE where possible.

@Netduma FraserI am unable to set CC to 'Always On' and the 'Speed Test Bypass' section is unavailable when I have SmartBoost disabled (see screenshot)

That's expected, SmartBOOST needs to be enabled for those functions to work
