R1 DumaOS Briefly Delayed

Hi Duma Army,

We need to announce that the free upgrade of our new software, DumaOS, for the Netduma R1 will need to be briefly delayed due to unexpected requirement from our Legal Team. Our lawyers have advised that DumaOS on the R1 must be backwards compatible.

In other words, if you install DumaOS onto the R1 you should always have the option to reinstall the older R1 firmware if you prefer to go back. We had not designed the DumaOS integration with the R1 to allow for this as DumaOS is superior. But based on legal advice we now must redo the integration to allow for this. It should take, at absolute most, a few more weeks. Nothing more as we have everything else working.

We realise you have been waiting patiently for this upgrade and this last-minute delay is frustrating. Our entire development team is working flat out to get this last bit fixed as soon as possible as we really want you all on DumaOS.

For what it's worth, we're as frustrated as you are as we can't wait to start making lots of new R-Apps (features) for you all.

We will get this last piece done as soon as possible and then it will be full steam ahead in delivering an explosion of new DumaOS features for you all.

Thank you for your continued support.

The ND Team

Thanks for keeping us informed. It was looking so close and we were all getting excited, but last minute little surprises always adds a little fun to the mix. Eventhough DumaOS brings new goodies to the table, I also think having the backwards compatibility and being able to roll back to the current firmware will also be appreciated by end users.

Sorry I'm having a bad day.

Thanks for the update, roll on 2 more weeks.

What if I sign a disclaimer saying I wouldn't be interested in rolling back to the old/current version.

Thanks

No problem. We did actually ask legal this but they advised it's better to just have the backwards compatibility

Hahahahaha you are funny guys...

Just tell the truth to the people..

R1 will never get the upgrade..

They will force you to buy XR500

Other wise how will be profitable..

I stopped expecting something better than you months ago

I honestly can't wait to see the R-App features. More importantly, I can't wait to see when the software launches for the R1. This is disappointing to see the delay, but it's for the best!  :(

And what about unleashing the new firmware as a Gmaster update -like Apple and other companies get use to do since years - a sort of Last Beta to the public (without the possibility to downgrade), just 2/3 weeks before the final version in which Netduma Team are gonna implement all the missing features, and whoever update to DumaOs, going forward, wil be asked to install the new version with the back compatibility thing?

I CAN NO LONGER AWAIT!!! Hahah

I'm happy to update now and not roll back. why don't you release this version marked pre-release and not able to be downgraded and give people the choice to install it. I'll take it at my own risk.

Why am I not surprised?

Another in a long line of excuses to keep pushing the Netgear deal. At least excuses now involve the legal team, so there's that.

PS: I'll bet you a thousand bucks, that  when the DumaOS starts missing features that were promised, this is the line we'll get: "Can't be done guys, the backward compatibility our lawyers forced on us does not allow the R1 to get the latest features. Of course, if you want them, there's always Netgear!"

Have the decency to admit you pooled too many resources on the Netgear partnership, and that the R1 is now obsolete.

I agree

Also, what kind of company announces a version delay THE DAY BEFORE IT RELEASES?

Hopefully your PR guy isn't involved in development. Although that would explain a lot.
