DumaOS Update - Recent Progress

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I posted in another post (one that I made), as a response to the new update since I'm back to having the same problems I've had since forever. I gave up on CoD for a bit and came back, and of course, dealing with same issue as everyone. This is what I wrote in the other post, I hope you will like my idea. I hope I don't come off as a jerk, but I was hoping to come off as professional as possible to deal with the problem with the upcoming DumaOS

Look, I hope to God I'm not coming off as an a******, but this update's waiting time is taking way too long with no exact reason except for "oh, we're trying to perfect it, that's why it's not out yet". Look, I love you guys and the router to an extent, but to perfect this should NOT be taking up to 2 years of production. This update has been in effect, or as an idea to your company way before we knew about it and as far as I know, it was being made in production a little after the latest update came out, which was almost 2 years ago. To perfect something like this, has I think already been made by a couple of companies (dont remember exactly who, but apparently they're doing better than you guys with this kind of idea, but I still love you and am not leaving  :) ). The point I'm making, is that too many people are having the exact problem I'm having because we can't have what everyone else like A7 and others are getting. Everyone who owns a Duma of course isn't going to get the same results due to having different modems, connections, internet packages and cable and so on, but apparently, according to you guys, this update is supposed to fix THAT exact problem, which is why I've been so excited for two years for this release, but have been disappointed every time I get told that the release date is being extended. In my opinion, there should options to fix this problem of making everyone with my problem wait, and I think someone else has mentioned this before, but I will try to give my idea and use my words to explain it.

1. Fix a couple of the problems you guys are claiming to have at a quicker rate unless already doing so. Release a beta to everyone who owns the Duma so that we can all help test out to make this process go quicker. If a beta is released now, we can all keep the firmware, and every time you guys have a fix, update it until its perfected and make it one huge update.

2. You also said that with the release of the new DumaOS, it should be a lot easier to update firmware and software and to keep us posted a lot easier, correct? Well, if that's what DumaOS does, but is still not perfected, why can't we just say "screw the minor bugs" and just release it? You guys said yourselves that Duma OS decreases the amount of time for bugs to be fixed dramatically compared to what we have now. So why aren't we doing this? Why are we forced to wait another year (which I can only imagine that we will because you've done this before) just so that new customers can't come in and lose a few in the process?

I've seen people get rid of their Duma because of the amount of time it's taking to release this update, plus other companies are coming out with better ideas a lot faster, and surprisingly are near perfect compared to what we are getting here. I know people are going to tell me that they aren't leaving or aren't going to leave, but there are some that have, and that's not good. And the people who left are those who are suffering with the same problems as I am. I also feel that there are answers to these problems, but we aren't being given the right answer at all. I know that seems easier said than done, but there has to be a way to help us out in better ways if we're going to procrastinate with this update. I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, but I feel as if others might agree with me on this in a professional matter. I love you guys, but this whole thing could be resolved if you take my advice.

Either do a beta like iPhone's do where before the release of a new iOS, they update the beta frequently until it's perfected.

or

Release DumaOS NOW and just update frequently until perfected. it seems as if you guys are already near perfection, so what's the hold up? Does it really matter if there's a few minor bugs here and there that isn't going to heavily affect us? we're adults, I think we can handle a couple of issues here and there, but discuss it appropriately in the forums so that all Admins are informed and can resolve it.

i agree i feel like we in the u.s should be beta testing. i feel like the people in uk arent gonna have that many problems they are finding super low pings l less then 20 ms. its a consistent struggle trying to play now when you know your being punish for having solid internet ive checked everything ping is good packet loss is good. ive spent so much money on modems and routers and stuff to fix my problems im giving up man its not fun getting melted and its taking me 15 bullets to get a kill or dying by 5 bullets with reactive armor on. right now im a walking target i cant kill nobody and its annoying as hell when i kno its not me my monitor or my connection

OK so do you not think that the powers that be wouldn't test this stuff in the USA? Im sure that testing is going on worldwide and that many of the problems that are found are found are getting sorted asap.

When you look at the forum and some of the posts we have to deal with, can you imagine the grief the staff would get if the Beta was released to a majority?

A large proportion of people who kick up a storm simply have a setting error which is resolved by behaving like a normal human being.

And people ask the devs to let these people test stuff!!!!

Its in beta things go wrong and errors are found. The behaviour of many people on the forum would mean they would go into melt down.

The new software is going to be an entire new OS which is why it is taking time and guess what? Its free, people who are testing it are suffering for you're greater gain. Chill tabs all round.

I get your point, I think Kevo is a bit off on why i wrote that.

Kevo, I made that mistake, and it was stupid. Sadly, it's come to that point where we do have to spend that much money, but you can't blame the Devs and the Netduma for that, especially when I made that mistake and it fixed nothing. You can't blame Devs and Duma for that.

Bagsta, back to your point. You're absolutely right, the Devs have been working their asses off to fix these problems, no doubt about it. But I don't agree with part of your statements. The staff right now have more important things to deal with than 5 year olds or people who dont understand the Duma who are going to complain about a "setting error", or other irrelevant, childish complaints. I feel that the staff need to think of a different solution to this update coming out sooner, mostly due to the fact that there are a lot of other people who are having the same problems as I am, but everyone can't seem to get an answer to these problems, especially the mods and staff, which is kind of sad, but I understand the situation. Having an open beta worldwide for every user is probably one of the best ideas to try, IF the staff can ignore the cry babies and focus on the real problems that everyone would be having with the beta. If that doesn't work as an idea, try doing what Apple does with their iOS iPhone betas, where they open it up to people who sign up, but in this case for the Duma it would be for all, and just do minor updates every week or two according to the problems people are having during the open beta. They could do this until the full release of DumaOS. Those ideas by themselves, would've been so much better to try before the release of IW instead of all of them saying "whoops! looks like its gonna be another year guys! 2018! oh boy!". That whole thing of making us wait two years as it is was not a good idea, ESPECIALLY since it looks like this is gonna be a THIRD year that everyone now has to wait for. Again, I love everyone and I love how hard everyone including the staff have been working to make this update come sooner, but this idea that they have was never going to work, and should've been changed the day they found out that it was gonna take another year or two. I'm sorry, but that's a big marketing mistake, and a much better approach could've been taken. I'm not bashing anyone here or the staff, but I feel that they should have tried something a bit different.

I think everyone thinks otherwise.. LOL. I'm just saying, you've accomplished what every other Duma user including myself dreams of getting, and sadly we just can't fix our problem. I'm communicating with a couple others in another post to try and fix my problem again after many months of not playing CoD. I think what people misunderstand about you and your connection settings, is that they all think you're perfect at the game and that you can never lose, not true. No one can be perfect at CoD, but when you fix the connection where your hit detection and everything is on point, you're going to do a lot better. I know I'm good at CoD. I always hold a 2.00 or better on most of them, but it's also inconsistent due to connection and HD, and I know for a fact I could do better and am better. With the Duma, that is highly possible to accomplish. But when you have these problems, not so easy to deal with. So no, sorry to burst your bubble A7, but I don't think you're God like everyone else ;) I just feel that we should all be able to accomplish what you have, but sadly right now we can't. And that will be fixed soon, I hope.

Look I'm just going to give a quick response, I may not cover every point that has been made so far.

We should not have announced it so early or given a timeline for release - we've done that before and it didn't work then either.

We are a very small team and not all of that small team are developers. To create an entire operating system in this amount of time is quite an achievement.

I would love to hear the companies that you think are doing the same thing but better than us - I don't believe any company is doing exactly what we are with DumaOS but happy to be proved wrong.

Coming back to the small team, if we released it to everyone when we weren't at least 95% sure there was nothing major we would be inundated. The amount of time spent just trying to separate the user errors from the actual errors would be insane. Plus the inevitable this is too buggy comments why didn't you wait etc..

There is no win win here at the moment. Please be patient until I can get Luke/Iain to provide more information.

Also assuming it's not going to be out until next year when it's only half way through the existing one is a big assumption

I wasn't sure where we were at with this update. I'm guessing we aren't quite there yet, making my assumption or idea possibly false and would cause a lot more damage than fix. I thought that we were very close to being done, meaning that my idea might've worked.

Back to what I said about the other companies. Again, not bashing you guys, and I'm not stating that they copied your idea, but what I am saying is that they've come up with a similar solution to this fix we are all suffering from in a faster time. It's great, but like you and other Devs have said could be possible, it's probably not exactly perfected with the other companies, especially with the fact that no one knows how to beat lag like you guys :) . The only point I'm making is that I thought that maybe there was a solution to speed the process up. I didn't give out the solution or idea to bash you or say you guys are doing terrible, because that's not the case at all. I just thought that for everyone else's sake, that maybe there was another way to approach this, but I see now that I don't think there really is another way to do that unless we take the approach that we are already using to get DumaOS up and running. I wish people would read our statuses first before making it look like we're attacking everyone, because we're not, and that's not what I intended. I just thought maybe a different approach would be a good idea. That's all.

But I'm glad to hear that you guys are making such great progress with this, and I hope to see more results with this in the next couple of weeks. Maybe we can even have this up and running before WW2 Beta, and if not, Maybe before WW2 comes out. :)

The Duma team is in a no win situation IMO,if they release an upgrade that doesn't work and crashes everyone's network and this can and does happen when testing new FW with routers or new routers in general. It's easy to for people to say...release it and I'll take my chances but when it actually does happen and you have no internet, not just you but your whole household.Honestly how happy are you and the rest of your family gonna be if this were to happen on a daily basis ?

It would only be a matter of time before you were forced to take the Duma out of your setup, just so you could use your home network.

And if they don't release the new FW they are basically bashed, berated and treated like shit because they refuse to release a product that isn't ready for the masses. To me it seems like we're always complaining (myself included) about devs releasing games for example before they are ready.Isn't it the same thing, either it's ready to be released or it isn't, you can't really pick and choose what needs to be complete before you release it, all things should be and the DumaOS is no exception.

They are in a bad situation and there is no making everyone happy, so they are doing the right thing and making sure the new FW is stable before they release it to everyone. If you really think about it, it's just common sense. We all want the new FW but there is nothing wrong with the old firmware's it's more of a I want the new stuff, which we all do and I'm sure when we get it we'll be happy they waited.

I love how they are working on it day and night instead of fixing the current problems but yet can't actually update us with progress. That's absurd.

Are you having issues with the current firmware ?

If so make a post in the support forum to get help but stop whining like a 2 year old.All your posts are negative and condescending, they're working as fast as they can but stop with all the "entitled" BS,they don't have to give us any upgrades but they do, they could charge for the new OS but they don't.

For some reason some (not all) people on here act like Duma owes them something, but I don't know where the false sense of entitlement comes from.

It's ok to be less negative, it's better for everyone. We all want the new FW but we'll get it when it's released and that isn't our choice on the date when that's gonna happen.

I have, it won't be fixed under current software limitations. I am not entitled to anything except good customer service. It's been almost a year since this update was announced

They won't give an exact date as you've seen all the backlash from the current situation regarding it's release.

But from the updates on the update lol it looks like it's moving along nicely at this point... :)

That's good news for everyone, nice find... :D

Also assuming it's not going to be out until next year when it's only half way through the existing one is a big assumption

Not really.

  • Mid December - Early closed beta: this will be just be a handful of users because most people would not be willing to use this software in this state because it will be a downgrade from your current versions
  • Mid January - Coal Mine beta: a much more developed version of the OS which, like with previous upgrades, will be available to all the Canaries in the coal mine to test
  • Mid February - Open beta: a public beta which you can all apply to be a part of. This version will have all the major new features ready for testing (including anti-jitter, anti-spike and much much more that we can't reveal yet!)
  • Full Launch: sometime after the Open Beta, dependent on feedback

Based on previous announcements and track record it's not a big assumption, it has been delayed before it will likely be delayed again. It's odd though they make new announcement posts and string people along by leaving it open for people to post in instead of just making a new one locking it and sticking it to the top so it's the most recent news from the development team. It's okay to say you are behind or even really far behind schedule, but posting things like "All will make sense over the next month or so. Believe me its awesome! & I hope you'll agree worth the wait" and "Exciting times!" isn't something a developer should be saying prior to an unknown release of a piece of software nor should they be said when nothing is shown to back it up as it leaves it up to the reader's imagination to run with it and that isn't wise. Whether it is intentional hype or unintentional it is setting yourself up for negative feedback and in some ways disappointment because there is no way you'll get all the bugs. I mean the 1.03.6 version still has bugs in it but people are still using it.

What we are experiencing is the forum members self inflicted wounds. The dev team has been pushed into silence because members cant handle an open dialogue without feeling entitled to something that will be given away for free. The dev team owes no one anything regardless of any estimated dates being released. This isn't a paid service, we are entitled to nothing. Not even information. Its very naive to think early dates are hard dates in this industry.

I have to congratulate all the members that are pushing them into silence.
