NEW XR500 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.535
Netduma Fraser replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Unfortunately can't provide that information even if I had it, NG sorted the hardware so we didn't have any input, like you said the R7800 is similar so perhaps that part which I'm sure can be found cheaper might be an option, no idea if it would work though honestly, no one has ever gone to that much trouble to repair one as far as I'm aware or if they have they've never mentioned it -
NEW XR500 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.535
Netduma Fraser replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
That does sound in brick teritory, no the USB port has no functional benefit in this situation, TFTP will be your only hope here, don't give up with it, the timing for it is tricky and can take a few attempts -
Are you using H.264 or HEVC? Do you have Enforce streaming service bitrate limits enabled? You mentioned you're now using Auto for Congestion Control but what percentages are the download/upload set to? When streaming, is Traffic Prioritization actually triggerring? I still think switching to the DMZ option may help

Okay great so something with their IPv6 implementation the R3 doesn't like, I believe we're making some improvements in this area so it may not need to be a permanent solution. Does the gen1 router have any port forwarding settings or a DMZ? The R3 doesn't have a bridge mode anyway so that wouldn't be possible. If you want to have IPv6 & an Open NAT and the gen1 doesn't have port forwarding/DMZ then yes you'd need to get a gen 2 at least. I would say though that in both cases, IPv6 & Open NAT you're not really going to see much benefit to your gaming experience. NAT determines who you're able to connect to, as the game is dedicated server based this isn't an issue. If you play with people then as long as they have an Open NAT you won't have any issues connecting to them. IPv6 is useful because NAT isn't a concern any more so if you can get an Open NAT bypassing the gen1 then really that's the best option. This is what Xbox says about the benefits of IPv6: "Internet Protocol version 6 is the most current network protocol, offering several improvements over IPv4. Most important, IPv6 expands the number of possible IP addresses (the unique numbers that represent every device on the internet). And—most useful for Xbox—the expansion removes the need for Network Address Translation (NAT), which can interfere with multiplayer gaming and chat over IPv4 networks." If I were you I'd just do dish > R3, you'll get an Open NAT so you're getting the benefits of what either would offer you and you don't need to use an extra router or pay for another.

Unplug it from your modem & power for 10 minutes, reconnect the power but not the modem, wait 4 minutes, then attempt access via a wired PC and see if you can access

Halo Infinite Geo Filter on the NETDUMA R3 with DUMA OS 4
Netduma Fraser replied to Tru ELiTE's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Can you provide a screenshot of the Geo-Filter page showing what you see when you get a game outside your radius please? No the heatmap doesn't affect the Geo-Filter Your video isn't loading, I'd suggest making a new topic for your issue, if you could also include a screenshot of what you see on the Geo-Filter in that topic please -
Netduma R2 connection constantly shutting off
Netduma Fraser replied to guymetal's topic in Netduma R2 Support
I think it could be this Mac: 192.168.77.119 e6:5a:7c:bb:3f:11 Mac If you disconnect that from the router for a day does it appear to be more stable? -
No specific recommendations other than to fine tune Congestion Control for your network, utilize Traffic Prioritization and use the Geo-Filter to force the closest servers to you. If the servers play badly then force servers slightly further away even if the ping is a little higher as the server may be under less load and actually play better.

NEW R3 FIRMWARE - DumaOS 4.0.540
Netduma Fraser replied to Netduma Alex's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Try the Early Access firmware: https://forum.netduma.com/topic/58424-new-r3-firmware-dumaos-40645/ We've not ever tested mesh and therefore can't say it will definitely work but in theory it should, like it says on that article "Mesh extenders strengthen your home network by capturing the Wi-Fi signal from your router and sharing it in hard-to-reach spots." so it should work with any WiFi signal regardless of the router it comes from unless they have specifically locked it down. Do you have another router to test it with perhaps to see if you have the same problem? -
Just an educated guess really, it's likely we'll never truly know! No worries, we are aware there are a lot of mislocated servers there so we are in the process of correcting them
-
True, I imagine the easier thing to work with is avg game population needs X servers rather than also calculating avg skill bracket population + avg skill bracket population active at one time needs X servers. Given the frequency you're running into the same players there can't be a big enough population in your bracket. They could well do to ensure top connection quality that but I've never heard of it. If you send us the IDs of the incorrect locations we can get them corrected.

Netduma R2 Keeps Factory Resetting on its Own
Netduma Fraser replied to schmizzbeats's topic in Netduma R2 Support
Fair enough, I appreciate the update regardless, I'll close the topic then -
Okay great thanks, you said you don't use their router but do you have the router so you could test dish > starlink router > R3 to see if you get IPv6 that way?
-
Yeah totally makes sense and the logic is sound. I suspect as with most things money dictates and having servers being underutilized like that wouldn't make financial sense. There will be lots of servers clustered in the same location, if you have a look at the ID that will change between servers so you can start to notice it that way.

Is there a device you're noticing it on the most? From the logs it appears as though 1 device may be causing it but I can't identify it -
NEW XR500 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.535
Netduma Fraser replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
NG have marked it end of service, although their main list doesn't show it the actual page for it does: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/xr500/ so main updates have stopped including security updates, there may be some bug fix updates from us in future but nothing certain because of this. The security updates you mentioned are already within this update, I'm quite sure I checked that not too long ago. When a security vulnerability is spoken about is usually much later after it has been fixed. I totally understand your frustrations, especially if that's one of the main features you're using it for. Absolutely no SSH access at all. We can't provide any commands to use with telnet unfortunately. Not that I'm aware of, it would be purely a NG feature so I couldn't even tell you why that was removed. -
Can’t seem to use my ROG Alley with EE Net Duma
Netduma Fraser replied to Redflame's topic in Community Discussion
Not bad thanks, hope you did too! They've gone home now but I'll leave them a message so they can pick it up tomorrow and let me know, then I'll let you know -
Absolutely fine to discuss! Just to throw my 2cents in, I very much doubt if they have allocated servers that never change and solely serve a certain skill bracket. I suspect it's just because those people are in the same bracket that you see them frequently
-
Yes that's right, exactly as above
-
I would suggest first connecting a PC direct to the dish and seeing whether you can get an IPv6 address that way

NEW XR500 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.535
Netduma Fraser replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
That's fair enough! Use a mac vendor lookup site to search for the MAC addresses of the devices you're unsure about, they'll give you the manufacturer and you may be able to work them out from there. It's very likely if you have a strong WiFi password that it is devices on your network, happens a lot with smart devices. It's not always a factory reset to fix but with some specific issues that is the only fix unfortunately for the moment. The comparison really is the XR1000 has better hardware overall and better WiFi but doesn't have as new firmware as you've seen it doesn't have HybridVPN. The 500 has the more up to date software and has been around for the longest so I would say is generally the most stable out of the XR range but the WiFi/hardware isn't as good as the 1000. Yes the XR500 does have similar architecture/specs to the R7800. -

What settings are changed from their defaults? Do you have an approximate time it happened as depending on when it could be a few things based on the logs -

Not as far as I'm aware no. The backup isn't readable to anything other than the router so you will see nonsense essentially if you open it on your PC. Telnet isn't officially supported as a way to change router settings so I couldn't advise on that, I also believe it's only available on very old firmware versions which could be part of the problem. If you make a backup when you have an issue then restoring the backup after a factory reset can also restore the issue so in my opinion it's essential to make sure after a fresh reset and making your changes you then make a backup so it should be free from any issues should you need to use it in future. Depending on what you're doing though the DumaOS features don't take too long to setup again. If you do go to a different software just be warned that you're unlikely to be able to come back to DumaOS.
