According your picture you had 1 spike. So its ok. :) It happends. You can try your connection by opening CMD and type "ping 8.8.8.8 -t" then enter.

open command prompt and type ping -t followed by 8.8.8.8. that will keep pinging until you press ctrl key and c which will then stop the pinging and display your results.

Hi Joe - yup, that's a spike - they'll happen no matter what server you connect to. The routers job is to minimise them and get you the lowest ping. If you encounter tonnes of spikes, it's almost certainly upstream - meaning a Modem, equipment or line issue. It doesn't seem you're getting them though looking at your screenshots - you've got a nice low and steady ping :)

yeah but that low ping doesnt help me at all, what pretty weird. i cant play any cod on core only hardcore modes. :(. i didnt try battlefield with the duma os but dont want to extra buy it to test the connection lol

That spike you see, though being pretty intense is not something that is effecting your game play, as you can clearly see it comes and goes. Now one thing that may be considered is the idea of a low ping in a highly lag compensated game. By forcing a "GREAT" connection you are essentially suffering from the games net code working against you. As i've explained before, certain games try to balance out connections and place them on fair ground, when you geofilter in some games, your'e essentially rebelling against what the game is trying to do, end result being more negative than positive. Some games are able to match players fairly without needing the netduma, then again some games can't. Thats why geofilter is more of a tool than a end all solution. My suggestion is to try it with geo off, or perhaps another dedicated server somewhere else, or widen your radius alot more. I commented a few days back about this issue. In a game like BO3 where best connections win usually, getting a dedi is a huge importance, but in a game like ghosts where the game matches you with the best possible type of connection usually it can sometimes hinder your experience because youre blocking out people who might be a best option. In that case It was better for me to widen up the radius so I still get a USA host but not necessarially the "best host" in that radius. If that host is already a really good player in a host advantage game then all im gonna do is get melted in every gunfight. point being, sometimes geo helps and sometimes it hurts, but you have to figure out what it is that works best for you. If I remember correctly that bo4 servers raised the tick rate, this means that connections that were solid suffered more because the otherwise laggier players benefit from increased level of communication between client and server, meaning a bad connection could now smash you where as before ping was absolutely king, and a stable line/low ping was more advantageous. I know that when they bumped the tick rate up I had way more issues killing people than before.

If this seems wrong please do correct me lol. But as far as I have been able to hear from people, it seems true.

thanks for all the info bro and for your time. but these lag spikes indeed effect my gameplay. because often i shoot at people but dont even have hit registration. and on blops 3 i had the same issues. since i changed from cagle to dsl internet i lowered my ping from 35 to 20 to the german server but still no improvement on core modes. thats why i only play hardcore modes what is a shame. i want to benefit from buying a game and have the ability to play all modes on core.

you are correct, everyone gets the odd spike, it would have to be consistent in order to be detrimental to gaming.

Hi Joe

How often are you getting the spikes?

The reason I ask is that my line is very flat when doing a ping plotter test.but you may fined the same as me is that the spikes happen just after you die in game on bo4?

Try to keep an eye out for this as I'am sure it's just info being sent to the server, but should not effect game play to badly

What is your Qos like? I get spikes from my ISP to the first hop sometimes, but it doesn't generally affect my gameplay enough since it comes and goes so fast it may not have even affected my gaming packets anyways, but maybe it would be better if it didn't happen. I can still play most games far much better than when I had DSL. You could run ping plotter to see what your line is like, and if its stable then there really isn't anything you can do, its just a bad server, maybe try using player hosts instead. I am sure you are aware that bo4 has given many people a hard time anyways, you can see that from posts all over the place. Heck a youtuber I usually watch (Thelegendofthunder) complains about it all the time. Do check your line though and let us know. As far as ping to a server, 35 or 20 doesn't matter. You could do better on a ping that's 35 ms and stable than a line that's 20 and isn't. So run ping plotter program and let us know what you get for results.

HI guys,

can you please explain me this? I connected my PS4 via Wifi with the R1 and just wanted to test how it would work out. My CC sliders were on 70/70 and I had 18down and 4up. Watch this gameplay: I played 3 matches of core kill confirmed and won all of them with 40+ kills. And every bullet was connecting. WTF????

Could possibly indicate that the ethernet cables you're using need replacing

Hello Fraser,

sorry bro, I dont believe that because I have bought new high quality ethernet cables in fall 2018 recommended by big dog and jack. I dont think its the cables. I rather think that the roumor is true that high ping players get benefited in this game.

There are a few cases to argue for and against that rumour. It could well be true - based on what I've seen on this forum and my own experiences, I reckon the ideal ping is around 20-30 in most games. It's a kinda' mid-point between the lowest and highest in the server on average, so the lag comp could well treat you better.

Hey @JOE1305 I feel ya! I literally laughed out loud at work! I replaced my cables and it didn't do anything. I might have to try this WIFI theory because I keep hearing the same thing about gaming on wifi. I honestly can't imagine playing without an ethernet cord, but this gameplay is convincing. Also, BO4 is trash with coding, and I hope the next COD is better cause I totally had a hard time playing this. So hard I had to go back to WW2 and IW!

bro i played yesterday again with a friend of mine. first on ethernet cable it was lagging so hard on hardcore modes that i changed to wifi again. and it was super smooth to play man. i dont get it. rarely lag on wifi. and it looks like i see people first in gun fights. on cable like they see me a second before. its crazy man. this game is so broken. this weekend im gonna play on wifi only. dropped a lotta 50+ gameplays on hardcore yesterday. almost got my second nuke, got killed with a specialist of course 5 off. hahahhaha

There's going to come a day where WiFi will be just as good as Ethernet, with a just a couple milliseconds off and cut-through signals. But that day is not anytime soon. WiFi has come a long way, but ethernet today is still absolute. But hey, maybe something in COD game engine to aid those on WiFi. Good to hear you're enjoying yourself. 😀
