R1 DumaOS Briefly Delayed

Netduma Luke

Recommended Posts

"Any word on DumaOS for R1 users yet?"

"No but we are working hard to get it done asap for you guys."

A backward feature need one week or less..

Its not so complicated..

Backward compatibility is a problem that you could resolved in three ways , one of this way could be done in 3/4 hours of work..

I will made a post where i will explaine that way..

It s so simple..

For this reason i said that DumaOs haven t that problem..

Awful. Just awful.

I understand the frustration and that is why I have not interacted in the thread letting people blow off steam, I have seen people posts about crying, this is incorrect voicing disappointment is not crying. I wish it had been launched already with more gamers using DumaOS as I am sure Iain and the team do too.

Has licensing to Netgear scuppered earlier plans for a 2017 release I am sure it has, I think that any business would be crazy to turn an offer from one of the biggest router company's in the world.

Has the above upset users of course and Iain will be gutted it has, he is now under pressure twice as much as he used to be, probably more and is fighting to get the DumaOS out for everyone.

I may buy a XR500 soon but looking at the specs of the R1 firmware and the Netgear firmware the R1 does so much more at the moment. I am sure when Iain releases it for the R1 he will then have time to write new RApp's and then it will catch up and then super seed the R1 but for now for me the R1 fw is where its at.

All of the above are my thought's and not of Netduma as I am just a gamer and help out when I or if I can.

Have some people taken it a bit far, yes but only because they have been wound up by other member's to a point where they are getting even more annoyed.

If there has been any behavior from mod's or members that is deemed inappropriate please use the report process so it can me monitored and dealt with accordingly.

Very diplomatic, Z.

But surely these levels of snowflakery would be better dealt with via the Duma furnace? I assume the old girl still fires?

Snowflakes, be safe. Be warm. Begone.

This has been longest wait for update in history of man. Not weeks or months... Years have gone by. I've given up.

Pro, no offence intended...
but you're going to struggle to stay in my top ten 'best of the rest' list with this kind of attitude.

I'm just amazed how people who have been waiting years and are complaining about waiting this long are considered acting unreasonable by a few overrated and over indulging people who post in these forums.

^Right?^

The absurdity of the whole situation is unreal. It's absurd that I'm still following this, but my interest is peaked by the level of egregious effort it takes to blow it so bad. It's been such a long time at this point. You could string people along for way longer with much less backlash if they (Netduma Staff) just posted here to say almost anything at this point.

The reality is, I don't think they made any bad decisions besides how they've failed to communicate to customers what's going on. Things change and deals happen, and for fun, here's how I imagine it all going down....

'Look at us developing DumaOS for the R1, this is gonna be sick boys!, Wait, whats this?.... Holy crap!... NETGEAR just made us an offer on our software boys!, heck yeah!, we've finally MADE IT boys!...Wait,....whats this in the fine print,... they want us to sign a ND agreement and we have to switch to developing only for their hardware, hm.....well whatever, we can finish the R1 version right after we are done with the Netgear version! Shouldn't take very long, we banged out the last one in a couple of weeks...'

Months later

'Man these Netgear guys are sticky about bugs and testing. This is taking forever....'

Months later

'Hey guys, it's strange but the guys who bought the R1 are starting to get aggressive in the forums, what should we do?... Tell em it's coming...'

Months later

'Finally we got Duma OS on a real powerful router! It works great boys!, look at all the exposure we have now! We've made it! We deserve champagne, lets toast!...'

A week later

'Hey boys, we really gotta get working on DumaOS for the R1, for some reason those boys are chapped.....Ok, ok, lets look at this,.. what do we have here,... WOW, this version is really incomplete, look at all the stuff we have to do to make it as polished as the version we made for Netgear,..bugs,bugs,bugs,.. Ok tell em it will take a month, tell em April 14th.

April 13th

'Oh man, bugs, bugs, bugs, "Software development is hard" (actual quote from Twitter), what should we say to them?...nothing, I don't know how long this is gonna take us to sort out and Netgear just called and they want more features working by next week....'

end...

In reality I have no clue if it's true or not because Netduma hasn't told me any different, I'm just left here to attempt to make sense of it on my own. I get why they did what they did, I'd have made the exact same business decisions, if I were in their shoes. If they would have just kept early adopters in the loop then I'd be that early adopter who is happy to support a small company trying to make it big and I'd even be willing to wait patiently on the sidelines while the boy make it big, but they can't even show me the respect of telling me the truth.

Ok, now cue Alex to Netduma's defense, because Netdumas not.

Ding ding! We have a winner here! Lol. I think that is exactly how it went down. BTW, Alex is a Netduma cheerleader around here, rah rah, rah he goes!

It was 17th April but nevermind. The essence of what you saying is pretty clear even if its just a guess. And I pretty much agree sadly.

I didn't even bother looking it up, not that it matters much. What's a couple of days after year or more? When was the original DumaOS announcement anyways? I can't even remember anymore, I know last year I had the distinct impression I'd see it before Christmas. Maybe this Christmas after all?, better late than never. I almost considered the XR500, but at this point it's a matter of principal.

NM- I found it, July 19th 2016.

Original Announcement

Also, Check out the hashtag #RouterRevolution

Boy was I wrong, I though they said Fall 2017, it was Fall 2016.

In all seriousness, and without trying to pick a fight, isn't it reasonable to expect some sort of update? At least a measly, "We ran into unforeseen technical difficulties'?

The more I look over Netdumas twitter page the more I think that update about something big wasn't for the R1 at all.

The only mention of the R1 seems to be people asking when is it going to be ready.

They sure seem to talk about the XR500 and how great it is.

Not so much about the R1. Maybe the silence is a hint.

I love conspiracy theories! I agree the silence is deafening,

Conspiracy theory 1 maybe the Netgear hierarchy told Netduma "You can't give the OS for free when our customers have to pay for it"

Conspiracy theory 2 "Netgear "If you delay the roll out of the OS, the Duma customers will get pissed of with waiting and buy the XR 500 and we will give you a cut of the sales".

Conspiracy theory 3. Duma "We can't the OS to work on the Duma, backwards compatibility is not going to work. Blame the lawyers! :)

I am thinking that, quote from Hamlet "There's something wrong in the state of Denmark" lots of conspiracies in Hamlet! :)

I see only two possibilities:

1) Netduma signed a Non-Compete clause which has still not expired. April of this year would've been 3 months from the release of the XR500. So maybe they have a 6 month Non-Compete clause.

2) The R1 is not powerful enough to run the current DumaOS. Or there's some other technical issue that they are having problems with.

I don't think Netduma cares whether customers buy the R1 or the XR500. They are getting paid in both cases.

Either way, I don't see Netduma telling us what happened. Eventually you will see a post that says; Here's DumaOS for the R1

or one that says; Sorry, No DumaOS for the R1.

Obviously there are a lot of disappointed people on this forum regarding the delay of DumaOS.  I was disappointed to, but I understand and support the reasons why.

I think we have to bear in mind that this update is very important.  A roll back is required for good reasons.  The main one giving people the opportunity to revert back to the older version, but also in case the new DumaOS has a problem.

Let me explain, if DumaOS had been released and we downloaded it and there was a problem, it could have caused a lot of issues for everyone possibly bricking the R1s and leaving us with just our routers.

It is frustrating for us, but I believe this is all for the best.  We will get the update eventually and all the wonderful things to come with it.  I am looking forward to it and checking back daily for the news as I am sure most of us are.  Lets be positive rather than negative, these guys are working hard to get it out.  We're going to get a great update that will make a massive difference to our gaming, it's got to be worth the wait.

So nice to see the forum mods so active in this thread when it comes to censoring peoples post that have less than a kind word about this topic.

Not only that , Im happy that the reasons why have been explained as well. Too bad the topic at hand hasn't been handled as such.
