Chaiyoabc got a reaction from Juju31 in No Longer Caught in the Rabbit Hole – My Best Settings for FPS Games
Hey Netduma fellows,
Hope you’re all having a great day! I wanted to share the best settings I’ve found for improving my online gaming experience. Now, I’m not sure if the Netduma team will be happy about this because, honestly, none of these settings are related to the Netduma router.
I’ve been using Netduma routers for over five years, starting with the R1 model. Sometimes, they performed great; other times, not so much. Over time, I began to question whether using QoS alone was the best approach—until I was introduced to SQM (Smart Queue Management).
Some of you might already be familiar with SQM, CAKE, and FQ_CoDel, but let me tell you—SQM is an absolute game-changer when running on high-performance router hardware with OpenWRT.
My Solution for Consistent Performance
The key to getting good, consistent results (which has helped me maintain a 3+ K/D ratio in every FPS game) was:
1. Using a high-performance router that supports OpenWRT
2. Enabling CAKE as the QoS algorithm
Since CAKE requires significant CPU power, I chose the Flint 2 router, which can efficiently shape over 500 Mbps of traffic while running CAKE.
The Best Part? Set It and Forget It
The only tuning required is adjusting overhead and MPU (Minimum Packet Unit) settings. Other than that, once set up, it just works.
That’s all I wanted to share. Hope this helps someone out there struggling with network consistency!

Thanks to @Chaiyoabc for all the explanations and for pointing us in the right direction.
I think I've found the right PMU.

It's Italian for information! (Latin "Roman" language like Spanish and French and others)
He uses the browser translator like most non-English speakers...
Can you do the same to answer him?
---Most countries in Central and South America speak Spanish except Brazil which speaks Portuguese---
Italy is in Europe

I have been using CST for very long time. But there was no option to just saturate ONLY upload speed. so... I had to do it in classic way. streaming

Connection Method: main router and dhcp to netduma
my main router is Asus TUF ax5400 (it doesnt matter. Can be any router) but I set MTU to 1452 (good for XDefiant but not so good with cod mw3. First half of my video was with mtu 1452. I later changed it to mtu 1492 when things get worse
my netduma is pretty standard. But to max out QOS potential, I set speed from 1000/1000 to 200/200. Qos worked better in this speed.
Upnp on
Auto MTU
use cod profile to prioritize.
but what gives was the fact that I had to do a live streaming to saturate connection a bit. By streaming qos worked much better than quiet network
I tried either no QOS with quiet network environment (literally no device at all) or qos with streaming environment.
It seemed qos method was better

You had it all wrong my friend. I watched your Youtube video and all I facepalmed the whole vid
you gotta understand that Netduma geo-filter is to block high ping servers and force you within good ping server. It cant control isp route whatsoever.
all to do to fix that is using vpn. Exitlag provides you better route so that was why U had good ping
for now best thing to do is wait until hybrid VPN is working and you can buy any vpn that support openvpn with config file
and another best thing to do now is to contact your isp and tell them you have bad ping to mumbai server. If you can get mumbai server ip that would be even better.
last thing to do is just change isp . I think you should ask in Indian community which isp probide the best ping to mumbai Fifa server
good luck from Thai fellow.

Chaiyoabc got a reaction from TrayDay in One thing worths mentioning to make things consistent
It’s not the QOS. it’s not all fancy setting. But it is very basic things for a good start.
it is the WAN IP address!
I have been noticing a lot late when I do well, literally get average 5+ KD in mw3 for last 10 games. It is because I randomly get a good set of IP from my ISP.
I know you guys all have qos setup, port priorities and what not. But one thing I would like to remind you is to check your own IP address when you do well in online games. Log it. Jod it in a paper. Because that IP will not last (unless you pay extra for fixed IP) forever. And when you feel that you are behind enemies, shoot first die first, even your router setting is the same. Take a look at your ip and see if it changes. You will notice the pattern and know what sets of ip is good for you
in my case, my ISP, AIS have two sets of ip.
it starts with 182.219.xx.xx this is good io for gaming
while bad ip for my ISP often start with 58.136.xx.xx
how to change IP? Easy. Reboot your router
once you get good ip, log it and don’t restart your router.
Good luck finding patterns!

I have found some workaround for smart boost not tracking packets correctly.
If your network is not too congested. Just unstar all those activity, including your gaming activity.
now you will see blank table
now if you check at ‘stats for nerd’ menu on the too right (little three dots), you should see the table. In generally, if everything is right, cod packet should be under either ‘manual prioritization’ or ‘auto allocation’ But problem is sometimes smartqos is buggy so you will need to manual do it as following
1. unstar all default activities. Make queue blank
2. Normally add your ports by hitting ‘add reservation’ it is inside manage profile button.
3. pick your console/ targeted device Hit next
4. switch to ports tab
5. manually enter source ports and destination ports. If you dont know, just put 1-65535 in both
6 give it 20mbps reservation and click Finish.
all done

Thanks, I have never tried prioritizing 1-65535 tcp
will try it!
One more thing to add. If you feel behind enemy or lag/delay in hit detection.
try reboot isp and ndm routers
i think it helped alot!!
