Hi All,

Was wandering if there will ever be a software update to include dhcp option 60 & 61.

I use Sky fibre unlimited, brought the xr500 and two different modems (Netgear DM200 & Draytek Vigor 130), neither will work due to the lacking of being able to send option 60 & 61 from the router.

Now I am buggered, I dont wan’t to add more layers of devices to get this working.

Thanks

it is not the modems you bought, or the XR500. It is down to the fact that sky do not want you to use any other equipment other than their substandard piece of crap they send you. You need to run wireshark and determine which is your username and password for your sky broadband login. There are youtube videos on how to do this............I personally would switch from them or any other ISP that handcuffs and shackles you to use their equipment.

Hi BIG__DOG,

Thanks for replying, I already have the credentials for my router, I can establish the connection direct in the Netgear Dm200 Modem Router so I know this is fine, its the XR500 not sending the credentials in the right format from my understanding, aka the credentials are not just a username and password, option 60 & 61 are actually in the dhcp packet and relate to client-identifier and vendor-id informations.

I have stuck with Sky purely because I have had a good service with them over the years, but since having VDSL, it has become extremely hard to get a decent all in one device (Modem/Router/Wireless) to match the internet connection so I bit the bullet and tried a modem and wireless router and because of this limitation I now have a extremely pricey AP lol

Cheers,

I am not fully converse with the handshake protocol that is needed by sky and none isp hardware. I highly recommend talktalk which require no pppoe handshaking of any kind and allow you to use your own equipment or even BT (but they are over priced) but who also let you use your own equipment. They however require you to have a pppoe login but the username is universal as it is linked to your phone number and the password is blank. There will be someone on here that uses their own equipment with sky but most users would avoid them like the plague that I have spoken to.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I've sent you a PM with a firmware to upgrade to, you should see option 61 in Internet Setup.

Cheers for the welcome Fraser!

Thanks for the link also, I’ll give it a go tonight and see how it goes (if I can get downtime permission by my girlfriend lol)

Will post my findings after :)

Since when did this become available, I had to stay with BT due to no DHCP 60 and 61 on netgear....  thanks

Hey sharpz44,

Not sure how long its been available but if it's available then good news! :)

I am out of contract with Sky so could always just change providers but I do like the service I get from Sky.

I have upgraded to the new OS (assume its a beta!) but can't see the option currently so waiting on feedback to make sure I am not being stupid/looking in the wrong place, I forgot that I am out for the evening so won't get to do much tinkering tonight, will play with it more tomorrow during the day though.

Cheers,

It's a pre release of the next firmware so not publicly available yet.

Just upgraded to the same version on my home router, its under the mac, scroll down further if possible. If it's not there then you didnt upgrade properly it looks like

Thanks Fraser,

Hmm I can’t believe me hitting the upload to upgrade the firmware could go so wrong!

I’ll try it again when I get home if not too late otherwise tomorrow, if you look at my picture the scroll looks like there is more but it wasnt going down further.

Hey All,

I was being a moron, I left 'Does your Internet connection require a login?' with 'yes' so it didn't show the DHCP 61 option, fail dot com!  Once I changed it to 'no' I saw the DHCP 61 option at the bottom.

Well I have got it working! Woo Hoo!!!! :D I'll get round to tweaking it properly in the morning.

One thing to note is that I changed the mode on the Draytek Vigor 130 modem to MPoA because before I did that it picked up the IP of the modem and that was it, no internet access was possible.

So for the option 61 input you put the username@skydsl|password similar to the Juniper SRX I played around with recently.

Great to hear that! This has been a suggestion before so we may implement it in future

Morning Fraser,

Cheers for the info!

Do you guys have a roadmap of what is being worked on/looked at or anything?

I am a nosey guy  :P

Will the dhcp option 61 be available when r1 users get duma os upgrade?

The whole settings section on the XR500 is NETGEAR's, on the R1 it is our own. I'll need to check with Fraser as I'm not sure if this will be included.
