My ping is always in the 20-30ms range but it feels like I'm playing 200ms+, bad hit detection, extra recoil on guns, taking damage from people the moment they appear on my screen etc. It's become worse since this last patch, probably as bad as it was at launch for me. Nothing seems to be working for me and I just have to wait around until they do their next background network tweak and hope that it improves my connection for a change..

It doesn't really matter as it's just the protocol to connect to the VPN tunnel. UDP may be beneficial though as it will keep resending packets if needed. Yes it should be greyed out completely, that is the correct way for it to be added to be applied to the VPN.

    Key word: Feel Right
Don’t go based off feeling. Unless your always playing the same skill level player, it will always feel off.
Ex: higher skilled players will take advantage of the little things. Like sliding to mess up your aim assist which you can’t react to due to the AA bubble.
    It’s the little things.
Tracert won’t tell you everything. Ex: COD can route your traffic through a proxy and you don’t know how much bandwidth that proxy is pushing or the latency between the proxy and the actual server instance.
Why people think the R2 is inconsistent in Cold War is due to the Engagement based matchmaking. You are playing more difficult opponents and sometimes easier opponents.
Another thing can be how Cold War routes your traffic
Another thing can be how the netcode’s state is.
it can be a lot of things but I wouldn’t be able to tell exactly unless I was optimizing it.
But Cold War works great with the Netduma. It’ll take time to get it tuned from a dev standpoint as it’s a new game really and constantly updating.

I believe its the direct ping to the server (so no processing time like you have on the in game ping) so yeah, the same as the Duma would show.
My nearest server on CW is showing 24ms... which is the same as my base ping. In game I usually have around 30-40ms.

Lets break this down. I'll explain to you most misconceptions as this is very common. This is how a pro player/coach would analyze what you said as well.

"nearly every encounter is me taking damage the moment the enemy appears on my screen without having any time to ADS or with me shooting first but they end up killing me,"
    - You should be already ADS. you aren't suppose to win gunfights if your enemy has peak advantage or if they are ready before you. Bad Fundamentals
"Killcam shows them barely getting damaged/shooting me first? " - Kill cams are not an accurate representation of what happened.
"More importantly, do you know how I can be one of those players that can out run bullets or shoots first and kills first? "- You need to learn how to camera correctly and how to analyze good angles. But you shouldn't rely on it.
Ex: I optimized shotzzy and he doesn't rely on cameras. He is just technically gifted and his reaction time is low. This is why he "Jokes" People. The router isn't going to do it for you.
" I don't think optimising your connection to be the best it can be is the way to go. it feels like it has the opposite effect tbh." - False. All Top Players want the lowest latency possible. Don't try to rely on inconsistency. Rely on fundamentals. This is what happens when you listen to "I feel that its better" post instead of statistical analysis.
"I have fibre direct to my premises (100Mbps), dumaos shows I ping the servers 6-7ms and in-game it's anywhere from 18-30ms yet it feels like how a 100ms+ match would feel it previous titles."- This is due to bad fundamentals. You are 100 ms behind because you are sprinting into gunfights not centering. The router can't fix things like this. You have to learn and play to improve.
"DumaOS and OpenWRT" - It's similar if you have an R2. Based off the same platform. Duma is WAY more user friendly.
"My console is hardwired, play on a 1ms monitor, have the necessary ports forwarded and have an open NAT. Even when I'm the only one using my network I still get a poor gaming experience but other users shouldn't matter as I have my console traffic prioritised above all else." - You only tried to optimize up to the router. There is the modem/gateway -> Node -> Aggregator -> ISP -> Backbone -> How your traffic routes (Least expensive route or lowest cost?). There is way more to it.
For the netduma, listen to everything Frazer says and the Netduma Staff.
    Trust me
DON'T GO BASED OFF "It Feels Better Post"
This will lead to more inconsistency and you will be even more frustrated.
Remember, Pro Players never blame their tech. They take personal responsibility. Learn to do this and improve.
We all think we are the best at what we do and let ego get in the way. Professionals know they aren't the best and put in hard work to compensate for it. This is what makes them great.
Practice, Improve, Follow the Guides, have fun.
Netduma didn't make the router to cheat the system. It's to provide you consistency. You aren't suppose to be sprinting and win gunfights. That only works for low skilled opponents. At the highest level, your fundamentals will cost you a tremendous amount of gunfights.
    Hope this helps!
I hope I don't come off harsh or anything. This is not to criticize you but actually tell you the truth and help you improve.

Do you have an explanation for why in every match of cold war I feel like I'm half a second behind everyone else? nearly every encounter is me taking damage the moment the enemy appears on my screen without having any time to ADS or with me shooting first but they end up killing me, killcam shows them barely getting damaged/shooting me first? More importantly, do you know how I can be one of those players that can out run bullets or shoots first and kills first? I don't think optimising your connection to be the best it can be is the way to go. it feels like it has the opposite effect tbh.
I have fibre direct to my premises (100Mbps), dumaos shows I ping the servers 6-7ms and in-game it's anywhere from 18-30ms yet it feels like how a 100ms+ match would feel it previous titles. The combination of my internet with dumaos didn't go well with Cold War for some reason so I've been using a router with openwrt but since the latest patch this router is also giving me bad performance. My console is hardwired, play on a 1ms monitor, have the necessary ports forwarded and have an open NAT. Even when I'm the only one using my network I still get a poor gaming experience but other users shouldn't matter as I have my console traffic prioritised above all else.

My bandwidth in-game shows anywhere from 2100-2700Kbps and it's been ok. Can't switch off QoS and use bandwidth limiter on my fresh tomato router, unless it's possible via command line console using tc commands? I haven't checked.
Been using my openwrt router and I think it's the only one that gives me playable games on CW. No other router works for me.

My suggestion is try everything that's been mentioned on this thread and stick with what works for you. What might be good for one person might not be for the next e.g. people here prefer manually prioritising the ports but this hasn't worked for me at all.
What I found best for my connection (FTTP) is to prioritise my PS4 as games console and also switch on duma classified games. They both do the same thing and I'd probably get the same result switching just one of them on but I've had some great ones with both on so I leave it like that. I haven't tried throttling bandwidth and disabling share excess yet but it might be something i'll try when I start getting crap games.
Also you will still have games where you feel a second behind some people, usually they have some dodgy connection going on and are hard to kill. There's nothing you can do about them. I used to block the servers I'd come across these people and keep track of the IP addresses, but after factory resetting and losing all my severs I later found some of those servers gave me a good connection, it was just the players I was vs at that time had the packetburst symbols etc and were hard to kill.

Like I mentioned on the previous page when I looked at an old capture there were 3 TCP ports in use during my game, 1 of which was 443. The IP was from "akamai technologies" which is a CDN so in my case it looks like my ps4 was maybe checking for an update for one of my games or maybe even downloading one..
I personally wouldn't prioritise any tcp ports, especially 443 cause it's not gaming traffic.

It's interesting they found higher ping on the higher skilled accounts. I either get connected to a local server in Australia and ping 20-30ms in-game, or after it takes too long to find me a game it'll put me on a server in Asia somewhere, giving me 115-130ms.
Even when I'm on a local server most games feel like it's over 100ms but if I join someone's session the games they find play better for me despite having the same ping, I don't understand. The matchmaking is definitely sacrificing connection quality of my opponents to match me with equally skilled ones. This used to happen in AW (but a lot worse) where 90% of my games were vs a mixture of players from asian with 4-5KD but my partner could find a local game instantly with her 0.8KD on the same connection...

This is what I'm finding with MW19 just lately. My first 10 matches or so I have no connection problems at all and then come the shoot first die first or many hitmarkers on someones back while they running away from me yet they don't drop.
I check the ping at the beginning of every match and I'm not being put on higher ping servers in the later matches so I'm guessing it is something to do with SBMM.

I've tried playing with "artificial lag" anywhere from 40-100ms extra and it wasn't good. Maybe it's not the same as connecting to a server further away that gives you that latency for real

Many of us has the same thought as me...i am not "pro" player.....i play cod over 10 years..i am not noob..my accuracy is very very good the same the reactions.
I know sometimes i will play with players better than me...but every time?????
It seams that every time i was playing in a "competition"..others kill me so easy and i have to try hard to kill them...etc. they plays with suppressor in their gun and get kill so easy in a distance.
It feels that you play against players and against the game it self.
So with other persons from Openwrt we try to do something better....we are not network "gurus"...and find some usefull things to make it plays better....i say better...not perfect.
I see players that in every cod they have perfect connection.
We dont have the networking knowledge to do better things...someone will say that the problem maybe is my low bandwidth connection..i have 16000Kbps down and only 800kbps for up....but i see that people even with gigabyte connections suffer from the same issues...etc. shoot first die first.
So i dont think that speeds matters ....also we find via wireshark that game uses only about 200Kbps for upload and about 400Kbps for download....so everyone has plenty speeds to run the game.
I usually play in 80ms ping..many of you play at much lower ping....but again the same thing happens.....even if you play at 80ms ping or 30ms ping......shoot first..die first.
    Sooo what the hell???
    Speeds doesn't matter...ping doesn't matter....
For sure that guy that has perfect connection..and you see him in Youtube in a video like "fix lag in cold war"...will suggest some "fixes" that everyone knows..but the real "trick" of course will handle it for himself sure.
It will be something else that "matters"....and this must be investigated by the company who sells "gaming routers"...not me ..the user.

It's strange cod is the only game where I get inconsistent connections but the good players I come across year after year always seem to dominate and be untouchable. They always have that connection edge where they can turn on people shooting them from behind and get the kill, people appear to be moving around slowly not reacting to them shooting etc. They obviously have some networking knowledge to be able to tweak their connection to give them this type of result year after year. Yes they are good players but how are they always on the "good side of lag comp?"
If I owned a company that marketed routers to gamers (where the majority of people played cod) I would do everything I could to make the users of my device have the best experience possible gaming. I would offer different predefined tweaks within the settings (qos schedulers/disciplines/latency etc) letting users find what works best for them giving them an enjoyable gaming experience. I don't see this as cheating as these options are explorable with different firmware, people just don't have the knowledge to do it themselves.
