Guest Netduma_Iain
Before I start, you cannot downgrade once you upgrade. Hello everyone, The canaries have beta tested this for a day. I'd personally prefer to test for a few more days. But I know some of you are very eager to try it. I understand your excitement, its fun to have the newest thing. But please be aware that this is literally testing. So it may actually degrade your experience rather than improve it. That is why I suggest you wait. I'll describe the features that most users will find interesting: Fixed the VPN infinite loading bug Fixed issues Internet Explorer was having with the interface Your home location should stop moving now, its guessed once and thats it Fixed the allow & deny feature with strict mode on You can now view in miles as well as kilometres You now have different levels of zoom There is now a reboot button on the interface There is now a reset to factory settings on the interface as well as a physical reset button You can toggle way more settings now including IPv6 All hosts are rendered now. The host is never hidden so you can get the true ping to host You can now select your own geo-filter ports using the advanced section You can also pick older cloud versions if you like There are two more features that require a bit more detail. Internet Diagnosis You can now diagnose your Internet connection. This is better then just using speedtest as it measures metrics useful to gamers, it stores the details so you can provide evidence to your ISP but most importantly it disables your Internet while running the test. So nothing else can influence the result. The page also has links to PSN/Xbl statuses as we spend too much time in support handling issues that are not our end. Ping Assist This is the latest addition to the geo-filter. Before you get too hyped it does NOT allow you to specify a maximum ping. What it does is it looks for pings below what you set, and if finds any it lets it through regardless of distance. What's the point? Well for example when I have my ping assist set I connect to a server in California(even though I'm in the UK) that pings 20ms. Clearly the server is not in California its a mislocation in the database. So the purpose of ping assist is stop the damage mislocations can incur. I recommend setting ping assist above 40ms, personally I set mine to 50ms. Its a very difficult problem and if you set it too low, like 20ms or below it probably won't find anything. Ping assist will only work if you go to the service selection box at the top of the geo-filter and override it with "Playstation Network PA" or "Xbox live PA". So if you have xbox live already, select the box pick your Xbox again then pick "Xbox Live PA". To see it you need to do a hard refresn, on windows that is "Ctrl+F5" Padlocks When you get booted out a lobby you'll see a padlock appear now. That is the reason you got booted, so if it keeps happening increase your filter to keep that padlock within your range. READ CAREFULLY! I can't stress this enough, read the following upgrade instructions carefully. I do not want to support people who don't read the instructions. If you don't it can take over an hour just to get basic Internet back. So please read very carefully. Download this file netduma.com/firmware/R1-v-1-02-7b.sig (MAKE SURE YOU READ STEP 4 - we have had two customers who did not bother to read the instructions and have now semi-bricked their routers which is taking us a while to resolve). Go to upgrade section on the router Go to advanced section keep the "preserve settings" TICKED, I repeat DO NOT UNTICK this keep the "check version" TICKED Upload the file you just got and click upgrade Wait till it takes you to the main page Changelog Relink all devices after restarting firewall/network so that geo-filter & other applications work after applying advanced settings without reboot. Allow user to select different cloud versions. Removed basic upgrade feature. Fixed home location move. Home is only guessed once on reset. Fixed advanced Geo-Filter classifications. Fixed Allow & Deny with strict mode enabled. Conversion between kilometres and miles on the Geo-Filter. Toggle multicast snooping. Toggle IPv6 link-local. Fixed slider on IE 11. Od1n
Iain can you tell me more about the "you cannot downgrade" thing? i couldnt use the R1 with my ISP in version .5 at all, only version .6 with its WAN allowed me to get internet now for whatever reason there might be, but when i upgrade to version .7 and my internet should not work there really isnt any way to go back to .6? when i wait and this version has been stress-tested enough, will there be a .7 gold version that allows me to downgrade just for the unlikely case that i mentioned above? Guest Netduma_Iain
If things go bad I can always recover stuff. But I don't want to do that as I'd rather spend my time making goodies
Od1n
sure and id actually prefer you to priorize goodies i think ill just wait for more feedback on this built before i upgrade then, just to be on the save side (which actually is a pain, the new features just sound too good to miss out on for a day or more lol) btw there isnt any reset factory default procedure for the R1 that puts it back into its .5 state that my unit shipped with right? Guest Netduma_Iain
Od1n your unit shipped with 1.02.2, all units have. There is no way to go back a version but you can reset the configurations. Thats useful for when a user messes up the router to the point it can't connect. Now you can just press a simple button to get all the network and other config settings back to default. Guest Netduma_Iain
I won't downgrade anyone, and honestly I don't want to support any who does do that. Its our policy that you can't downgrade.
Buds
It has got to be focused on the most of to date version for support. Once things are sorted, in theory the routers will be able to auto update if I am not mistaken? If someone wants to stick to a particular version then I guess they could do but would be out in the wild as far as troubleshooting anything as first response will always be 'update to version 1.xxxxxx' and then we will see. Guest Netduma_Iain
Yes exactly Buds, I've actually decided to fully remove the auto update feature. From a business point of view its just way too risky. I don't think people mind just reading the thread and upgrading when they want to.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Thanks for spotting opit, you need to do a hard refresh. On windows that is "Ctrl+F5". I'll edit the post to say that now.

Star_Being13
What are the padlocks? What are geo-filter ports that are now in the advanced section? (Recommended settings) Thanks!
Guest Netduma_Iain
Star_Being13, I would not recommend touching the advanced ports. But if you want to you can do silly & wonderful things. Like geo-filtering websites to stress test a webserver lol The padlocks show you a host that caused you to get booted, I would only focus on them when you get booted. If you do get booted then expand your filter to include the padlock
A7Legit
If this is the .7 beta, then I'm on the .7 alpha and right now I'm getting games that make me look like the best COD player in Australia lmao, much respect for all the work done Iain but I'm going to wait and see how things go with this beta (wait for Gold version). Ding Chavez
Thanks for spotting opit, you need to do a hard refresh. On windows that is "Ctrl+F5". I'll edit the post to say that now. Just fyi, On Chrome - I had to do the refresh (ctrl+F5) while the select service sub menu was active. Refreshing on just the geopanel, or even closing and reopening chrome did not bring up the PA option. Just thought I would pass that tidbit along sense I got stuck finding the PA service. boxone
Ok this beta firmware for me is awesome. COD AW is playing great again. I noticed a lot more host with ping assist enabled. Although its so much that I have no idea who the host is now in the geo filter. Hopefully auto ping current host will be in the final firmware. =) Great job guys!
