BO3 Beta Netduma Reports

There is a popular theory the lag and engine delays are put there on purpose to even the playing field between noobs and veterans because without it, vets would obliterate noobs which means less sales from beginners.

I don't know how valid that theory is, but one thing we can all agree on:

It's gotten WORSE over the years, and not better.

Ghosts is spot on, yet every other title is terrible. It's ironic Ghosts has so much hate because it actually does a lot of things right the community was harping on until then.

All the Treyarch / BO branch of the engine has terrible netcode and engine delay.

Why?

It doesn't matter why, but the fact Activision won't fix it is enough to make you question if they are either incompetent, lazy, or both?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree on that. This game employs less Lag Compensation.

Ghosts could have been a perfect game but... like the name suggests, it is a Ghost town. nobody wants to move in that game. It's a Camper Haven.

In all, it might have been the ideal game but the huge maps caused people to want to camp in that game.

So I definitely will not be looking back to that nightmare.

I guess that is why AW and BO3 are encouraging fast movements and even giving unlimited sprint. It might be a way to train the new players to move about again after Ghosts.

Im getting connected to the dedicated server in Belgium nonetheless I have strict mode enabled and ping assist to 0ms. Dedi is out of my geofilter range how to fix that?

You must have Strict Mode ticked in your Geo-Filter settings.

After a crappy start I have to buck the trend and say this is a great game.

After the juddery beginings the past 3 days it has played smooth in the uk , the netduma Geo works with it that's always a plus ;)

I have found my set up and it is working wonder's.

It has that adrenaline rush feeling that I have not had for ages, no its not a feeling it is adrenaline, shaking after a great match haha.

Personaly I am looking forward to November now.

Hey JC,

I really can't believe they would do that it would not be good business in the long run.  My observation is that those in Europe seem to report better performance and us in NA.  For me it has been hit or miss - one great game followed by two so-so then a few total busts.  I got four games with 0 k/d because I bailed due to terrible lag.  The next game was like the old days!

I sure hope they work out the bugs for the full release or their following will die off on them.

LOL - Sorry DB, I got carried away with my rant.

I'm not a great player, I am a little better than average on a good day.  I know my reflexes are nowhere near as good as most of the players in these lobbies.  But I do study a lot of map play, lane control and I try not to make unnecessarily risky moves, so I am not completely inept either.  <_<  If I know where a guy is coming and I pre-fire, FIRE mind you, the guy is WALKING INTO A HAIL OF BULLETS how the hell does that guy have time to 1)Boost, Jump or slide, 2)Acquire me as a target (probably done together) and Kill me?!?

It took you longer to read that and picture it in your mind than the amount of time this happens, and it happens ALL the time.  I am not talking about the pre-aim deaths. You know, where you are just hard sighting an alley and the guy comes into view, raises his gun and wipes you off the map.  WTF?!

I don't know where those bullets are going, but there is an entire world war worth of my bullets just hovering in cyberspace there, so when that patch comes through - LOOK OUT.

Hey Dillinger, I adopt the same strategy and I am a really bad player - when I started playing computer games in 1979 I was a firecracker, now I am just a cranky target for those young super elite players - but I still enjoy it.

DB

The hard truth, from my perspective, is the beta is pretty close to the final product sans a few tweaks, buffs and nerfs.

It's going to play this "bad" come November, and if it gets better it will be around January, if that, when the first patch comes out.

So, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but not expecting miracles.

If you want to speak to Vondeharr directly, Tweet him. I've done it twice now. I don't know if he (or the company) actually reads them, but it makes me feel better AND because they claim they listen to people a.k.a. kids, on Twitter in regard to game feedback. I mean, SHG did and is why they screwed up DOM by changing the scoring to promote killing vs. objective play.

Also, as far as tryhard lobbies...

I've found I do better when I DON'T try hard at all.

These kids are hunched over, hands tense and sweaty, while I just sit back and actually don't rush around corners. I ADS and having a stable (slow moving) firing platform allows me to nail  targets who are dashing towards me nine times out of ten. This is why I don't ever equip "stock" even when  it increases ADS movement. It's more of a disadvantage than advantage, IMO.

In other words, it's just a game, so treat it like a game. You win some, you loose some and this goes for gunfights, too. If you're winning more gunfights thanks to the Netduma, be happy and keep doing what you're doing. If you're not enjoying the game, don't play because there are a lot of other things you may enjoy that don't cause you distress. Gaming is supposed to be fun, but YT, Twitch and MLG have turned it into a false hope meat grinder where kids think if they play their hardest every single time in public matches they will magically be noticed by the pros and recruited to Optic, Faze, etc. We're old enough to know that is not going to happen, and treat the game for what it is: A video game. Not a way to make money, or become famous.

Hey JC,

You are right about not trying hard, I find when I float along it goes well then I start to try to keep my good score going and guess what - the wheels come off my walker and I go back to "bad".

JC/Dil:

You guys make some great points and I couldn't agree more that this is just a game and we want it to be fun - or quit!  I don't rage any more - you should have heard me 20 years ago!  The two concerns I have is that I want the game to work properly so I can have fun and have a handicap perk for us really old buggers!  Like it takes 100 bullets to kill us so we have time to let go of the walker and get our gun up, adjust our glasses and fire our "one-shot-kill"; now that is a perk that would work for me and put lots of fun in the game - can you image the frustration those young bucks would have dealing with that one.  In my dreams...

Really appreciate your thoughtful comments, thank you both.

I got really lucky playing ghosts then. Even now when forced into tdm there are only the rare camper with the ied. Now I run flackjacket and their protection system gets them killed. I have always rushed on ghosts so maybe the campers are just my targets on the way to my kill streaks which I tend to cycle often on. Connection is spot on so I don't get many BS deaths. My biggest worry are snipers most games.

As for the old days 3arc has NEVER made a good game as far as connections. I have always questioned my aim and my sanity playing their trashy code. It amazes me so many people are up their asses too. They really are poor multiplayer developers for connection and hit detection. Even their hitmarker sounds lag. Their engine itself lags. Ghosts is half the delay of BO2 and no bullet bug, btw that is back in the game. I count my shots and 3arc is still off. Ghosts I could count my shots and knew when the killshot left every time to acquire a new target.

Looks like it's 2016 for a decent CoD. I hope it's not in the future, doesn't have exo, no IEDs and give the complainers some smaller maps from onset.

Sadly I hear battlefront has boost packs now... Why the fuck does every developer think we need boost jump? It's fucking halos fault I tell you.

I'm with you Z.  Tuesday and Wednesday were bad, but playable, Thursday was the worst, but the most recent patch (1.16.51.5) hit sometime Friday and it made a WORLD of difference.  I played for about 4 hours yesterday, off an on, and I really enjoyed it.  The overall playability, fun and "CoD feel" is there, but it's a bit more shiny with slide movements and exo-suits, but the game is fun.

The nerf on the M8 is tragic.  I worked my ass off to get that gun unlocked, played through a ton of bad/unplayable/bad hit detection horseshit if my team was "winning" so I could get the round XP.  I get the thing and get to absolutely beast with it for about half a day and now it's a water rifle.  So sad, that gun would have been my favorite with the Battle Beaver smart triggers.  That set up was OP for sure.

I have my little book of notes. I re-read them last night as I was sitting in the ice-whirlpool, after the blood draw and the vital food preparation for my 7th custom protein and Gamma Labs meal in line with the "basic" XB1 dirty casual gaming manifesto.

The stuff I wanted in the game is there.  The TTK is good, not too OP.  It gives you time to react because the scenery is still too OP.

The Snipers are finally doing what snipers are supposed to do, and that is be sneaky and play smart.  No more rushing spawns and QS'ing everywhere.

The shotguns are hit and miss.  In the confines of Evac, and the WORST map in the Beta, and those halls the shotguns seem to suffer from some sort of fear of killing on Holy Ground or something.  I've used the same set up on the snow map, inside the fancy house, and that Jackhammer/Haymaker style shotgun absolutely RAPES.  Take that same gun somewhere else and it shoots soft Dolce fluffy pillows of cream filled Aero bubbles (bonus points if you know what an Aero bar is).

The Exo movements aren't OP and the extended time in the air makes you as easy to hit as a hot air balloon.

Scorestreaks are finally effective again.  I love that the UAV is now the second streak and not the first.  Less of them to deal with and that second unlocked 4-shot launcher is tits.  The H.A.T.R./VSAT is still awesome and the timing for the care packages was reduced slightly so you can get them without being overrun by the scrambling masses.

The game is fun again.

Is there room for improvement?  Absolutely.  Will I be playing in November?  Absolutely.

What a difference a day makes!  Just hung up my headset after a couple of hours of the best play so far, no lag, no jitters and even the graphics appeared crisper.  I turned off the "Strict" on my Duma and got connected to a dedi server in the mid-west, Kansas I think, not real sure of my states.

Not only that, the paint-shop worked like a charm, I had created paint jobs but they kept disappearing after a round.  They seem to be OK now!  Hopefully things are moving in the right direction. ;)

Well got to hit the "Q" so I will have to take a break...

Play hard, Play clean, and have fun... most of all respect your elders!

The game is hit and miss for everybody, it seems? That is not a sign of a good game in terms of netcode, IMO.

If you do well, you should do well because of skill, map awareness, reflexes, etc. If you do poorly, you do poorly because you are lacking in one of the areas mentioned previously.

The problem I have is I never know exactly WHY I die, or WHY I get a kill sometimes. There is no sense of accomplishment because I don't know if the lag comp is on my side, or against me. The Netduma does what it can to help us optimize our connections, but it can't magically alter the core netcode and make it "perfect" (or close to it). No game is going to be perfect online. I accept that. However, CoD has become worse and worse as time goes on sans Ghosts.

The most telling thing is when somebody in this thread said they tried the beta and deleted it after an hour because they are used to netcocde (BF4) actually doing what it's supposed to do. I know, the irony is BF4 had a terrible netcode launch, but unlike Activision, Dice went about fixing the game (they had no choice; smaller player base = more expectations and continued sales). If CoD had a smaller player base, it would have been dead by now, or forced the devs to fix the netcode to ensure future sales.

I hope the release is better than this, but like I said before, this is probably what we are getting with obvious fixes e.g. The disappearing scoreboard, etc.

What happened to this game?
It got so much nerfs as opposed to during the PS4 Beta period.
Like almost all the Specialists got a nerf.
If you had not nerfed Rejack, there was no need to Nerf the rest.
Rejack cannot be activated when you are killed by another Specialist ability in case some of you might not know.
The amount of changes to the other Specialists are so significant.
And what?! A nerf to so many guns but an increase to a shotgun?

No offense but some keyboard warriors from Xbox and PC community are sure out to ruin this game.
The game was really fun thanks to all these different Specialist Abilities that compliment each other and with many guns that are useful as opposed to only one OP gun.

But I feel like I am going to have an underwhelming experience when the game launches as opposed to what I got in the PS4 Beta.

I've been seeing Youtubers like Thunder and Xclusive Ace saying that their experience with the PS4 beta was much smoother in terms of the connection and they can get it have an Open NAT.
On the Xbox Beta however, they are complaining that not only is the community worst and not as casual but Xclusive Ace even mentioned that even though the Xbox version had a kind of lag spike, he didn't see it being portrayed on the Netduma unlike the PS4 version.

And to add salt to the wound, Digital Foundry and Xclusive Ace mentioned that this Beta is officially running at 900p on the Xbox One and that when the players are not moving, the player models will start to blur out and blend with the background thus making it harder to see unless the characters are moving.

This has been a great afternoon.  The game worked flawlessly and I had constant pings in the 30 - 40 range.  The only issue I had was my wonderful paint job kept disappearing and I had to leave BO3 and relaunch to get it back - and yes I do play much better with my customized paint job - go figure! LMAO.

Time to take my best friend out for a walk but I hate to quit, this has been like it was a few years ago - sorry like in Ghosts!

Me too Bawgs, the early afternoon has played really well and I decided to end on an up.  I had a good lobby, and stayed it in for 2 additional games, all of which were 2.5+ K/D runs.  That's the way I want to end this Beta, which those games as my memory.  The deaths I had were legit and I didn't benefit from any strange lag.

When my shot was on, my bullets were hitting.  When I got shot first, I could hit my buttons and begin to react, if the guy had me, he killed me.  Nothing felt cheap.  I got a very close wiff with an Annihilator Pistol, and I want it to stay that way.   I got to use that Robot specialist, with his psychosis ability and that is really cool to see.  I was in a lobby with a knife only guy.  I sent out the bots and watched him materialize from a dark corner in the courtyard on Combine.  He dashed out and made a "kill" on a bot, only to stand there after it vanished and I got to light him up.  Good fun.

That was as good as it was going to get for me this week if recent history is true to form, so I am going to quit there.  I have seen enough, after the two most recent patches, to think this game is going to be both great fun and some work to master.  I liked the game play, so I'll be keeping a pre-order, but I will be switching it from the XB1 over to the PS4.

The XB1 crowd just doesn't have an off switch for "Go as hard as possible and try to decimate the other team or I'll call them all fags for tryharding" mindset of gaming and this week was enough "E-competition" for this old dude.

Yeah I opened my NAT also this might have some correlation.

I did too but had to unplug my duma to do it and port forward my nighthawk. I don't remember what you guys did to open it with duma. Can you refresh my memory?
