NEW R3 FIRMWARE - DumaOS 4.0.1510

Hi everyone,

We are excited to roll out a major new firmware update for the Netduma R3, packed with significant improvements and optimisations we’ve been developing over the last year.

This is a comprehensive release. You will experience a noticeably faster user interface, improved Wi-Fi auto-channel selection, new dedicated front panel LED controls, and key memory and security patches designed for long-term stability.

Alongside these broader enhancements, we have completely overhauled two core systems:

Device Manager & Classification Engine
We have implemented a completely new Device Classification backend that allows classification and categorisation rules to be updated dynamically over the cloud. Just as our DPI system automatically updates to support new games, DumaOS can now recognize and categorize newly released smart devices as soon as they hit the market.

To help make Device Manager as accurate as possible, users can now optionally report incorrect classifications directly to us. This reporting is purely opt-in, fully anonymised, and directly helps improve detection accuracy for all users. You will be asked if you want to participate the first time you make changes in Device Manager, and you can easily change your preference at any time from the Settings menu.

 

Geo-Latency
We have fine-tuned Geo-Latency to work more reliably with our currently supported titles, while expanding support to include more games, such as Battlefield 6. We have also reduced its footprint under the hood to improve overall system performance.

Behind the scenes, we have been working hard on several exciting new DumaOS features that we are almost ready to share. Expect to hear more about those very soon.

Device Classification

• A completely new Device Classification backend allows classification and categorisation rules to be updated dynamically over the cloud.
• New device types have been added.
• Users can now optionally report incorrect classifications, which directly helps improve detection accuracy for all users.

Wi-Fi Enhancements

• Wi-Fi auto channel handling has been improved, resulting in better channel and width selection.

Geo-Filter/Geo-Latency

• Significant backend updates have been applied to both the Geo-Latency and Geo-Filter features to improve connection filtering.

LED and RGB controls

• Dedicated front panel LED control support has been added.
• The Front LED Toggle and Dynamic Game Lightning toggle are automatically disabled if RGB is switched off.
• The selected RGB Animation has been made more obvious in the interface.
• The initial state of the front panel LEDs is now properly set and retained after a factory reset.

DPI (application detection)

• Speed Test detection has been added for Behavioural Identification (BI).
• DPI database loading issues and general DPI failures have been resolved.
• YouTube videos viewed in the Firefox browser are now detected correctly by the DPI engine.

Stability and Security

• Security vulnerabilities in the webserver and a Device Manager SQL Injection have been patched.
• DumaOS now uses less memory, which reduces crashes over long-term use.
• A Steady-ping memory usage fix has been implemented.
• Fixes were made to WAN settings to properly apply and reset VLANs, and to apply and reset WAN MAC Spoofing.
• Adblocker Cloud loading issues on the first boot after a reset have been fixed.
• Ping Optimiser resources are cleanly removed after tests are complete.
• Additional servers have been added for the built-in Speedtest.
• The Diagnostics Report no longer misses calls.

UI Enhancements

• UI performance has been significantly improved by utilizing React 18.
• Failed SmartBOOST auto allocations are now displayed on the Stats for Nerds page.
• A PPPoE Speeds warning has been added to settings and setup to prevent DNS misconfigurations.
• Mobile page transitions with nested switching are no longer broken.
• The tour cover page now fits correctly in mobile landscape mode, and the Device Manager tour step no longer points to nothing.
• Most locations with input fields now respond properly to the enter key.
• The UI now loads reliably after a Factory Reset or during UI exceptions.
• The setup no longer gets stuck on the splash screen forever after finishing, and early redirects between hardware setup and regular setup have been resolved.
• Logs are now completely rendered within the Mobile App, and HTML is no longer inadvertently displayed in the Public IP.
• The Data history widget now retrieves data immediately, and stars on the Device Manager reflect changes much faster.
• Clock times on the homepage have been fixed.
• The desktop Speedtest page is no longer scrollable when it contains empty content.
• Theme Override no longer gets stuck forever retrying.
• Minor copy and styling issues have been addressed, including a bad layout for the Factory Reset item on the Troubleshooting page for languages with longer text strings.
• The word "Fair" is now translated correctly, and the Network Activity graph now correctly displays upload data in French.
• Accent colour headings now properly display even if accent colours are not supported.

Known Issue

• There is a known issue with the WAN Settings page, when using a PPPoE connection. This will be fixed in the next firmware.

@Netduma Alex With this update I've noticed that the router no longer recognizes the computers system name. For example my computer is named Jamie-PC and in device manager the router knew and automatically named me on the router as Jamie-PC. But now with this latest firmware it names everyone as Microsoft Windows Computer and I need to manually rename everyone myself. 

Additionally, there are less device manager icon options to select for each device on the network now. 

There is no longer a inique icon for Wi-Fi extenders like in the past. Not a major issue but strange to remove options that were available before.

This is actually an intentional change. For most users, we thought that the hostname wouldn't be useful. For example the default hostname for a Windows PC is usually DESKTOP-XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX is a random series of characters. In this scenario, the name "Microsoft Windows Computer" might be more useful.

However I can see that for users who customise their hostnames, or for users with lots of the same type of device, this change is actually a step backwards.

Perhaps we could add a toggle to display hostnames instead, or perhaps we could put the hostname in brackets after the assigned name? I'll discuss it with the frontend guys.

Due to the Device Manager overhaul, some of the device/icon mappings were broken. If for example we update the name of a device type from the cloud, it might no longer link to the correct icon, which I think is what happened in this case. I will talk to the frontend team and make sure we get non-generic icons for everything.

Hey, quick question before I sign up with a new ISP. They're giving me a dedicated fiber line with a static IP on a /31 (mask 255.255.255.254). Their ONT will be in bridge mode going straight into the R3, no PPPoE.

Does the R3, with this new firmware DumaOS 4.0.1510, accept a /31 subnet mask in the WAN static IP settings?

Just a heads up.

The Mac Address Cloning area under Advanced WAN Details is constantly trying to load/buffer the address. This is on all Internet browsers and on the app.

I am also unable to enter and save any DNS Override or MTU settings as pressing the save button doesn’t save your inputs. This is likely because the Mac Address Cloning area is still trying to load. This also happens on all browsers and the app too.
