R1 DumaOS Briefly Delayed

Netduma Luke

Recommended Posts

So, I've been reading these comments for the past 24 hours about NetDuma once again postponing the date for the new OS, and even though I'm highly upset about it, I can't complain as this has happened in the past.

This whole argument on both sides is a bit ridiculous, but on some levels understandable. I understand why people are upset, and I also understand their complaints, which I think the mods are not completely understanding the business logic behind one of the complainers comments (no hard feelings, and not to insult). BUT... I do think the mods are being somewhat mature in their responses instead of the typical "You guys suck, its not out yet blah blah blah" response.

To defend the complainers, I agree with the fact that we've been waiting (including myself) for almost more than two years now since we've heard that DumaOS was going to be released. The reason for the release was because Netduma wanted to change the gaming router that no other router company could accomplish before, which was no lag spiking, no bufferbloat problems etc, and everyone jumped for joy and pissed themselves waiting for an arrival of this update. The problem: Netduma has said time and time again that they would release it in Fall 2016, Spring of 2017, another date, and again today, still with no update. To defend one of the comments made by a complainer, as i remember, his complaint was from a business aspect, explaining that customers should not be waiting this long for an update, especially if they have said over and over that it will be released soon. In the business world, this is terrible communication and marketing and I can fully agree that maybe there should be a change in better communication.

To defend the mods perspective on the situation, I can agree with them on the fact that everyone in here is being childish as all hell over it without even being able to state any logical argument to prove themselves (only a couple in here have been able to do so). I can agree that Netduma might be making a bit of an excuse over this just a tad, but I don't think they would purposely be lying to the customer just to support them buying the new Nighthawk. Even if they ARE giving out DumaOS for free in the near future, understanding business, don't you think that they might be making something out of giving it for free? like more purchases of their routers for the new OS?

What I'm not agreeing with on both sides, which happens very often on these forums, is that the mods and the customers can never get along, or ever come to an understanding when it comes to specific opinions on certain matters (Yes, I've run into a problem with a mod myself, who will be unnamed, but problem was solved and him and I are okay now). By everyone arguing over whos mature, whos not, why is it not released, blaming the company, blaming customers, blaming mods and staff etc, you're not getting anywhere by arguing. At this rate, just let Luke and the rest of the team do what they have to do to finish the product and their problem with this, and we should hopefully have it soon.

Now, someone said that Netduma should release the product with an agreement that allows us to have it without the BC temporarily to fix this problem. Now THAT I agree with, but I doubt it will happen.

Sorry, but this had to be said. :)

I disagree with you.  I think NetDuma would absolutely purposely lie to the Duma Army.  The reason I come to this conclusion is the fact that they waited 1 day prior to the launch of DumaOS on the R1 to delay it.  You, the moderators and everyone else who can be reasonable has to understand that this issue did not prop up on April 16th 2018.  I refuse to believe that supposedly this got overlooked until the day of the launch.  Also if that is the case I am sure same was required when they launched with NetGear XR500 backwards compatibility etc.  That was 2 months a go now I believe correct me if I am wrong * I could be wrong about when the XR500 launched*.  With all that said I believe they knew in advance but they bought themselves time and hoped they could fix it.  They couldn't fix it so they delayed on the day of the launch.  I would be less upset if they just said 2 weeks a go we need more time but no they do it on the last day.  Also they didn't delay it to a specific date they simply said its delayed at most is a few weeks.  What is a few weeks?  It was delayed in 2016 to 2018.  Private beta apparently happened for the DumaOS but never did the Public Beta.  They never said Public Beta would not have taken place.

I also signed up for e-mail notifications about the DumaOS on their site and never once did i get an e-mail about anything period.  So yes I believe NetDuma has purposely lied to us and will continue.   This is just my opinion and conclusion I have come to.  Personally I hope I am wrong because I want NetDuma to succeed but I also want to hold them accountable to if nothing else but their own DAMN timetable/schedules.

Thank You

I just hope this delay does not end up being more than what Mr. Luke has said which is *Weeks at most*.  No timetable no potential date. I believe it is because they don't have any idea and also because they don't want to disappoint again.

I am positive all the way. Thanks for the advice. The patience is over. We were all patient and waited a long time as you know. Sometimes it's enough. Understand it or not. If I had chilled my whole life I had achieved nothing at all.

Agree with this, I see no reason why people should continue to be patient. We're well beyond the point of asking your paying user base for more time to deliver features that were promised more than a year ago, and then sold to another company in the meantime.

I'm with you.

I feel misled, there's no way an issue like this was only know about a day before release. There's only 2 logical explanations, either they're lying or utterly incompetent.

When you look back through the original announcement threads, there's a clear theme and that's misinformation. Many times they were asked about dates, the team kept promising and then delay, normally days before the set date, or simply not saying anything at all. There are multiple instances of this. Then, completely out of the blue, we are told of the 'amazing' announcement that the DumaOs will be on a Netgear router first, THANKS!

It's no surprise there's no actual launch date now. They've missed the April 17th date, what's the point in providing another date? It just allows them to keep updating us that we're just 'weeks' away.

The real cynic in me says that the update will brick the majority of R1's, and as most will be well outside of the warranty period, the only solution will be to spend money on a new one. But that's just the really cynical part of me :/

I'd also like to ponder a question about the mods here. It's hugely evident from a large number of posts across the various threads that the mods have taken it upon themselves to defend the Dev Team, I see absolutely no reason for this, it's just creating more hostility than necessary.  I understand you're all huge fans of NetDuma, but you're continuous defense of shockingly poorly managed situation is bordering on comedic. How about you allow people to air their concerns and frustrations without constantly jumping to the defense of the dev's? Maybe you could even try and put your own feelings aside and empathise with those of us who feel frustrated? Those of us that haven't ever really felt the benefit of the R1? Those of us who are just plain tired of the excuses and denials?

Great video on why he sold his R1 router.   He was huge supporter of the router with countless tutorial videos.

I myself have given up on the R1 router and NetDuma in general and will be switching to something different.  There are too many inconsistencies with their DumaOS for the R1.  The only thing that has been consistent is them delaying the DumaOS release period.  I will keep the R1 router and when the DumaOS releases if I remember will get back on it to see if anything changed.

Waaay back i told the devs not to announce anything, let alone go public with release dates unless they were absolutely certain that they could deliver..

I did this a couple of times, practically begged them not to do that.. So they deserve some backlash imo.

Also, i keep hearing: It's FREE, It's a FREE update, you should be glad.. FREE FREE and FREE.

Yes, I am happy about that. But then again, Why would it not be free? It's a firmware update, big or small it's still just a firmware update.

Name one company that charges money for a firmware update? We bought their product, and it was not exactly cheap so of course we should get the latest firmware for free.

To quote Bricktop: "Of course fcking of course"  :P

No point on saying anything until after the few weeks are up. Talking shit here won't help and won't make the update come any sooner.

I have every faith in the team to bring this update soon, it's one I've been looking forward to.

I take it they've been busy and this set back just adds to the build up ;)

It's not a standard firmware update, it's a new operating system, there's a big difference.

10 pages already, approx 200 posts, tons of questions and speculation.

Admin replies: ZERO.

Sorry, but this is the definition of "fishy" gentlemen...

Luke's already given us a status update, explained the reason why & estimated when it will be available.

Rather than respond to numerous questions & ridiculous speculation I'd rather they focus on the task at hand.

I'm sure they will respond when they have further information to share, it's only been a day!

When they say "a few more weeks", What does that actually mean? Ive waited 2 years, so a couple of weeks is no big issue to me.

Someone please define a few weeks

I think Lukes timeframe of a few weeks is better then giving people an actual date as you can see that whenever a specified date is given and there are setbacks, they receive unnecessary derogatory comments, end of the day the R1 works pretty well as is.

i dont understand all this frustation, i´m very happy with the netduma without the dumaOS,
I love the current version, for me works perfect, i need only the host filtering (radious), and the congestion control, the rest is play like a beast and destroy that fuking lobbys in call of duty.

Just a quick question to those who "do not understand the frurstration"....

Do you guys run a business or a company of any kind ?

I do mate, and if I treated my paying clients the way this lot are treating us, I probably wouldn't have a business left.

Even if I didn't, it wouldn't matter. The point is that at the most basic level of customer service, you behave in a manner that's respectful to your customers. That isn't happening here.

All the nonsense about not complaining is mainly from people who just want to make themselves look good. Every single one of us has a right to feel frustrated, in the same way that we have the right to feel pleased or in some cases, euphoric about the R1. I have the right to feel frustrated, you have the right to be apathetic, you own your feelings, and I'll own mine.

There's a huge lack of communication from the devs, and the whole team are incapable of empathy or understanding why people may feel frustrated.

Hi Duma Army,

We need to announce that the free upgrade of our new software, DumaOS, for the Netduma R1 will need to be briefly delayed due to unexpected requirement from our Legal Team. Our lawyers have advised that DumaOS on the R1 must be backwards compatible.

In other words, if you install DumaOS onto the R1 you should always have the option to reinstall the older R1 firmware if you prefer to go back. We had not designed the DumaOS integration with the R1 to allow for this as DumaOS is superior. But based on legal advice we now must redo the integration to allow for this. It should take, at absolute most, a few more weeks. Nothing more as we have everything else working.

We realise you have been waiting patiently for this upgrade and this last-minute delay is frustrating. Our entire development team is working flat out to get this last bit fixed as soon as possible as we really want you all on DumaOS.

For what it's worth, we're as frustrated as you are as we can't wait to start making lots of new R-Apps (features) for you all.

We will get this last piece done as soon as possible and then it will be full steam ahead in delivering an explosion of new DumaOS features for you all.

Thank you for your continued support.

The ND Team

Luke, I hope you are being honest here because if you are not that is no way to treat your customers. All I ever wanted was the truth.
