procreate Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 So why are games release on Tuesdays? Why do they release things on days kids have school? What is wrong with them? Why not release on Fridays? It's so stupid... Do they realise what they do to parents? My 11 yo son is trying to stay up to midnight on school night for destiny2. My other son always wants cod on midnight release, also on school night. Are they fucking stupid?

My other son always wants cod on midnight release, also on school night. Are they fucking stupid? there are many factors that go into these release dates.. 1 i can think of very quickly at the top of my head is, when the kid plays the midnight release, they wake up sometime the next morning go to school & talk about it to their friends. Word Of Mouth is another huge factor in the sales of these games. one friend says how much they enjoy it convincing another friend to buy and so on and so fourth. say more of their friends buy it, this means there are more chances of them continously playing the game because their friends are playing, resulting into dedicated players who in turn will more than likely will invest more $ into the games DLC. not to mention the kid who they do not know sitting/standing near them listening in to the conversation who will probably be interested in the game and end up looking it up online and probably buying it as well. & thats just 1 reason why they may do this. cheers!

It has to do with people getting paid etc...there is a big thing behind all this. same with movie releases.
pollutionblues Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I think it goes back to the early 90’s when the gaming industry wanted to standardise release timings. I’m pretty sure it was Sega who started it.
ColonicBoom Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 You can work it in your favour though, tell them they can have it as soon as they've finished their homework and chores. You wouldn't believe the pace they keep for chores when a game is hanging in the balance! As far as a midnight release goes... tough luck kid.
procreate Posted September 7, 2017 Author Posted September 7, 2017 It has to do with people getting paid etc...there is a big thing behind all this. same with movie releases. Movies release on weekends. Thursday late shows usually but close enough. Music is released on Tuesdays I believe. Not sure if I believe verbal marketing at school though. Most kids all know what's coming up already and when and active on their friends lists. Thursday would be more acceptable than Tuesdays. Or midnight Fridays.
cranium2001 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 "It started with music," famed US video game analyst Michael Pachter informs me, "then VHS tapes and DVDs. Retailers were very slow to stock shelves, so distributors asked for entertainment products to release on Tuesday so retailers could have them in stores by Friday when consumer traffic picks up." This is an online quote. My wife managed an Electronics Boutique (GameStop/Game) for 14 years. This is basically what theu told her too. It was also a boost to beginning of week sluggish sales.

Just curious, is this the training video she had to watch? Lol
cranium2001 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Omg, that's horrible. I was waiting for it to turn into a porn.
Zennon Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Haha that was cringe worthy. Zelda is down with the shizzle lol
cranium2001 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 The guy likes to take it home and "beat it" allegedly.
procreate Posted September 7, 2017 Author Posted September 7, 2017 Ha, that's too funny... They should revisit this strategy. Before I put a block on all internet Monday-Thursday.
ColonicBoom Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I couldn't watch past about 3 mins, she was making me angry. Was that a spoof thing made to show how out of touch they were with gamers or was that legit? If I went to buy a game and they kept emphasising 'playerzzz' and other 'Z' heavy urban patois, I'd have to bus' a cap in they ass.

Was that a spoof thing made to show how out of touch they were with gamers or was that legit? It actually seems real. It really does sound like the GameStop lingo and probably something they'd roll out at their yearly managee meeting. If i remember ill show her this weekend and see ifnits one of theirs. If I went to buy a game and they kept emphasising 'playerzzz' and other 'Z' heavy urban patois, I'd have to bus' a cap in they ass.

That's a legit training video from 2002 for GameCrazy which is now out of business. Can't imagine why?
procreate Posted September 9, 2017 Author Posted September 9, 2017 Not a bad idea to block. I don't see it changing any time soon. Maybe new ndOS will have parental scheduling I don't see it ever changing, just venting for a moment.
