The Hollywood Reboot: Good? Bad?

Dillinger

Recommended Posts

In recent years many of the movies I spent whiling away hours as a pre-teen, teenager and young adult have been subjected to the REBOOT.

For those not familiar, let me summarize for you.

Take a work that may, but probably did not, have had a societal impact, but at the very least most of the people in your age group know it, can tell when you are quoting it or are talking about it.  Most people have seen the original, thus it was "popular" in a lexicon most likely before the Interwebz, Twitter and Rotten Tomatoes.

And then some young upstart shit fresh out of film school, not having graduated mind you, decides to solicit a ton of money to drop his skinny jeans and take a Kale salad with walnuts and aioli dump all over it.

Now, I suspect you may know what I am talking about, but here is a classic example for those that might be out of the loop:

Red Dawn 1984

Something titled Red Dawn that sucked ass 2012

Now in some cases the reboot actually works and is a great time (Thomas Crown Affair - 1999), even for those that liked the original.

Most of the time this is the Golden Unicorn.  Because most of the reboots suck more shaft than than a $2 barfly on Port Call.... but I digress.

Here is the latest attempt to trample all over the good times from my early movie theater experience and I am wondering what my fellow breatheren (those of us old enough to been part of Ray Parker Jr and the madness of the first one) think about this offering.

All chick Ghostbusters

And no, it's not Hailey Barry, Scarlette Jo and two other world renowned hotties.... Oh NOOOOOOOOOO.

F/U Hollywood.  Stop trying to screw everyone you come in contact with (literally and business wise) and try reinvesting in the up and coming talent.  Stop trying to remake something that was a fad and has passed, thankfully but in a classy fashion, into the lexicon.

Robocop was horrible compared to the 1987 version. Point Break looks ridiculous compared to the original that was great. Hollywood has no more original ideas.

The JJ Abrams Star Trek was good and its sequel meh. But at least he didn't ruin it and kept it close to what the characters are.

Oh snap!  I forgot about that Rococop remake disaster and I had some hope for that one too as the cast had some top talent.

The new Point Break does look completely laughable, but to be fair, the first one was cringe worthy if you went to the theater and were not stoned...LOL

Okay, I have to admit, as cheesy as it was the Nicholas Cage version of Gone in 60 Seconds was leaps and bounds above the original. If you've never seen it, don't. It was filmed in the town I live and grew up in and the surrounding areas but I still think it stinks. Heck, my friends dad had a hit part as the Postal Carrier in it. Good times.

How many Spiderman movies-remakes can you bear to watch?

I was done after the first one, but I gave the second one a chance and regretted it.  I haven't seen any of 27 that have been done in the last 8 years....LOL

saw star wars was pretty good but one character looks kind of like Driftor oh no say it aint so Dillinger

Just great.  Star Wars somehow snuck redneck fighter pilots into the X-wings, Then we had Muppets, then we got a love triangle that was just WRONG GEORGE, then you give me a CGI moron who completely overshadowed the rest of the movie, some garbage. Mace Windu (score!) and then Space Dipt0r.
