Tommyboy19
Can't get my head around dsl reports as when I think I've found my best settings then recheck 3 times as sim mentions doing this to make sure it's an stable bufferfloat but mine changes any info would be greatly appreciated on other tips and tricks on using dsl reports
N3CR0
Don't use that crappy site. Its unrealible.
ColonicBoom
I don't use it at all anymore. I'd recommend ping plotter, it's far more reliable.
RL317
As above, PingPlotter FTW. I've found DSLR tracking of bandwidth and bufferbloat to be pretty reliable, but the site falsely reports packet loss. If you run a test on reactive algorithm and/or while using device prio that's anything but default, the results page (green button that appears after the test) will show packet re-xmit at >0% even if preemptive always gives you exactly 0%. This would suggest there's something wrong with the R1's reactive algo, or its device prio, but if you use the same settings and run a PingPlotter test it won't show the same packet loss. Your best bet is to use PingPlotter to tweak your settings to eliminate bloat. On a PC you can have the PingPlotter software open on half of the page and then use a DSLR speed test in another window just to flood your line. Keep PP running at all times, run a speed test at 100% just to see what bloat you can expect as standard, then lower your bandwidth sliders by 5 or 10% (less if you really don't mind spending time playing with it because you want to be exact) and then run another speed test. Rinse and repeat until you notice the speed test doesn't cause your PingPlotter latency to climb anymore - that's how you find out what settings you need to suppress bufferbloat. PingPlotter gives you much more control because you choose which server/IP you want to ping, and because every important piece of info (latency, jitter, packet loss) is displayed all on one page so it's easy to read. Once you find a good slider % number with this method, you shouldn't need to do any testing of that nature again. Just memorise the "sweet spot" % numbers for gaming, and set back to 100% when you're doing anything but gaming. And don't forget to drop them again the next time you want to play
purpleandgold33
Agreed pingplotter is a great tool. You can also use the smoke ping tool on dsl reports. Basically the same thing as ping plotter but you can't choose your server.

Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted March 9, 2018 Netduma Staff Share Posted March 9, 2018 Thanks again jack being based in the UK I'm gathering morning would be the best time running pingplotter I'd say after 9pm or before 5pm would be a great time to test. The worst times to test are just when everyone gets back from work and start to use the Internet, so choose it based on that
Tommyboy19
I thought I'll let you know I believe I have either an faulty isp line or Ethernet cable as at 70/70 on both download and upload looked completely different to what zennon was showing is his guide as mine would stay at 8ms then spike to 25ms after a few moments then return to 8ms for awhile then spike again at 25ms

Not downloading or doing anything on the internet other than the test.
