Tournament in honour of A7Legit - Suggestions

As you may or may not be aware one of our dear friend's and fellow DumaArmy member A7Legit passed away recently (you can give your condolences with others here: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/22002-a7legit-passed-away/).

It was suggested that we throw a tournament in his honour. I think that is a fantastic idea. Rather than me just deciding what we should do I think that as a community we should come together and decide on how to run this tournament.

I will start out with a few ideas and provide a generic outline of things to decide on, then we can discuss them, come up with new ideas etc. I'll update this top post with the suggestions gathered and then after awhile I'll create a poll and we can vote on what we want the final tournament to look like. After that we'll do signups and finalise the plan.

My ideas:

  • I don't know if A7 would have liked WW2 or not but a WW2 tournament could be nice, playing the CoD game that he was unfortunately never able to try out or possibly play one of his favourite CoDs - BO3 perhaps?
  • Free For All
  • Instead of a prize I think:

              - A donation to his family that everyone can contribute to (sent in a massive card with short condolence messages)

              - A donation to a charity like the British Heart Foundation (i.e. a charity that deals with the heart) that everyone can contribute to (alongside the card above saying how much we raised in his name)

Things to decide on:

  • Game
  • Gametype
  • Rules
  • Prize
  • When should it take place?
  • Anything else?

Please be polite and respectful in this thread. I won't tolerate any rudeness.

Current Suggestions:

FFA

Donation prize
Early December if WW2
October/November if BO3

WW2 may not have as many players as possible

I think us all playing the game that sadly A7 never got to play (WWII) is a great idea however, I think there a some people who aren’t getting WWII and it would be nice to have the highest amount of players possible.

FFA will be far easier to setup than trying to organise teams in my opinion with the top 2 or 3 players from each game advancing to the next round depending on the size of the player pool.

A donation is definitely preferable over the winner getting a prize, I don’t think any of us would feel right taking a prize for winning under the circumstances.

If the game is WWII then maybe early December would be a good time as it’ll give everybody a bit of time to get used to the game. If it’s black ops 3 then maybe October/November time to give plenty time to organise everything.

It's got to be WW2 or BO3. I've PM'd you about this Fraser.

My vote is for FFA Pistols only in whichever game. Mmm skills.

Definitely a donation, rather than a prize. Heart charity is good, they make a difference.

Maybe someone could knock up a signature for bragging rights though?

Then there's the issue of us being on different consoles...

Agreed on FFA will be much easier, do like the idea of pistols that would be a lot of fun!

Yeah what do you think about multiple consoles and multiple regions? The difficulty with our past FFA's is it's really hard to coordinate that many people across that many time zones and having enough people for each category etc

Multiple consoles and multiple regions is the best way as that will give us the maximum amount of players, last time was pretty difficult trying to get a time to suite all time zones. I don't think A7 got to play in the last FFA due to his time zone if I remember correctly.

Truly shocked and saddened by the news of A7s passing.  One of the original Duma gang and an all-round top man.

This place was always like one big family, so whatever's decided, I'm sure will be a fitting tribute.

I think Fraser's idea of charitable donation is the way to go, too. Hopefully, it brings some small comfort to the family in time to come.

Peace.

I think the down fall before was trying to make everyone play at the same time which doesn't really work. Could have it at times which suited each region better e.g. afternoon on Saturday in each.

That would be the way to go IMO,maybe have a winner from the states and a winner from across the pond, just an idea as like you said the time difference is gonna be the most difficult thing to get ironed out.

But love the idea

We're going to need at least four separate tournaments if we split timezones. But I agree that we should do it.

Although I'd also enjoy hearing Fuzzy tears as I spank him  ;)

Unless you just mean the first rounds are going to be within your own continent and then the final is intercontinental.

Do we think gamers can all play nice and accept that difference in ping between continents?  :D

I'm sure I would provide a good time for everyone with my color commentary as I'm getting melted by all the really good guys... ;)

And the ping shouldn't be a difference as we're playing for fun but something tells me a few may have issues with it but maybe not...

Whatever we do...we cannot tie the date for the tournament to the release date of OS! HA HA! couldn't let that one pass! I think Fraser is right. It would have to be on a Saturday afternoon, eastern time, maybe like 2 or 3 in the afternoon, to be able to bring the most people's schedules together.  In my opinion, I think it would be more in the spirit of the event to play together regardless of distance. The other idea I had was for everyone to start a new player just for the event. so everyone is on the same playing field.

I will be there when it's decided on what to do for sure

I do know that that A7 loved BO3 and was always posting his clips on the forum/twitter but WW2 would also work

FFA is a good idea, Whatever we do will be a fitting tribute to our Aussie friend

OK folks.  Here's where it starts getting real

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1m7scrZcn_ZptJREZuCTsf0VlIgTAtl84bVqXTkTbyuk/edit?usp=sharing

I'll take point in the roster.  I'll need some help once we have an idea of who is going to play.  Let's call it for an undetermined Saturday before December.  Once we see how many players are in and where they're from we can dial in the time.  We are going to try and make it convenient for everyone.  It's going to be tough given that we could have people from all over the world, so please don't hold anything against the tournament if the time doesn't work out as well as you'd like it.  Also be honest on your 'Thumb Status'  it may help organize the teams better if we can mix up the skill levels.

I wasn't sure about asking for your email addresses to make it easier to communicate. I thought it would help in the decisions to be made after we have an idea of how many players we'll have. If you are worried about it, leave it blank and look on this post for updates.  You'll be out of the decision making process though

great idea of the tournament in his honor, he certainly deserved it, I also share the idea of donating the prize.

I am going to contribute my grain of sand and I will give some suggestions, I hope they understood since I use a translator because my English is a bit bad ..

1st platforms to play without any doubt should be Xbox one and playstation 4.

2º The date of the tournament would put in the beginning of December so that we could see how many players have gone to ww2 and in case it is not an adequate amount to do it in bops3.

3rd regarding the date a Saturday is the most appropriate and the time I think it would be good to go at night in the European area so that it coincides with the afternoon of America.

I hope it will help and soon we can pay a great homage to a7

a greeting

  • 1 month later...

Would someone be willing to take charge of this event? I fear with my time on DumaOS I may not be able to focus on it enough and A7 deserves a good tournament in his honour.

I created a google doc sign up sheet about a month ago and posted the link in this thread, but I'm not cool enough to get people to sign up. Maybe if you bump the post it will help
