ColonicBoom
So Mr Trakky post this video a while back, about game chat issues in BO3 http://forum.netduma.com/topic/18048-black-ops-3-lag-issue-with-game-engine-and-why-there-is-no-forced-chat/ I noticed this months ago but couldn't find anything online to back it up. I originally thought it was my ISP struggling but I changed ISP and am on a completely different infrastructure now and it persisted (Virgin cable > TalkTalk Fibre). *I have Xbox One so I don't know how PS4 was affected, if it even was affected, I'm interested, so let me know. So if you hadn't noticed it (God knows how!) or watched the video in Trakky's thread... The problem is that game chat / death chat makes BO3 lag. It looked like normal visible lag but would happen (and only happen) exactly when someone else's mic activated for YOU to hear, if you kill them and they death-chat you then you lag, if you have a singing squeaker on your team you lag (if you mute them the problem would go completely). It caused a complete crippling slowdown of the game and all sorts of 'lag' problems, shuddering game, where you might run into a wall because your man didn't make it to where he should have before you turned, or you skip sideways and hit a doorframe, or you teleport backwards, people disappearing, falling off wall-runs, going through walls, I fell through the map once or twice, that sort of random exceptionally bad lag shite. Basically the moment the chat activated the game would go into a sort of over-utilised-CPU grind like when you've set a resource-intensive process going on your computer and then you start opening more programs or too many webpages. Then it would recover when their mic deactivated (and you were likely dead from not having a clue what was going on due to the lag). Party chat was fine though and didn't cause any issues at all. Now I think about it, I wonder how many laggy lobbies were actually caused by other people not knowing that game chat was literally breaking the game... We've been blaming shitty connections of other players in lobbies for how many months now? I noticed this issue before I got the Netduma and that was back in March. But now there is a problem with party chat, on Xbox One at least. Because of this new party chat problem, we've jumped back to try normal game chat again and they seem to have solved the game chat lag (haven't yet heard a death-chat but I would guess it's fixed too)... The new problem is that party chat itself is causing the game to stutter constantly (it seemed to arrive with the post-Battlefield1 beta, BO3 update). If you're in a chat party, BO3 will 'stutter' from start to finish, regardless of whether people even talk. It's causing what looks like a frame-rate drop, it's just looks like the frames freezes for a split-second - but every 5 seconds or so, through the whole match, in every lobby. Literally every game of BO3 stutters if you're in party chat now. And you still end up running into door frames and missing things because your timing goes out the window. It's not even only when people talk though, just being in party chat in complete silence sees the same stuttering (tested in silence). You don't need to be in the same lobby either. Actually, if one person is on the Xbox dashboard then the person playing BO3 will still stutter, so you don't even both need to be in the game. Zen and I tested it the other day. Two of us in the party, both stuttering in BO3, I dashed the game and killed the party - instantly the stuttering stopped for Zen. I sat on the Xbox dashboard and sent a party invite, as soon as he joined the party his game of BO3 started stuttering again. We killed the party and went into separate lobbies, both got ourselves into a decent lag-free lobby and played about half way through... We created a new party during the game and as soon as we were both in party-chat we both instantly got the stuttering back. If we play on our own it doesn't ever stutter. If we play in the same lobby but not in party chat, it doesn't stutter. Several of us have tested it while each of us are not there, so we've been able to rule out each others connections as the problems. We can all play in game chat at the same time and it doesn't stutter. So the obvious solution is play in game chat... But game chat doesn't like that and it randomly changes who can hear who, even halfway through the game it sometimes decides to silence someone (or everyone). If four of us are playing it seems to randomly who can hear who: 1 can hear 2 + 3 but not 4. 2 can hear 1 + 3 but not 4. 3 can 1 + 4 but not 2. 4 can hear everybody but only 3 can hear him. Then halfway through a game '4' can't hear anybody and nobody can hear 4. I would be player 4 in this example. And I have an open NAT in Xbox settings and in game. There's no reason that I suddenly shouldn't be able to hear other players, with open NATs, that I've played with for months without issue. I've tweeted @ActivAssist, they told me to clear my cache. We'd all cleared our caches already, rebooted our Dumas, Xboxes, tried having different lobby hosts, etc. Sometimes it fixes it, sometimes not, sometimes it changes who can and can't hear. Then they asked me to try a different headset of course. I'm surprised they are even allowed out on their own if they honestly believe that, out of a group of four people, it will randomly change who can hear who because of one person having a 'faulty' headset - even though that headset is not faulty in other games or in party chat. They had nothing at all to say about the party chat frame rate stuttering either. I think Treyarch are simply shit developers to be honest. It's a damned shame because BO3 has squandered the chance to be a great game by failing to be stable for the majority of it's first year and failing to fix bugs in a timely manner. And introducing worse bugs with every unnecessary nerf they did. I say 'first year', I'm pretty sure it'll be it's only year. We've tried everything we can think of already and are quite confident that it's BO3 but is PS4 suffering this issue? If anyone has any out-of-the-ordinary suggestions then go for it, I'm listening. Don't suggest my NAT or my ISP because it's neither.
Slipknot31286sic6
I seen that a while a go. Always play in game chat as party chat hogs over 700 kbs up stream. SomE ppl can't handle this and lags game. . I don't believe that but some people do. Game chat lags. I don't see it. Cuz if that's case you could. Test this Plug in mic. Play something on repeat. U should be godly in lobby. Ir mute all in lobby. I think Marc music does it for views like rest if his videos. As u know he is a troll kid..... Teaches nothing but trolls kids n posts about em. All his videos are of this. So I don't trust that video sorry.
Slipknot31286sic6
Oh to fix not hearing other ppl. Turn off auto peer ping and peer ping. . . Glitch with Duma it seems on ps4. Idk if netduma blocking port or blocking people cuz ping isn't meet requirements. Friend found this out. Also if u play in party. More than 1 person has netduma, main person have geo filter enabled. Rest disabled. Or netduma conflict. My experience. With other netduma users. Hope this helps
Shane
The game still drops frames when using game chat, tried it out yesterday. I already have everyone bar party members muted but even then it was still dropping frames until I muted my party as well as everyone else. The game is trash. My previous internet had even higher upload than that, it would have been less than 5% of it's upload. Game chat doesn't lag anymore for me - certainly not like it used to (it was unplayable in game-chat a while back). Oh to fix not hearing other ppl. Turn off auto peer ping and peer ping. . . Hope this helps I very rarely use auto peer ping or peer ping. So it won't be that. I wondered about the ports though, I use UPnP only and so do the three people I usually play with (all Netduma users), we all have similar stable internet. We don't usually play with the geo filter on anyway because Xbox One only has the Irish dedicated servers for Europe. The game still drops frames when using game chat, tried it out yesterday. I already have everyone bar party members muted but even then it was still dropping frames until I muted my party as well as everyone else. The game is trash. Game chat on Xbox One never really caused dropped frames or a little stuttering like this, it caused crippling game-breaking lag. Party chat drops frames which is not 'game-breaking' but it is very off-putting and annoying. The party chat issue, does this exclusively happen when playing BO3? What happens when you play other games? We're not all in agreement with this at the moment. I personally think it was also present in the BF1 beta. I could definitely see it but as it's was a much slower moving game it's not as noticeable. And the game was in beta following a ddos so... I don't see it (or at least haven't noticed it) in BF4 but again this is a slower paced game (and I've only just started playing it) so it could still be there but just not be as visible. I'm going to test it with CoD4 / MW2 / MW3 and anything else I can think of...
boxone
Fraser from my experience its only BOP3. Destiny it's fine but with COD its a killer in a party chat. Screen is frozen but you still hear gameplay and voices.

Zennon
Boom we need some testing without hyper lane, if party chat is using higher BW than game chat it might be creating the jitter spikes we see when downloading from the xbox. I doubt this is the case as other games do not display this problem but it is worth a test.

Slipknot31286sic6
Zennon when u play with other net Duma users do u disable geo filter in top left when ur not host? If u leave this enabled. When I play with my buddy. Shit goes to hell in bo3 on ps4. If both of us are enabled. ... Only host should be.
ColonicBoom
Yep, I put my Xbox direct to my ISP hub (with my Duma just looking on in disgust) and the issue remained. So it's nothing to do with the Netduma setup at all.

Or at least implement some kind of filtering so we get decent AND local connections in lobbies rather than just the 'anyone will do' matchmaking of BO3. Unless there really have been so few players on BO3 that it's literally scraping anyone it can find into each lobby. In which case, let's pray more people buy and play IW+CoDrm
