Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted April 27, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted April 27, 2015 Just to clarify straight away before anyone is really confused, a Raspberry Pi in this instance isn't a pudding but instead a mini credit card sized computer So a while ago I built this little robot buggie thing (it does't have a head or arms and it doesn't speak but I still call it a robot) When I first built is is wasn't very good. It never seemed to work and was very temperamental. I wanted to control is via an iPhone app but the way I developed it meant it wasn't possible. Basically, first time around it was a balls up. So a year later I've given it another shot - stripped the whole thing down I think this time the build was much more successful. I got it controlled via an iPhone app which is how I wanted it. I moved all the electronics to PCBs and I also put some LEDs (which believe it or not were the most difficult, fiddly and frustrating part of the whole thing). While rebuilding it I filmed it and took some pictures. Although I'm happy with how the whole thing went (it went much better than last time) there are a few things that I'm not 100% happy with. First of all, I would have preferred it if it went a bit faster - it moves at a snails pace. Secondly, the LEDs were rubbish and didn't always work. I think there are lose connections on the LEDs so next time I would be much more careful about that. Any questions please ask. If your the kind of person who is interested in the background workings of it then I can explain it if you want If you don't want to watch the whole built process and just want to see the finished thing skip to 4:36 in the video. And finally - I'm not very good at driving it

Dirty Dog
Meh..! Where's the frickin' lazer beamz and Warp drive en? I too can only 2nd, 3rd, and 4th the sentiments of the lads, Crossy. Job well done! How long did it take to complete? Is it part of a project for studies, or just because you can? I struggle to put flat pack furniture together, let alone something like that! I had no idea you were so young either! I was gob smacked after reading Iains comment of you being under 16! You put some of us "Adults", to shame the way you conduct yourself on the forums. You are wise beyond your years and have a bright future ahead of you, no doubt.

I did it cause I wanted something to do - it was't for school or anything. The first time I put it together (about a year ago and it was a fail) it took about a week working on it every evening. This time I knew what I was doing more or less. The actual build took about two weekends but most of that was spent tinkering with the LEDs, the other stuff pretty much just plugged into the boards and worked straight away. The coding took about two nights and then just tinkering with it to fix the bugs and make it all perfectish. Not many people knew my actual age, lol Iain blew my cover Thanks to everyone else, I'm glad you liked it.
