Plus everyone I know with the A50's has an echo. A40 TR with mixamp if you wanna go with astro.
ByMgRs
Yep agreed completely! I have owned the original A40s, A50 gen 2s and the A40 TRs and by for the A40s or A40TRs are the best! The A50s are horrible, constant issues, bad battery etc. If you dont want the extra features offered by the A40 TRs then you can get a really good deal on the slightly older A40s! MrTrakky
I was thinking A40's as i've always been sceptical about wireless headsets and the fact my current set up is wired I wouldn't have any issues being wired are the a40 trs the ones with the pre amp? b00stg0d
The old A50 were SHIT. They wouldn't charge, had an echo. But the new ones are TOP NOTCH! I recently went about a shopping spree and purchased A40, A50, and MX800. The A40 was muffled like I was listening thru a wall, not loud enough at all, 2 pair same effect. The MX800 felt cheaply made and I've had turtle beach fall apart and didn't want to chance it again. The A50 was an awesome, loud sound, wireless, easy to update but the first pair the charging port fell inside the earpiece on day 12. I ultimately chose to stick with the A50 and this set I have now is probably 6 months old and has no noticable wear, the usb port is still intact and I have had zero issues. To each his own. Victor-Yout
i can higly not recommend to buy the a40 tr version!!! it has a very known echoing sound and nobody knows why. there are so many threads on the astro forum about this, you should look for them and read by yourself. funny is that i was at some time reading on the astro forum about this echoing theme and thought do i know this name? and looked around here and found out that sharpz44 had the exact same problem and was also a active netduma user. but i can really recommend the a50s
imts_maul
Had my A50's for a year, no problems, no echoing..battery seems to last no problems on that either (8+ hours), the A40's are nice, the only complaint I ever had with them was not being wireless.. fuzzy clam
Check out some other cans besides astro's,there are so many better options out there for a huge sound stage and better directional cues which is what you want in a headset for gaming. I don't hate Astro's just think there are so many better options out there. But if you gotta have a "gaming headset" I would still look at Sennheiser's gaming headset line over Astros, nice amps just no so nice headphones But IMO go with a set of can's like AD700's,X2's ( Z's fav for gaming )or something like that and then get a Mod Mic and with a mix amp (astro, triton) you've got a really nice set up for gaming. mike
i orderd some astros (the thread is i want a new headset) got them thursday and sent back saturday. 1.the mic wouldnt work. 2.touch the jack on the headset the mic crackled and popped at about 2 billion decibels 3.rotate the jack in the socket and i lost sound from one ear and then the other depending on the direction i rotated the jack. 4.the info you get with them is poor , very poor 5.they are very tight on your head , weather this alters over time i dont know but that was one of the first things i noticed that they were tight and i havnt got a big head (mouth yes but head no lol) 6.i got the ones with the amp , the amp is large you really need a spot for it (it really is bigger than i thought a lot bigger poss 2" thick in real money) 7.theres a button press that and it alters the sound balance/competative and 2 other settings but the instructions dont explain what they actually do unless you go online and my thoughts are i paid 200 quid for these i want a booklet not more work to do. 8. the info on what the dials do is minimal. i only had mine for an hour and for 200 quid i wasnt happy for what i got. the set up is its a wire from the ps4 usb to amp and a wire from the hub to headset and a another wire from ps4 optic feed to the amp (so you really need to sort out your set up for this) , the headset says that you can use them any way about but they are still labeled up left and right (?) and the mic stem/arm seemed a bit flimsy imho as it just bends about and gave me confidence it would stay in the position i placed it esp after the problems i found with the jack into the headset (the mic is connected with a jack that plugs into the left hand cup btw) the wires you get in the kit are about 4 mtrs long so more than enough for a normal sized room. hope this helps a bit. UK_Wildcats_Fans
I have the Sennheiser Game One headset that is amazing when paired with Mixamp Pro TR or Creative X7. While the Astros are good/great headsets, you will notice a difference with the Sennheiser. Head-fi.org has some comprehensive reviews on their website including the Astros. nffcbaz72
Had my Astro a50,s for about a year, xb1 edition, and they are superb, 7.1 surround, crisp and clear sound, no problems with them, apart from you need to charge them after use every time. CleanSlate
I have a pair of A40's but to be honest im not sure what all the hype is around them my sony wireless headset did a better job at sound then the astro a40s
fuzzy clam
Would second UK's suggestion of checking out MLE's ( MadLust Envy ) run down on gaming headsets on Head-fi.org IMO really a solid review on everything you need to know about gaming headsets or headset's used for gaming and it's still updated regularly. Definitely worth a look...
Dillinger
I have the Sennheiser Game One headset that is amazing when paired with Mixamp Pro TR or Creative X7. While the Astros are good/great headsets, you will notice a difference with the Sennheiser. Head-fi.org has some comprehensive reviews on their website including the Astros. I have the Senn PC363, which I think is the same one Fuzzy is running, and we both swear by them. Great, comfortable headset that definitely gave me better audio cues in game than my Astros. However.... [RANT] I would say STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM CREATIVE! Their product out of the box is fine, but their support, their warranty and their customer service (if you can call it that) is WEAPON'S GRADE SHIT!! Fuck Creative. [/RANT] But the Senns are awesome and definitely worth the slight up charge in cost in my eyes.
