I also noticed that a Moderate NAT type does tend to give better results.. Even though this doesnt make much sense having a Moderate NAT but it comes down to what works for each person.. So there really is no wrong or correct answer.. Go with what works. Ones MTU on the other hand I find as a very interesting beast.. Normally one would just leave our current setting.. Which in most cases is 1500 for most people.. But with that said rarely do any servers run at a full 1500 MTU value.. There always lower.. Google, Facebook, Cloudflare, MS, ect. all run at values bellow 1500 MTU value.. So what does this mean.. Path MTU Discovery is what sets the MTU value when we connect to a server..Even a game server.. Both IPV4 use this and IPV6 use this.. PMTUD sends a message of packet to big try this instead to set the MTU.. But from my readings is Path MTU Discovery is not really that reliable.. Specially now when we have IPV6 in the mix.. Regardless even if you have IPV6 disabled on your home network chances are if you connect to a server like Google or MS or a big data center your likely going through some sort of tunneling which having the correct MTU value is even more important.. Just to be clear im not saying for anyone to go and start changing there MTU value.. If things are working well for you Id leave well enough alone! The only reason I mentioned the above is theres alot of factors to take into consideration when things arent right.. And im only really touching on a few of them.. Zippy.

Your welcome! Please do let us know how your new modem does. Im curious on how your results will be with the new modem.. So feel free to share your results. As you know im not a fan of Spectrum.. I think your best chance possible to get a better grip on your ping is buying your own modem like the one you have mentioned. Its going to be your best bet.. Spectrum doesnt seem to be so concerned about latency which is a shame.. My neighbor who is on what I call crusty old dsl has a much better gaming experience and much more stable ping.. But he also only has 7Mbs down and 3 Mbps up.. But yet he games on it fairly decent tbh.. Anyways good luck! Keep us posted. Zippy..

That is a good modem.. There are two that I like.. One is the Arris SB8200 and the other is the one you mentioned here the MB8600 which is the Motorola.. Im also with the same provider as you are. Charter Spectrum.. When it comes to DOCSIS 3.1 modems id buy my own.. Dont use the supplied Spectrums DOCSIS 3.1 modems. They are locked down and have been having issues with there own in house firmware for there DOCSIS 3.1 modems.. When you purchase your own modem you are responsible to download any updated firmware from the company you bought the modem from.. So example of this would be if you bought the Motorola then you would have to get any updates for firmwares from them directly.. Not from Spectrum.. Which is what I like and want.. Also your modem wont be locked down to where you cant make simple changes if need be.. Even though theres not alot in a modem interface its still nice to have full access.. So you should be just fine with the Motorola.. Most seem to buy that one because its got a good price.. The Arris was a bit more expensive.. But as time has past the two could be fairly close now.. Both modems dont have the puma chipset.. Which is another plus! Good luck! Zippy.

It should be compatible with most any modem.Just not sure exactly what you mean by had difficulties turning on? Is your ISP Charter Spectrum? Also make sure you make a new topic if your having trouble so you can get the help needed if your still experiencing issues.. That way your issue wont get over looked. Thanks! Zippy.

Do you have an XR450 or and XR500? I noticed in your sig on the left you have a XR450.. If you have a XR450 I dont think the beta has started for that unless they are considering that a XR500.. Thanks! Zippy.

Thanks so much Casey! Glad to hear.. I also tried this and had the same thing happen.. So I was able to reproduce.. Thanks! Zippy.

It would be close to maxing out your connection.. But it would not max it out fully.. If you do the math with QoS on the download the router is capable of handling is about 860.If your connection is capable of 940 then it wouldnt fully max it out. The difference is about 80 Mbps on the download.. Upload the router is capable of 821.With QoS on.. The difference you would lose there is about 59 Mbps.. So again it wouldnt fully max out your connection.. These are just figures of course on paper.. And from what Fraser has mentioned for capable speeds to expect. And this is all with QoS on... Speeds likely will vary depending on where and what server one is testing to.. With those type of speeds you have im not sure you would even notice not having that extra there.. Good luck! Zippy.

Thank my friend! Will give it a go in a bit. Zippy.

Fraser I have to ask are these cloud updates at least being done over https? This is an answer I feel needs to be asked. I get this is a gaming router but I sure hope Cloud Updates are over a secured connection. Also why does this router rely so heavily on clearing ones browser cache and cookies? I have beta tested a lot of routers over time and I honestly have never seen so much talk about browser cache and cookies. I have the XR500 and this type of talk doesn't scream superior to me at all. And the fact ive never run across this before from other routers might mean its not a good idea. So when I log into my router does it make a connection through my browser to some server every time I login? Is the router trying to make a connection to a server? How about when one flushes the cloud on the Geo Filter? Is it trying to communicate to a server for these cloud or profile updates? Also what about these R-Apps. Why is it these start to take longer to load? Are those only communicating between me and my browser/router? Those aren't trying to communicate outside to some server are they? Thanks Zippy.

Have you tested to see if it does work in Custom games/Competitive? My guess is if the custom game is being hosted on the server then the ports should be the same. But if a custom game flips to a P2P then they may not.. You will know if its working by the red light and by a nice flow of packets being prioritized up and down or send and receive.. Zippy.

That's good to know your light is now turning back on with that arrangement. You could always experiment even more if you wanted and further narrow down your source port even more. But if your happy with what you have then great! The reason why 3074 isn't your source port is a good question. And why others are able to use it and have game traffic go through it is another interesting question. What we do know now atm is your source port for in gameplay action isn't 3074 UDP. So your making headway there! Zippy.

I also find it strange that some are getting 3074 for in gameplay traffic as well.. It does seem to change for whatever the reason. And we wouldn't have known this if it wasn't for all the good info posted here. I have did a port capture from first power up of my Xbox X to when I load a game and get into the lobby. For this test I was using Halo5. And here is what takes place for me which I found interesting. For this test I do also want to be clear that I only was looking at the order of ports from power up to when playing a game. And my capture was strictly focusing on UDP. Heres what took place for me. Powering up Xbox X Source 3074 - 3544 Destination UDP Then right after that I got this arrangement. Source 3544 - 3074 Destination UDP Now I load Halo5 and got into a lobby but didn't start a game. Source 3074 - 3544 Destination UDP Now I start a game and this is what takes place. Source 3074 - 3544 Destination UDP right after that came this. Source 57567 - 30005 Destination UDP. (This is the Dedicated Server for in gameplay). Right after playing a game and was sitting back into the lobby this arrangement came back. Source 3074 - 3544 Destination UDP. From here this would basically repeat itself except the port number the Dedicated server uses for each new game always seems to change. Which would make sense. But my Source port 57567 always staid the same. This pattern also goes in the same order when playing Cod as well except the Sever port numbers are at a wider range 30000:45000 UDP on that game but again my Source port when playing is always 57567. What I do find interesting out of this is port 3544 UDP. Its a tunneling port MS uses for IPV6 Teredo Tunneling. Even when I have IPV6 disabled that port is still present. I am going to test this with full Native IPV6 and see if that port is still there. But in order for me to get my IPV6 to fully work I have to use my ASUS Router. For whatever the reason my XR500 IPV6 DNS isn't working.. Another surprise there! lol.. For those of you wondering when I prioritize ports the only ones I personally am prioritizing are my in gameplay ports.. That's it! And only UDP ports.. Zippy.
-
albert dh, Try what Fraser said. Basically why your light isn't coming on is because your source port isn't 3074 for in game play. To test this you can also try this and see if the light comes on. Source 20000:65000 UDP Destination 30000:45000 UDP If your light comes on with that arrangement then you now know your source port for in game play isn't 3074 UDP. And it falls somewhere in between 20000--65000. Post back with your results. Thanks! Zippy.

That's interesting about fq_codel. Wonder if they used it for ABB or for a flow rate type deal.. I did get your pm btw. I will respond as soon as I have the time! Zippy.

Traffic Prioritization Settings: Modern Warefare (BO4)
Zippy replied to East's topic in Call of Duty Support
Ive tried IPv6. But im on the Xbox One X. Not sure what your playing on. I personally like IPv6. The last few months Xbox Live has sent out a few updates that are really pushing IPV6. The only problem is DumaOS doesn't fully support IPV6.. And even the XR500 doesn't give one full control of it either. We would need a good firmware update to get that on board. But give it a try and experiment a bit would be my suggestion. I personally want IPV6.. By disabling Share Excess you are basically locking your devices on the flower to hard bandwidth limits. Meaning they wont change even if other devices are not using anything. I feel it helps to stabilize my connection better by keeping the bandwidth consistent.. Again experiment with it and see what works best for you.. Zippy. -

Well welcome!! Im also gaming on the Xbox One X. Try that and see how your gaming goes. Don't be afraid to experiment a bit with giving more or less.. You will find everyone is going to have theres set a little different.. There really is no magical setting. If you have questions or need help feel free to ask! Zippy. -

Honestly then I would just allocate more bandwidth to your gaming pc or whatever it is your gaming on..Hope that makes sense. Your bandwidth allocation is the flower. Btw welcome to the forum.. Seems like you might be new here! 👍 Zippy. -

Some use both. I personally have only been using UDP. Experiment with this. Try both then try UDP.. See if one way or another performs better for you.. Zippy. -

Rodney if your on Fiber connection then I would try to not use ABB. How many devices do you have connected to your router? Zippy. -

No worries. Seems like we are on the same sheet of music! Good to see there is something somewhat consistent about this.. lol.. We share the same thoughts and settings! 👍 Zippy. -

Rodney, I would start high with your sliders then work your way down. If you over buffer your connection that also seems to have a negative effect. Personally I rarely use buffer Bloat Control. Or if I do use it I set my sliders very high. Like 98% up and down.. Zippy. -

Using the exact ports seems to work much better for me as well.. Using a range of ports did not give the same effect. And I usually just prioritize UDP ports. But it wouldn't hurt to experiment using both.. This really comes down to experimenting what works for each person. But using the actual port number seems to render better performance. Zippy. -
xr300 super slow, settings or problem?
Zippy replied to ynothc's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Exactly! Every router seems to have an issue of some kind. What makes the difference is how quick it gets resolved and how serious of an issue it is. Your smart in buying what you did while still keeping an open mind about the XR300. That is the most logical approach. At least you have time to return the XR300 if the issues cant be resolved. I wish I had that option because I know what I would have done with mine by now..lol.. Ive had issues with my XR500 just shy of a year.. If that tells you anything.. Im stuck with this gem. But good thing is I have a few good back up options at hand! Keep us posted on how things go for you. 👍 Zippy. -
xr300 super slow, settings or problem?
Zippy replied to ynothc's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Your totally welcome! I just wish we were able to make a more positive result from our efforts. Netduma staff might be off this weekend so id say Monday you should hear something from them. Some of the Netduma features are very intriguing. And when things are working like they are meant to work it is a fantastic running machine. But with that said I just don't want you to have any of the issues I have with my XR500. I wish that on no one.. Even though you have the XR300 I feel some of the issues are across all series at times. Example would be what your experiencing atm with speeds. For some reason that issue pops up with me and my only course of action is a full factory reboot. Which after doing that how many times becomes a very big pain and usually is very short lived. Currently I don't even have my XR500 hooked up anymore until the new firmware comes out. Which already has been a very lengthy amount of time and I just cant have issues of that nature all the time so I had to take the XR500 out of my network until some of these issues are address. Currently im using my ASUS ROG Rapture GT AC5300 and that has come a long way from when I first beta tested that. Now that router has been a pretty solid performer. But it took a lot of work from us testers and input back to ASUS. But they stayed engaged and always sent new firmware out in a timely manner.. The thing im finding after beta testing so many routers is the more techy they get the more and more issues are sure to pop up! That's the nature of the beast. Good luck! Zippy. -
xr300 super slow, settings or problem?
Zippy replied to ynothc's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Yes its as simple as clicking use this MAC in the DumaOS settings. You can try that.. Something else you can also do is input your seeds that your suppose to get and see if that also helps. Im still a bit surprised your speeds aren't higher though Also how many devices do you have on your network? In the bandwidth allocation do you have everything set to have the same amount of bandwidth? And share excess on? I know you mentioned you have disabled QoS but you may need to enable that again to see if we cant joggle something loose. I was hoping by now Netduma would have chimed in here by now to give you some better advice. The AC5300 is a solid performer. The AX88U is the latest tech in wireless. So the AX in the 88U is what that stands for. Its suppose to be better wifi and better throughput. You could try that. I understand your situation where you don't have the time atm to mess around with these type of things. But at the end of the day its up to you to make the decision of what you would like and want. Never hurts to ask when you purchase whatever one you like at the store. Most will give a good opinion. The thing is when purchasing anything like a router always see what the return policy is.. Just so you cover yourself in that respect. So say if you go for the AX88U and you have issues early on you can return it for a refund. That's an example of course im giving you but either of those should be a good performers for you. Still was hoping Netduma would have chimed in by now for yah.. Wish I had better advice at this point for you. But never hurts to try another router of your liking if you don't have time atm and the family want there Internet! I get that ha ha.. Good luck and hope your luck will change! Zippy.
