Nighthawk Pro Gaming Router's Owner's tired of waiting over 2 year's for firmware release and nothing yet

Recommended Posts

For the past 2 year's I have been posting asking when will the next 3.0 firmware  for the XR700 and other XR router's will be released and all I've got was the run a round I’ve gone to Netgear support they say that Natduma  has to release it and hasn’t released anything for the router’s and people paid good money for a product but Netduma are not doing the firmware updates like they promised fixing some of the issues and you know what there going to say like (shouldn't be much longer before another version is released) for the past 2 year's the XR700 is still on the duma os beta going on 2 year's now

I just want to how other Nighthawk Pro Gaming Routers Owns feel

Agree. We buy such an expensive router and barely get any improvements/updates

I'm not exactly fond of my XR1000 vs my Eero 6 set but once they get some new firmware updates up I'll probably switch back to it.

The wait has certainly been tiresome, so I'm glad they're fixing that.

Totally understand where you guys are coming from, I really do.

To give you the most up-to-date update, we've built the latest DumaOS features onto the XR700 and have now sent these changes off to NETGEAR for them to build into a full firmware.

Once we've received a firmware back, we'll put it through our testing. When it passes our testing, we'll go ahead to release this firmware as a beta version to those who want to use it first.

I don't have an ETA for this but rest assured it's still a top priority of ours and we will make sure we get a firmware out to you guys as quick as is possible.

Yeah i agree, I'm very frustrated about the XR500 router. Took it out of my setup March 2021 due to DHCP failing and its been in a drawer since then...i think i have plugged it in once to see if the last firmware fixed the issue but it never. It went back to the draw and its been in there ever since. 200+ Pounds for a router that is sit in the draw is expectable tbh. Firmware updates just take far too long to come out. Yes i understand there have to be tested before there are released but its just crazy how long it takes.

Either Netduma do not have enough resources to complete the work or Netgear are not giving Netduma the firmware's until a few months after.

I would happily test our firmware if its fixes the DHCP issue

XR1000 owner here which I purchased after my previous TP-Link router was taken out by lightning after being rock solid for years, experienced every issue under the sun during the 8-months that I used it (Now on a shelf in a box). I found that it was mildly reliable if I did not touch any features beyond the bare basics.

Even then I experienced the following issues,

  • DHCP would just stop handing out I.P's once a week, month, whenever it decided and would require a reboot.
  • Reboots were like a minefield, on three occasions the router refused to come back up and required a factory reset.
  • During the last firmware update the router stopped working on reboot and required a factory reset.
  • Annoyingly slow interface.
  • My USB hard drive handling media would go offline and become unavailable constantly.
  • Many setting adjustments require a reboot which is well, see above..

My solution was to buy another router, the TP-Link AX11000 Next-Gen Tri-Band Gaming Router has a butter smooth interface and wireless is much faster. So far it has been rock solid, I expect it to be a 0 fuss tank like my previous TP-Link had been for years.

I think it might have been the best thing to buy a new router at this point. I've been using a cheap 40 pound router for around 12 months now with no issues. I'm now thinking of buying a different router to replace my XR500 due to updates taking far too long. At this point I really have to question netgear and Netduma.

I feel like the dead horse has started beating me 🤡

This tends to happen when folks spend hundreds on a product from an otherwise reputable company and it fails to perform even the most basic router tasks. 😆

What are you people actually expecting from updates? Mind you latest for XR700 (.48) was 3 weeks ago.

Both my 2 XR500's and my XR700 work as it should. Aware of the DHCP issues though, which I suspect to be the main culprit for most. But I use static adresses. Also the VLAN / Upload bug is still there in the XR500.

I use them for game filtering, but also with drives attached, as VPN server, and traffic controller to block some IoT devices etc.

If it's just the 3.0 featues, hardly a game altering expirience, it doesn't functionally change what it does. The only thing I would like to see is the VPN server part using wireguard instead of OpenVPN as OpenVPN does not really use the 4 cores in the XR700, since it's single threaded.

@Bert I think most people just want some refreshing from the features and some updates on the features but as u said my XR700 is working as it should be just perfectly i think i didnt even got the DHCP issues.

I have seen the DHCP issue sometimes with a TV in one of the bedrooms, simply because it's off for weeks at the time. It took longer for it to re establish it's connection via DHCP.

O okay I didnt come across that issue, but as u said its working as it should be working with a few small bugs that went through the time with it but thats normal.

The only other issue I have found is that the switching chips in the XR700 are not able to switch at line rate or there is an issue with the SFP+ interface.

My PC is connected to a 10GBe switch. From there a 10GBe DAC cable into the XR700.

Now if I ping the router at it's internal LAN adress, I will see a slight variation in ping between 3 and 10ms while downloading 600 mbit. If I ping another device connected to LAN ports 3 to 6, the same thing occurs. And that should not be happening IMHO.

This may be an issue with the chipset or SFP+ interface.

So for gaming and bufferbloat etc, you might never be able to get a totally flat line, at least over the SFP+ connection.

I first reported the DHCP issue in March 2021. I have asked to use static address until there get the issue fixed. We i did. That did not work for me..8-9 times the router would just stop working. Only way to fix would be to reboot the router. The a update came out that was suppose to fix the issue. Installed it and did a factory reset..20 Minutes later router stopped working and i reported the issue again around May 2021...March 2022 and still waiting for a fix. I've been using a cheap 40 pound router since around March/April 2021 and DHCP works fine and that router has no issues at all.

i work with network equipment every day of my life with being a Cisco Network Engineer...One of the most basic features of any router is DHCP...Netduma/Netgear have failed to fix this in a quick manner and there have and will continue to lose business until there get a proper solution to get firmware out within weeks not months or years.

The firmware is currently going through testing and bug fixing, we'll put that through our endurance testing suite for a long period of time to see if we can replicate the DHCP issue and uncover any others. We'll probably also give that firmware out as a beta when possible to see if it fixes problems for you guys.

Any news on xr500 firmware?
