hurricane1984
Yes well i tried all your suggestions but none of them worked.. I have my Netgear directly connected to the ISP but no ports are opening in the game.. An hour ago i was using my Fritxbox and no issues at all. So there is definitely something with this router. I tried EVERYTHING possible but nor UpNp nor ports are opening. Yes i tried reset, and yes i restart all that i did, makes no difference at all. Or preferrably the MAC adress so it's always routed right. I looked up a manual for Fritzbox 7590 though and I'm not sure this router provides this option. Then the other way is to forward TCP / UDP 1-65535 to your XR500. On XR500, you don't need a static route for a static IP on your PC, you can make a IP reservation under XR500 LAN settings. But really you don't need this either since uPNP is supposed to take care of this, doesn't matter what IP your PC has. You're using uPNP and port forwarding at the same time, best is to let uPNP do it's job, or if you want the manual rules turn off uPNP. The issues with PPPoE / VLAN only affect your upload QoS by the way. If you have enough bandwidth I doubt it makes a difference. DNS servers don't make a difference for your in game connection quality, usually I just set them to ISP native DNS servers. Yes it does but its called exposed host instead of DMZ. I tried this and no go. UPnP is not enough didn't work so i tried ports manually which also didn't work. I don't understand this worked on the Fritzbox but not on the Netgear. It almost feels like my ISP knows im using my own router and therefore blocking something or the router is simply broken. I did some testing with only UPnP enabled but still not working properly. What am i doing wrong or what could be broken here?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 31, 2020 Administrators Share Posted May 31, 2020 How exactly are you determining whether ports are opened? The UPnP has an issue where it doesn't show the ports all the time even when opening ports.
hurricane1984
Again an issue with the Netgear router? On my Fritz i have not even one issue.. The only big issue is my ISP but that is history next week and hopefully this erratic behavior of the router too. I know they are not opening as i can see that in windows and another program i was running during the game play and the game is telling me to open the ports. The second thing is that i notice lag and stutter issues in the game warframe, i also had this in Destiny 2 but that's to be expected as that is the worst coded game i ever played. The new ISP uses an different approach of the Vlans so maybe it works better as this router clearly doesn't like it. There should be a fix though. Hopefully it comes soon. Now i connected my XR500 as before, no modem or router in between. Its working and i can still watch TV while the ISP told me to end the support for this. Is there a fix for this UPnP issue on this router? I mean, on the Fritx it works without issue and never have had lag in the game but this router supposedly made for gamers giving me issues for some reason lol. Is it because of the PPPoE and Vlans or is there something else going? I did every thing correct and reset the router multiple times without succes. Is it possible for you to use the ISP modem to handle this and then connect the XR to the modem without VLAN/PPPoE configured? Will the QOS issues with pppoe on router be fixed on the upcoming firmware?

hurricane1984
what is going on with this thing?! at first its working very well but over time the connection goes bad for some reason.. can someone plz tell me what the heck is going on with this thing? Could it be that its just broken? This is not what i expected when buying an "gaming router" its being outperformed by my Fritzbox on every level.. how is that possible? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 3, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 3, 2020 The issues you've mentioned so far should be improved with the next update, if not it will provide us with more tools to help diagnose and hopefully to improve the connection. hurricane1984
That would be great. When can we expect this "fix" you think? I need it yesterday as this router is not living up to its name as gaming router at the moment lol.

I have the same configuration 500/500 and directly connected to my ONT. And it works fine in games since you rarely use 500mbit in upload. You should be able to play without QoS without too much issues. It's possible to work around it by using a switch but if the fix is in DumaOS 3.0 then I would not bother. hurricane1984
Than tell me what i am doing wrong? I tried yesterday with my friend who is an network expert and he also couldn't fix it... Its not the speed as games only requires a couple of kb but the instability of the connection and not opening from ports that does it for me. Maybe your ISP is different from mine? Where you from? My ISP is KPN from the Netherlands. Next week monday its going to be T-Mobile which should be better. I connected my Fritzbox 7590 this morning and no issues man, i guess the router is broken so i have to do RMA or go to the hardware store i bought it to exchange it for a new one. hurricane1984
Hi guys, I thought i will give an follow up on my situation. I switched from ISP as i said before and things look a lot better now. I also got a new XR500 as the other one was acting up and an antenna broke off so i went to the retail store and got a new one. Now i can watch TV and game at the same time without issues and they keep supporting IPTV. The issue however is manually portforwarding that simply doesn't work at all. When i use UPnP the ports are opening but not when i manually config them. Not even in DMZ as some suggested. My modem/router i got from the ISP works without issues though, so its an Router (XR500) issue. I signed up for the beta 3.0 software to test, hopefully we get it soon! hurricane1984
I replaced the Zyxel T-50 that came with from my ISP for the XR500. So the XR500 is directly linked to the media converter.

hurricane1984
Why is that suppose to be an issue like this? I don't get it. Is that what is going to be fixed soon? When i use the XR500 after the Zyxel i have double NAT which also gives me problems.. Why does UPnP work and manually port forwarding doesn't?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 12, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 12, 2020 It can probably work in that instance but routers need to be connected to another router or modem in most cases to receive internet. For double NAT you just need to put the XR WAN IP in the Zyxel DMZ and that will resolve it.
hurricane1984
IDk man, this router feels very erratic.. One time it works and the other it simply doesn't. If it works its great but if it doesn't i spend hours on fixing it, not really enjoyable. Putting the router in DMZ is not save and is not advised, it shouldn't be necessary as this router should work via VLans as there is such an option. It is just weird that UPnP works most of the time but manually port forwarding doesn't, its an issue on the router side as my Zyxel works perfectly but if i hook the XR500 to it all hell breaks loose. I hope the new firmware is coming soon so i can test as my patience is almost up and im a hair away from going to my retail store and ask my money back as this thing is not usable.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 13, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 13, 2020 Have you tried it with VLAN? It also depends on how you did port forwarding, the source and destination ports won't always be the same. I'm confident people will be happy with 3.0. hurricane1984
Yes, in previous post i said that it worked but the ports are not opening consistently. I will try again later. The ports that needs to be opened is 4950-4955 and i forwarded them correctly. There is only one way you can do this actually.
hurricane1984
Nope.. I connected the XR500 to the Zyxel and it made its own IP range so it doesn't cause conflict with the Zyxel. Now i can't login to the damn thing anymore and resetting also doesn't work.. I connected the Fritz to the same PC and TV and it works.. Same for the Zyxel, every thing works except the XR500 as it causes issue after issue.. Does anyone know when this new amazing firmware is coming to the XR500? I can wait one more week otherwise i have to return the XR500 to the store and get store credit as its unusable buy now..
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 13, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 13, 2020 You can't connect to the interface with the LAN IP it changed to? XR500 beta has gone out to the first batch so more batches will follow soon.
hurricane1984
Nope i cannot for some reason. I tried to reset it but did nothing. I saw the laps on the front change but not the IP nor i get to the login screen to set it up again. I waited for 15 minutes and i had enough and hooked the Fritz again and all works like a charm. There is seriously something wrong with this software man.. I worked with 4 routers now and no issues only with the Netgear one for some reason.. I hope the new firmware fixes a lot of these issues.
