TODDzillaInLA
Hey guys, with all the updates going on with xbox it has basically turned my r1 into a paper weight, im looking to upgrade my r1 router and i was just wondering if anyone is having any issues with the newer versions XR300, 500, or 700? A little about my setup i have fios 1gige hardwired directly to my xbox nothing else connects to this connection and the only game installed on my xbox one x is the current call of duty, i have spectrum for phones, tv's, and other devices if the only difference between the newer versions of the xr's is better wifi then maybe i can stick to just the xr300, i have wifi disabled on my r1 since nothing at all is connected to it besides my xbox but i dont mind spending the extra $ if the xr700 is a all around better router thanks in advanced

Bert
It's a bit overkill running 1Gbit to a Xbox just to play CoD. Changing from a R1 to a XR500 will do nothing for you gameplay wise. The only thing is that a R1 is not able to sustain full speeds of that 1Gbit connection. So when you are downloading stuff on your Xbox you won't get full speeds, but my experience with PSN is that you will not reach them anyway. What I would do in your case is just connect it between your Fios router and Xbox. Set it up in DMZ of your Fios router. Then simply input bandwidts 1000/1000 (assuming you have a symmertical connection) and set the sliders to 100%. Disable QoS. Enable super turbo mode. I was able to get almost 600 Mbit out of it but that maxed my connection. So you could probably see 700ish out of the R1 if you are using a 1Gbit line. This way it will simply act as a standalone geofilter. The only reason I swapped from R1 to XR500 is the poor PPPoE support. As long as you use your ISP's router as well you will be fine with a R1. N3CR0
I had an XR500 but had alot of problems with it so sold it and went back to the R1. But my R1 is 3 years old now and keeps randomly dropping the wifi for some reason so looks like I'll be upgrading sometime soon.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 18, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 18, 2020 You would have the same issue using the Xbox insider builds with those as well, a cloud update needs to be done to resolve that. You would be able to make use of the speed more if you upgrade as you know the R1 is limited.

The r1 is maxed out at high 200mbs, with all the current xbox one updates lately somehow they broke party chat and geo filter also streaming is extremely difficult now, i have over a 100 saved ip's now to allow stream to work and every time i start a stream i usually have to allow a new ip.. games are pretty much unplayable with the r1 connected now. Bert
If you disable QoS and set it in superturbo mode (This was on old FW though) you will get over 600 MBps. As for functionality the R1 with DumaOS and XR series are not too much different, XR series is just faster and has better wifi.

Bert
Then you have something off in your settings. You need to have super turbo mode enabled. By the way don't test on consoles they always read low.
TODDzillaInLA
I’m not, netduma confirmed over a year ago the r1 hardware doesn’t support speeds over 300mb
Bert
It does, as long as you don't use QoS. I have used it myself and was able to get max on my connection, 580 Mbit in superturbo. When I use Turbo / QoS it will drop to about 420-400 Mbit. But you really don't need QoS on a 1Gbit line. The only thing useful on a R1 in that case is the geofilter. If you don't need or want any geofiltering you might as well just plug your Xbox straight in your Fios router and be done with it.
TODDzillaInLA
The hole point to the r1 is the geo filter. With the last 7 or 8 insider updates the geo filter has not been working correctly. And like I mentioned before I followed your steps and only got a max of 286mb why I want to upgrade to a newer nighthawk but Fraser answered that I will have the same issues with party chat not working to they do a cloud update
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 19, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 19, 2020 If you put your speeds into the R1 - you'll have to do 999/999 - then allow it to auto setup for you then it should allow you to get higher than what you're getting. Do a speed test from a wired PC though not the console. Wouldn't it be easier to go back to normal/non insider builds to have everything working rather than purchase another router? No, there’s to many things not working rather stay ahead of the curve or eventually change brands. Soon all your customers are going to have the same issues unfortunately
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 21, 2020 I see you have IPv6 enabled, that should have been disabled if you used the auto setup on the R1 and could be preventing you from getting the higher speeds. Double check the settings from this guide are done: http://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/articles/16000022366-why-is-my-connection-speed-lower- if after that you're still getting the same wired speed test results then it's likely the most you can get. That's fair enough, insider will release lots of builds until they then just release one to the public which is a lot easier for us to then test and update for if necessary. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 21, 2020 Your previous post was from an IPv6 address so perhaps a different network then. Will be the max speed you're able to get in that case then.
TODDzillaInLA
like i mentioned before i have fios for just my xbox and i have spectrum for tv's phones and all other devices and spectrum supports ipv6. i have called frontier and they said there is no future plans at the moment for ipv6 for them and version's fios
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 21, 2020 Understood, thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately I think you'll be limited to that speed with the R1, it's more than enough for gaming but not ideal given what you pay for.
TODDzillaInLA
I wouldn’t mind the speed just no party chat and no geo filter defeats the whole purpose

In all fairness, I believe it to be shows it's age. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with similar issues with my R1. Which is why I mentioned the XR series. In understanding this, I've been fine with the current limitations of the tech. But so far, been able to still utilize the main functions. I know this is going to sound counter intuitive, but have you tried original firmware with being in the Xbox insiders program? I've found that you may be able to squeeze a little more bandwidth on the older firmware. But as I formerly mentioned, the complications I have currently with original firmware is my Wi-Fi no longer functions. Which is not a problem since I have an Wireless AP. Check to see if the Geo works on original, as this may give additional information to Netduma.

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 22, 2020 You could try the original firmware if you want to, I may be wrong but I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference as it is a cloud issue and they run the same cloud.
