Nothing is working how it should

Recommended Posts

I’m not getting the speeds I’m paying for.

That's pretty common, the bandwidth you receive is not necessarily what you pay for.

It depends on the distance you are from the cabinet. I'm about a mile from my cabinet so I can only get 25mb down.

Assuming you're not dropping out because you're too far away from router, you should run a wifi scan from your laptop and choose the least congested channel.

Make sure you don't have devices near the router that might cause interference. You should try the wifi workaround option too.

I’ve tried everything you listed. I used channels 1,6, and 11 and get the same results. I’ve tried WiFi workaround, I’ve tried almost everything I read on the forum. I moved the R1 in multiple locations to see if there were interference and still had the same problems. I even brought a laptop cooler to cool off the R1 in case it was overheating and I still run with the same problems.

Make sure your algorithm in the congestion control is set to reactive if you have over 60MB speeds first

In the misc settings turn turbo mode on if you have 300MB speeds or super turbo if you have it higher than that. I believe the max the r1 can do was 600MB

Not sure on the wifi dropping, I use an ethernet wire for gaming since it's better than wifi, but I also use my phone via wifi and it works very well.

I’m playing on Ethernet so I have no problems with the internet dropping out when gaming, but the WiFi will completely stop working until I unplug. And I have 100 down 10 up, I set it to reactive with deep packet processing off and turbo mode on.

What software version are you on?

When You updated the R1 to the latest firmware did you do a full factory reset? That is advisable upon installing any firmware updates!

I now have the new XR500 but up until then I used my R1 for all my wired devices and a network switch and for my wifi devices I used another spare router I had as a wifi AP connected to my R1 as apart from 2.4GHz I also wanted to use 5GHz which was not on the R1. Plus I have a large house and wanted to make sure I had full coverage. In the 2 years I used this setup I never ever had a wifi drop-out. I know this solution may not be to your liking but it is 1 to consider doing.

Try switching your security mode to WPA-PSK2 (found in Settings > WiFi). You should also make sure no other wireless devices (phones etc) are near the router. Microwaves can also cause bad interference - ensure the R1 is away from any devices like these.

Could you let us know if these drop-outs happen on all WiFi devices or just a few? Does the SSID still show when the WiFi drops out? Is the WiFi on your modem / Hub disabled?

I’m not getting the speeds I’m paying for. WiFi drops everyday. There’s something seriously wrong with my R1 and I need to hear from someone immediately.

Quick question. Does this only happen with a specific device, or does it affect everything connected wirelessly to your R1? I had issues with my laptop either not staying connected (well it was, but I got no internet) or not connecting at all. This problem only affected my laptop - I never had WiFi dropouts with phones, tablets, consoles or my Amazon Fire TV. I did a few things and managed to fix the problem. I don't know exactly which step resolved the issue but I believe it was step 1 as I hadn't tried that at all before...

1. Go to device manager on the affected PC, go to network adapters, find your wireless adapter and click on it, go to the power management tab and uncheck 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power', then reboot your machine.

2. Go to the R1's DHCP Lease page and give your PC a static IP.

3. Go to the R1's wireless page and swap to channel 4.

4. Go to the R1's miscellaneous tab and select WiFi workaround, then reboot router.

Assuming the problem is with your PC, give this a go. Assuming you're losing connection over WiFi with some other device, try the last three steps anyway (especially step 3) because I've not had any issues on channel 4 whatsoever. Prior to discovering this fix, I had tried the default channel (7?), 1, 6, 8 and 11 with no joy.

The WiFi will drop for all devices and I wouldn’t be able to access the the R1’s interface until I unplugged it. I also tried using a static ip... My R1 just do not perform the way I think it should

Did you carefully follow the steps IIIRL suggested? I would highly recommend trying those steps.

You should also try these settings:

- Reactive Algorithm

- 100% anti-flood
- Share excess enabled
- Reset device prioritisation & apply
- Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
- Disable deep packet in misc
- Enable turbo mode (disable if your experience is worse)
- Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds.
- Do a wired speed test from a PC
