Fazor Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Hey guys...thinking about getting a VPN but primarily plan to only use it for my Amazon FireStick. I am very new to the VPN thing and don't know much about it. Is there a free one or cheap one that will work good? I see that most of them have a monthly fee. Any suggestions? Thanks.
BIG__DOG Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 one of the best are P.I.A (privateinternetaccess.com) which i use and costs $39 for a year and another is nordvpn.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 14, 2017 Administrators Posted February 14, 2017 I don't think there will be any free ones, you may be able to find one that gives you a free trial though. I wouldn't recommend using a VPN unless necessary as it could cause more latency/buffering.
Fazor Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 Thanks for the replys. Fraser...would it cause possible lag for everything on my router, or just the selected devices? Cause I don't plan on using the VPN with my Xbox One.
bagsta69 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Look at the settings on firestick, you can circumvent some of the geo restrictions by changing the URL you are getting the stream from in kodi

Fraser...would it cause possible lag for everything on my router, or just the selected devices? Cause I don't plan on using the VPN with my Xbox One. It would only cause possible lag on the selected devices; all you need to do is disable it for the Xbox One on the VPN page.
Fazor Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 Ok cool. And netduma works with all the VPN services? For example, I'm looking to try IPVanish. That would work with the Duma?

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 16, 2017 Administrators Posted February 16, 2017 Let us know how you get on Fazor

Fazor Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Ok. I will keep you all posted as there is a good chance I'll have a question or two when setting it up.
TG3NOC1D3 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I was gonna make a new post but saw this one and realized it's in the same realm lmao. Is there a specific VPN style that plays well with duma, as far as configuration goes? I know OpenVPN security seems to be the favorite out there right now. I just wanna make sure what i get will work internal with the advanced vpn interface. Thanks!

As long as you can obtain the OpenVPN configuration files from the VPN provider you should be able to use it with our VPN feature.
Fazor Posted February 19, 2017 Author Posted February 19, 2017 Well, I got it to work without having to do anything to the router. Just followed a video online how to hook up the VPN with my Fire Stick. I guess the only downside is I can't use it with any other device on my network...but I really only wanted it for the Fire Stick.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 19, 2017 Administrators Posted February 19, 2017 Great to hear you got it sorted
Fazor Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 Thanks Fraser. I'm just glad I didn't have to mess with the router because i like how it's working currently....and with my luck I'd screw something up and mess up my whole network! But yeah, all is good. Now to figure out what to do about Spectrum...but that's on another thread.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 21, 2017 Administrators Posted February 21, 2017 Great as your issue has been resolved I'll close this thread. Feel free to open another if needed
