Headset recommendations?

I currently have the playstation gold headset (PS4) and the Polk 4 shots (XB1). I'm really kicking around the idea of getting the astro a50, so I can use them on both systems. Does anyone have any others they would recommend?

I have both the Astro a40 and a50 (newest version) and I will never buy another brand again. Astros are by far the most comfortable headset to wear that I have owned anyhow (I've only owned TBs other than Astro).

Soundwise I would say that the a40 with mixamp and a50 have the same sound. From what my friends tell me the mic quality is sounds like I'm in a tin can while playing on XBox.....not sure how it sounds on PS4, but I do know that it sounds good on streams, videos etc. Personally I don't give a crud if I sound like a tin can because I didn't buy the headset to sound pleasant in other ppls headsets. I bought it because it sounds better and is more comfortable than any other headset I've owned.

If you have a gaming set up where you're at a desk with a monitor etc I'd say go for the a40 with the mixamp. If your set up is in your living room I'd say to go for the a50 since it's wireless and you won't have cables danging across the floor.

Finally if you play for long periods of time I'd say go with Astro regardless because the comfort is better than any Turtle Beach headset I've owned.

If you are thinking about buying a Turtle Beach headset I will say this: Buy the cheapest one for what you want because they all sound the same regardless of price. I've had there 41s, 42s and xp500s and they all sound exactly alike with the exact same comfort levels.

I hear the a50 has problems after a while.  I think the most versatile set up could be having an astro mixamp with a headphone and a modmic.  Head over to this forum for reviews: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-update-1-4-2015-beyerdynamic-t70-added

I've had my a50s for quite some time and haven't had one issue with them. Actually I'm lying the only issue I've had is with the chat which I don't really care about and that has only been on the XBox One. I don't think I've tried it on the 360.

I got the Astro mixamp and the Audio-Technica ATH-ADG1 Open Air Gaming Headset

It also comes with a USB dongle which can be used for PC's and for the PS4. My mate has a XIM4 and the same headset, he uses the USB dongle for his PS4 because his XIM4 can't pass sound from the controller when cabled.

Works great on both PS4 and XB1.

I used to have a air of turtle beaches, but after buying a pair of astros I would never use anything other that astros. They are by FAR the best headset. I've got a pair of a50s (selling them though) and also a pair of a40s which I prefer to the a50s. Although they have the same sound quality, it was pointless for me to have the a50s because they were usually plugged in anyway with a long USB and also I was sitting at a desk so the A40s would be fine for that.

The A50 headset is also slightly heavier although it isn't something that is too noticeable when wearing it.

The A40s mixamp also has a stream out port on it, so if you are planning on streaming, this is a feature you may fine useful.

Both the a50s and the a40s will work on PS4 and XB1, but you will have to buy the PS4 version and they also buy an xbox 1 chat adapter.

Hope this was helpful.

That's great you're not having issues with yours.

Not going to work for both consoles (so a bit of a useless post :o ), but got a pair to the TB Stealth 500x (stupid name!). Had some Amazon vouchers laying about and got them cheap so figured I'd upgrade from A40 mixamp ATH combo (Gen1 A40 mixamp wasn't playing nice with the XB1 anyways).

Completely wireless for XB1 (Astro A50 need a chat adapter). Sound is different to A40's but with the pre-sets I am only interested in hearing what is around me (i.e players / gunshot / reloading etc) rather than the sound stage. In that regards the 500x beat the A40 once dialled in. Also just getting up to walk for a cuppa between games with headset on is liberating :)

Lol, enemy footsteps don't make sounds in AW.  You can't hear it if it isn't in the game!

People used to say that about BO2 but they are there and with some tweaks you can hear them loudly.

Is there any evidence to support what you're saying though (for AW), because every character can hear their own footsteps and their team mates (in AW).

I use a astro mixamp and a pair of Sony Mdrma900 in dolby mode with a clip on mic. by far the best audio experience ive ever had gaming.

I learned how good the sonys were from Head-fi as EffinFancy pointed out to you. and this is coming from the beyerdynamic t-1's that i used to use.

Its like being there , shame they ditched footsteps gerrrrr lol.

I use an Astro mixamp and a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 in combination with a mod mic.

My old setup. Had years out of it and still use the ATH-AD700 for music when kicking about house / garden etc.

Wouldn't have changed if the gen 1 Mixamp hadn't had issues with XB1 (was very old so who knows if it was just my mixamp). But happy with the change to wireless and quality in my first pair of Turtlebeaches. Lets see how they last through the years though :)

The headset is really comfortable and the sound quality is superb in my opinion. Only the color is a bit meh ;) I have modded them with a microphone plug. But for some reasons I have a ground loop when I use them on my PS4, which isn't there when I use the same setup on my PC. But the Mod mic works pretty good too, but that's another wire.

@ Sindonesia the head fi reviews Mad Lust Envy did are great.I myself like the sennheiser pc360 as they are open cans (just my preference for gaming) they have a pretty big sound stage and are strong in the mid to highs where you want them for gaming.I never understand why people always wanna jam the bass on a FPS.You want the mid's and high's and something with a big sound stage.

Also the AT ad 700's are really nice to,pretty much perfect for gaming aside from a mic.But you can always but a clip on or the make a nice mic you can stick on your new cans.I use to have the Sennheiser 598's with a seprate mic and loved them for gaming.

All the links for the mic add on's are on MLE's review, don't cost much and are really good quality.

And i would recommend a mix amp of some kind,Astro or Triton.

The first thing you gotta decide is are your cans gonna be just for gaming or are they gonna be used for multi purpose.

And it's just my opinion but i think Astro's are really over rated. They are a ton of better headsets you can get for a lot less money.

Good luck
