Blimey , I ordered this R3 in anticipation for a good experience , however after reading through these posts I think I want to send back before even getting it and just stay with my Asus GT-AX6000.Might not even open it up ,is there going to be fixes , I have wired switch which serves  wired all the way down to my pub shed to another ASUS router and it all just works , also is the Wi-Fi any good on the R3

Merry Xmas from the North Sea and will not be home until 30th if I was going to use it

There is a substantial Wi-Fi range decrease from my XR500 to the R3. A 5 year old router has better range than a 2023 router with updated hardware. Even with proper updates & settings, you'll see a bunch of us had issues with random dropping of internet but the R3 says you're connected & nothing will work both hardwired & Wi-Fi devices. I would absolutely hold off, I'm waiting to hear how to get a refund still.

Well that’s not good , looks like I will not even open it then , it’s due to be delivered tomorrow but I’m away working , I need a 100% reliable network in my household so think I will send it back and look again in the future , shame as always liked DumaOS

thanks for info

This might help with your return

Mate I've done everything I can..... I'm also not stupid and know my way around the router. I input my speeds on the router back to 1gb from the 940mb I get from my isp and honestly struggling to get a ps5 speed test to read 900 plus. And speedtest.net on every possible close server to me and I can get 650mb one minute and 770 the next. The router seems very unstable so far. And I don't know of they can fix any of it with software when they tried to keep the price of hardware down....... I'd have paid 300 for a better box I paid 450 for the asus rog but unfortunately due to the geo filter on netduma was over kill and didn't do the one thing I wanted which was to pick the exact server I play on.

Abit worried if fireware/software will even manage to make a difference and if it does how over clocked will the router be running

Thanks for that info ,I’m very familiar withdraws software as have owned all routers apart from 1000 actually still got r1-2 and 700 , I wanted this for geofilter as well and was hopeing it would work with efootball , however I think my Rog will stay and will not even take this out of the packaging ,to much headache for me

cheers

No problem can still try it when you get it maybe will have more firmware updates. Nothing against sending it back after. Don't want to rain on there parade but I'm struggling with it and the WiFi range is questionable tbh if this can't get any better I'm wondering why they made a new one. As all the features are the same my small test with ping stabilisation just added 10ms to games but they felt no better or worse

This is a bummer to hear.  I just purchased a Netgear Nighthawk RS700 due to my R2 taking a dump back in October, before the R3 was announced.  The RS700 seemed great (the form factor and supposed wifi range where I can probably get rid of my mesh sitting behind the R2).  Unfortunately, it was an impulse buy and the price was a huge hit to the pockets.

At any rate, I never got around to opening it, let alone installing it.  When I heard about the R3 I got excited but quickly got sad because I rememberd I have this $700 router sitting here that I can no longer return.  I'm past my 30 day window.

I don't know what to do now.  I intended to try and sell the RS700 somehow, and then get the R3 but after reading these posts, I too am wondering if I should just forego the R3 entirely.  I had both the R1 and R2 and I had a number of issues with even those.  I'd get the R3 and it likely just won't work at all for me LOL.

The easiest fix to get the best of both worlds of the Netduma R3 features and the great WiFi strength on your previous routers is to use both.
In my case, because I need a mesh network to ensure high bandwidth for all my devices, the easiest solution was to use my Asus router in AP mode (Access Point Mode).
This way, I get the benefits of WiFi 6 with it's full bandwidth throughout the house while letting my R2 (with the WiFi disabled) just do it's job as a router with all the gaming features.

Also, because placement matters, I got my Asus router to be at the centre of the house to get the best WiFi experience while my Netduma router is close with the modem. Though at this point, you can easily place the R3 in the middle of the house as well if you already have 1 or 2 dedicated Ethernet cables running there. But again, in my case, I needed a Mesh network. Thus using the Asus router to take advantage of AI Mesh.

So similarly, in your cases, if your WiFi was a lot better with your previous Netgear routers, then just make use of it in AP mode if you'd like.

Buy the asus. Much better hardware, you want stable ping? Enable adaptive QoS set limits and gaming as #1. Still want geo filter? Buy cheap dumaos enabled router (we got em in Australia, telstra modem for $20) and use it lan only.

Dunno why people are surprised at how poor the products are at high prices. Go asus, you won't look back

Yes I already own the Asus , just a shame that the R3 is not living up to the hype from what I have been reading , I will be sending the R3 back without using it and just use the R2 connect to the Asus for gaming consoles.

Look at the specs and history of how they handle updates etc. Easy return if you were suckered in.  Yeah good idea, asus are miles ahead in terms of router reliability and performance also with updates. Geo filter not needed here in Australia as we only have 1 location for all dedicated game servers. They all give me 2ms

Totally understand your thoughts on this, some things to keep in mind:

  1. As a support forum, you will only see issues here
  2. The percentage of people posting vs those who have a router is low
  3. It's completely new hardware and completely new software, even for those who have had the previous DumaOS versions/routers it's quite different so there will be more posts than normal
  4. Opening up the product to loads of people in different countries, playing different games with different setups there are bound to be issues that crop up that were just not possible to find during beta
  5. It's been about a week since launch, we've already got around 3 firmware updates available though not all are publicly available at the moment but at least one is
  6. From the above you may be able to gather that we're able to get firmware out faster than ever before
  7. We've catalogued pretty much every issue I think by this point and reproduced many of them.
  8. Over the coming weeks/months you should see a lot of bug fixes being provided and so will become more stable

I would say so, we've worked hard on improving the WiFi though I know some people are having issues with it though just a few - way better compared to the R2 if you remember that!

Forgot to add , I’m planning on changing the R3 ssid to the one currently in use on the existing set up and hoping that once I do all my device will auto connect to the R3 - should work I guess

WiFi is much better than the R2. If needs be you could use your ASUS as an access point to extend the wifi

Yes I did think about that as well , I will see how it performs as daughter wants the gaming features for Valorant and a few other pc games
