Netduma vs Regular Modem/Router: Gaming Experiance

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have the XR500. Lately i found out that i have much better games since i switched from LAN to Wifi. Does not matter if its 2,4hz r 5hz. Same ports open etc. It seems when i play on LAN i have a "too good clean connection" so Opponents can outlag me and the Lag Compensation is against me. Is there a workaround or can Ian r somebody help r explain to me how to setup properly.

Or if i play on my Phone 4G in a Diffrent Room and Floor thru Walls i get so much advantage compared to a XR500 Clean Connection.

Also whats up with the QOS Mode when i leave it on the game is unplayable, i have to turn it complettly off.

To continue i unplugged the XR 500 and play on my Virgin Connect Box, and the hitmarkers ar so much crisper, the "time to die" is sooo much longer, i can surrvive stuff i cant on the Netduma. Why is that?

Ping is King? My A$$... in Games whare i have <25ms Ping i die just to Fast. The Sweetspot is around >80ms Ping.

Specially in Apex Legens with their shitty Tickrate  i have to limit my conneciton r to fillt it with Torrents r shit to be able to compete, otherwise i get out lagged by some 3rd world Randoms.

I try to limit my speeds to get a "bamboo connection" but u cant fake it compared to the laggy N00bs out there, they have shitty inet and they have massive lag comp advantages thru it.

Also is there a way to get OPEN NAT with the XR500 while i use the regular Moden/Router in Normal Mode and not in Bridge Mode?

Please help with something, bc all the Motto of Netduma, "clean lag free inet" is opposite reality of what u need to compete in Apex Legends, WZ, OW, Destiny etc. Its only good on paper, in reality its a fundemental Flaw and "clean stable inet with 0% packetloss its a proper curse and only good for maybe online chees.

Thx in advance. Greetz.

I'd suggest trying to force a few different servers with Geo-filter, it's not the first time we've heard that a super low ping isn't the best. Everyone's mileage varies though.

Sounds like you need to do optimise QoS a little better, I'd suggest checking out this guide: http://support.netduma.com/support/solutions/articles/16000077073-dumaos-optimal-settings-guide-qos

For Open NAT, check out the DMZ section of this article: http://support.netduma.com/support/solutions/articles/16000076587-dumaos-optimal-settings-guide-open-nat

The issues is uf have to connect to matchmaking server on most games, so if u block it out u cant start & play a game. So the GeoFilter is flawed in this regard.

Optimise, i have 250mbit down, and 50up, CAT8 Cable, ... tell me pls what to optimise, bc i try  everything allready.

With the DMZ is it not unsafe to  put it tru that, like DMZ the XR500 and everything i use on the XR500 banking app etc is "open" then and usafe or do i see that flase?

an important thing to know is that the router will not give you a perfect connection. if your ISP's basic connection is bad, the router will not give you an advantage. what the router does, it stabilizes the connection in your home. the QOS if you are alone and have more than 300MB / S is useless. if you have less than 300MB / S and 4 members of your family are browsing the internet, listening to streaming movies and playing online games, the QOS will stabilize your connection so as not to have fluctuation,

Geo-filter is designed to allow you to connect to local matchmaking servers with great ping, if you block a server, you can't connect to it, that's not a flaw.

I'd suggest following the QoS guide I linked earlier, that will get you setup with QoS. If you're still having issues after this, send over a screenshot of your QoS configuration and we'll help optimise it further if necessary.

It's perfectly safe to DMZ the XR500 as it has it's own firewall. It may be unsafe to DMZ something like a PC or mobile device, but not the XR.

Yeah blit like on apex, if i circle around central EU it still does not let me connect and play, by loading up in map it kicks me or i have to go from filter to spectate or i get kicked.

Ok thx for DMZ will try that.

But its crazy that i have to limit my connection to 1mbit down and 0,5up to have  a regular experiance. If i have it on excess use on i get only disadvantages.

My IPS is perfect its a new building with new fiber setup also the next connected node is brand new witz zero issues.

How can my 2bar 4G Connection on <10mbit be better for every FPS Game then my regular XR500 clean and fast inet. It has to be the Server Tickrate on Games and the advantage given tru Lag Compensation for week inet ppl. Wish me back Quake Arena's Days where Ping was King and u demolished everybody with shittier inet then u self. It cant be that i have to congest my inet to have a regular experiance otherwise i shoot 1st die first, i shoot ghost bullets, but recive Superbullets and get melted by absolute N00bs...

For Apex we likely need to add a few servers to the whitelist for that to work a bit more accurately, we can sort that out. I'm not sure I subscribe to the lag compensation idea but you could be falling prey to that. In which case as mentioned forcing servers further away can help. You could also disable Traffic Prioritization so your game is no longer a priority.

Ping does have a factor in gameplay, believe it. Also, maybe.. just maybe people you're playing against are just better than you?

Ping is king is long gone.

Google: games latency balancing

Basically if your ping is too low they artificially increase your latency a bit. This can be done in a lot of ways. Like when you play at 10ms ping and your enemy at 100ms ping, the game can just delay your hitmarkers and forward your position on the enemy screen by interpolation to take away peekers advantage.

If you played the good old P2P call of duty then ping was king but since playing on dedicated servers latency balancing has been introduced, similar to eliminating host advantage on the older games. In Asia we used to block the dedicated server and seek out p2p games in games like WW2 as this simply gave a much crisper connection feel.
