If you read the entire thread you will see I have done trouble shooting, and taken steps on multiple configurations.  I'm glad you got the diamond in the rough.  Maybe provide your settings.  Of course no IP addresses and such, but actual page by page settings might help others with the config.  I have been top to bottom and through both latest firmware.  UPnP is just one of the issues on the .58 firmware.  I reupdated to the .58 as of this post, instantly IPV6 settings caused havoc and all IPV6 devices dropped connection.  I had to enable and disable again plus a full reboot to get them to return, and this was with IPV6 disabled on actual devices, not just router.  OF course I rebooted after the firmware update.  Besides IPV6, all named devices on the network went to unidentifiable again.  NTP configuration changes and selects the wrong time zone, even though I set it in initial config after updating again.  Mine has just been a nightmare and a headache.  I don't have time to do product testing like I have for almost the last 7 days.  I have done so, just to rule out any issues and to see if I am just configuring it to tight, to loose, etc.  I don't game much...  I more use for business purposes.  Gaming is a by product, it was just the fastest router on the shelf at time of purchase.  Also worthy of note, I have about 25 devices connected in variations on the 2.4, 5G, and Lan....

I understand your frustration. It’s really meant for gaming as well as controlling the network however you could look towards a more enterprise level router if that suits your business. There’s not a huge difference in throughput between the XR or a good wave 2 WiFi 5 router that may have more options you require and suit your setup.

Was there any particular features you require?

Is the XR1000 specifically designed to handle gaming exceptionally but subpar for managing a regular wireless network? What is the max capacity of devices the XR1000 can handle at any given time (for example my AC1750 had a soft cap of 25 2.4ghz devices running simultaneously) even though it had 35 connected to it. Would i better off using both my AC1750 and my XR1000 together and giving wireless responsibilities to the AC1750 and ethernet connected responsibilities to the XR1000? the XR1000 does do great for gaming, its reduced my latency across the board but my wireless devices are suffering, even something as simple as a wireless outlet loses connection and has to be reconfigured before the router reassigns an IP address to it.

It’s very hard to quote max clients but the XR1000 is absolutely fine for domestic use. It’s network controls are very good. Normally you see throughput test done on client throughput and numbers but it’s not intended to be used in a conference area or likes and home environments can have dozens of IoT working away quite happily. I would stick to the XR1000 for WiFi, it should be fine.

Check you are not on 40Mhz on 2.4Ghz and select the second from top on the 5Ghz which is 2000 something. Turn off smart connect too as that can be an issue. Name 2.4 and 5 differently.

I disabled Smart Connect after 1 day of trying it when my phones struggled to connect. while 5G is enabled, I have zero devices connected to it at the moment, every device is on 2.4ghz. It seems most of my devices have done better since sticking to 2.4ghz but i still have a few wireless electrical outlets and my wifi garage door that will say "no internet connection" from time to time and require a reconfigure, more of a hassle than anything but pretty easy fix since all my devices use Static IP addresses. I'll check my 2.4ghz frequency and see if that fixes the remaining issue. Thanks!

In an ideal world 2.4ghz should handle all those IoT and 5Ghz should be for applications that require throughput or better latency.

5Ghz has less range compared to 2.4ghz so positioning of router is important but like all things the environment it’s placed in will effect it’s range.

The problem you maybe seeing say on your garage door is while the router can reach it the client which is your garage door struggles to communicate back. Clients don’t tend to have the same range or transmit power so sometimes you have to add APs to increase WiFi coverage.

there’s an app called WiFi Sweetspots that’s handy to give you a rough idea of coverage, it’s client dependable but if it’s on an iPhone it does help to show where the limits are. It’s free too. You simply run it and walk around watching how the throughput acts. So you could use that to test 2.4 and 5Ghz independently.
don’t forget you may see better range on a WiFi 6 client so take that into consideration if you run WiFi Sweetspots on an AX device .

If it is the case of range issues adding an AP will also help performance wise too. Clients that are struggling to communicate back eat up airtime and while that’s going on it’s delaying traffic.

@Raceghost sorry to hear you feel that way but totally understand. I would recommend the XR500 - it has been out the longest and is currently the most stable of the XR range in my opinion. If you're having any issues there are a lot of different firmware versions you can try. 3.0 is on beta for it so you can choose to forego that or not.

  • 1 month later...

I've owned my XR1000 for 3 months now and i'm having the same issues, this thing's interface is too slow. I am running the most recent firmware(.58), did a factory reset, hardware reset, and I have the same problem. In addition to this every 2-3 weeks I lost the ability to login to the router and have to manually power cycle it, when I do, all configuration is lost and I have to start the configuration all over again from scratch which sucks because I have static ip's setup as well as other configuration changes I have to make.

What is it with this router? When it runs it's okay, other than having to wait for the damn interface to load it's fine, but once I lose any ability to login to it, and this includes the moble app as well, I have to reset it and start all over again which is NOT acceptable.

Is there any fix for this?

Honestly, I haven't seen many firmware updates for this router (as compared to other brand/routers), so I doubt it! I am in the market now for a wifi 6E router and will be happy to list this one on Facebook marketplace for $1.

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you've been having these issues. We've got a firmware update coming for the XR range that will solve a lot a these backend problems. In the mean time, could you please go the System Information -> Click the three-line menu and set the number of retries to 5. Reboot the router after this and see if that's helped.

Sorry to hear this, I responded to you last time you mentioned you've been having issues. We're here to troubleshoot so please do create a new topic and we'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

Thank You, but I am more concerned about every couple of weeks where I can no longer log into it at all, I have to manually power cycle it and once I do that I have to configure it just like it was brand new out of the box, all settings are lost and backups don't work, is there something for that?

Thank You
