replacing PS4 drive with ssd

I remember a few people posting that they have replaced their PS4 drive with a faster SSD drive but for the life of me cannot find the posts.

Anybody done this on a PS4 pro and if so what gains did you get and what drive did you replace it with?

i got a samsung 1tb ssd (i think nfxcr3w got the same 1 but you would have to check with him as he's fallen out with me for some reason I don't know about or care about  :D  ). The whole ps4 interface is more responsive and fluid and the games I play on it have no missing pixelswhich it used to have and I spawn quicker in game than other players who do not have ssd.

Pick one up of Amazon bags depending on what your gonna use it for 1 or 2 TB should be plenty (1 actually) but you might use the storage for other things.

Reading through that old thread was pissing myself laughing, Boom was on top form with our old friend. lol

That said, I have actually played games of Domination on Infinite warfare and then enemy have been waiting at my spawn flag to shoot me as I went to capture. Not saying it was because they had an ssd drive in just that I have had it happen to me and I was like WTF.

I'll let Z chime in on this one.I know a couple of friends who have installed a Seagate and love it.

But like I said I'll let someone else answer that one.

Ive heard they are the best option.

I was also interested in getting one but after having a look at the price, I changed my mind. ( $334.33)https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E1T0B-AM/dp/B00OBRFFAS

The price is absolutely insane, I agree... But (at least on a PC) the difference is night and day.

I don't know how a hybrid drive will perform in a console, but I can tell you that neither X1 or PS4 is optimized to take advantage of 500MB/s read/write speeds of any SSD. But that's not the only factor when it comes to load times. The average seek time is very important when you're loading files for a game. A regular hard drive slows down significantly because it's all moving parts, so seek times can go very high. On a SSD it typically is less than 2ms.

I've used PCs with hybrid drives and they are fast, but once you fill that flash storage the drive gets bogged down. Basically, if you know nothing about drives, you'll have lets say 8 gigs of very fast flash storage that will hold your most used files for fast access. The problem here is that 8 gigs can be 1 map on COD. Now you filled that 8 gigs loading 1 file and the drive is backed up because now it's reading directly from the spinning disk.

I trust this site for reviews...

I managed to get a crucial mx300 for £74 off eBay 500gb,the load times are very noticeable especially on games like battlefield,I'm allways the first one in a game without doubt, also when leaving games in battlefield it can take a very long time to quit out but im allways out in like 10/15 seconds at the most.

Found one of these at a reasonable price, was looking at 1TB but to be honest, I have never run out of room on my PS3 or 4 or gone over 500gb so Im guessing this should be OK.

Just to be a pain could anybody please confirm that this would fit?

ps4 is designed to let you replace the hard drive. the panel on the left just slides off, undo the 4 screws and the drive bay pops out. Remove the drive by unscrewing the holding screws and replace with new ssd and retrace steps. Get the ps4 OS from sony website and follow the guides  on installing OS. Takes about 30 mins to do in total but the drive swap takes roughly 2 minutes.

Is that a reputable site?

I would take a look at slickdeals.net to find deals on a drive. It's worth waiting for one to show up
