PingPlotter results

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals.

I have linked a couple of pics from my results from Pingplotter. Can anyone please have a look to see if I have any problems with my line?

First one is from my Talktalk router, the other with the Duma connected, both hard wired direct.

I cant really understand to well how bad it is??

The reason for me doing this is because while playing IW on Ps4 I feel like it lags at times  and frames go missing.

My set up is Talktalk HG633 - Netduma - Ps4, all other deviced connected to Duma via wifi.

Im on TalkTalk Fibre medium this is what I copied from th Talktalk router info page:

DSL synchronization status: Up
Connection status: Showtime
WAN IP Address: 79.70.9.239
Primary DNS Server: 78.151.239.3
Secondary DNS Server: 78.151.235.132

Line Quality

Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 1999
Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 39806
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 18.4
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 7.6
Upstream interleave depth: 1
Downstream interleave depth: 5
Line standard: VDSL2
Upstream line attenuation (dB): 6
Downstream line attenuation (dB): 17.9
Upstream output power (dBm): 1.5
Downstream output power (dBm): 10.5

Channel type: Interleaved

If there is a problem with my line at least I can show them this. Is this the best I can get from Talktalk?

What interval is this set to?

Do not use under a 2.5 interval when testing.

The peaks on the plot will be usage on your line at the time of test unless no one was using the net apart from the test.

A 70% congestion control while using the net and testing with PP will show you how it is curbing the peaks.

Your router stats are fine.

Hi Zen

Thanks for the reply.

I did the test with 2.5 interval. There was nothing else connected apart from the laptop i did the test on.

When you say 70% congestion control do you mean put both sliders to 70% and try the test while say streaming something from the same laptop doing the actual test? Should I have the hyperlane off? I will try this and post the results.

Thanks again for the help

Hi Fraser,Zen

I have completed the tests with me streaming a 20 minute video from youtube, wired direct to the R1, congestion 70% up 70%down,  here are my pingplotter results:

What do you guys think?

I have alsoposted to the talktalk forum to see if an OCE can help try to sort this out

Thanks again

You can see the congestion control is curbing the download from lots of jitter unlike the modem only plot.

What exactly do you think is wrong? its all working as expected.

TBH Zen

Ive come to the conclusion that IW is broken. I seem to pump opponents full of lead yet they just hit me once and im done. I just wanted to make sure that it was not my line that was causing me to lag. Also since IW has introduced the network symbols on the left side of the screen in certain games the packet loss icon in red comes on. I suppose I just wanted to make sure that it is me thats shit at the game and not the game that is making me shit.....LOL

Just to conclude that you think my ping, jitter, packet loss and settings are ok

Thanks again all for your help

The Netduma is suppressing the spikes caused by youtube.

I would say that the larger spikes are on the line (or caused by the HG633) as they appear on both plots.

I would agree with Boom, the duma's doing what it's suppose to,now to figure out if it's the line or the HG633.

Ok Zen

This is the Pingplotter results with the Netduma connected via ethernet with the congestion set to 70% up and down.

I was given by a friend to try the Tp Link Archer VR900 V2 Modem/router just to see if there was any difference in case it was the talktalk router that was causing me problems.

What do you think? Is it better or worse than previous?

Thanks again for the help

Hi Zen

No! No other traffic. Just the netduma at 70% each way.

I will do another test with 70% each way on the Netduma and streaming a video from Youtube next and post results.

Thanks again guys

That's the way to do it,exactly as you did in your first plot, that way it's the same conditions... stress your network to find out how it preforms under load.

Ok guys

I retested using pingplotter with the Duma wired via ethernet at 70% each way streaming a 10 minute video on youtube. I noticed the spikes at the start and towards the end of the plot which i think is when i switched the quality of the video to 1080p just as a test to really push my internet to work at its hardest, I did notice the video was buffering quite a bit. Although Inbetween the plot looks ok to me.

What do you guys think?

Also i was just wondering if there are any settings to my Tp-Link Archer v900 v2 that I need to do. From when I installed it I have not set up anything and it works ok, just seeing if there is any tweeks to do to make it better.

Thanks again guys for all your input

It does look like the R1 kept your ping low throughout. What are your speeds? Can it handle 1080p? Did you lower to 70 just before starting the video/raise it just before the video ended? It can take a few seconds to properly settle down.

Hi Fraser

My speeds are 40down 2up, Is this enough speed for 1080p??

The sliders were set to 70% each way well before starting the test.

I only changed the quality of the youtube video to 1080p about 2mins before the end, as you can see from the graph.
