Hey, welcome to the forum!

For a start it's not set up for your speeds. Input 60/4 into bandwidth settings and allow it to auto update for you.

Your base ping is quite unstable. 26ms difference at the ends of the range. I would use a program like PingPlotter and test the connection over different times/days. Then take the results to your ISP and see if there is anything they can do to improve it. If you take your base ping at the maximum you won't be able to get games under 49ms.

I would also put your console in hyper traffic as well.

Should I put my isp speed (60/4) it says it provides or my (40/3) actual speed from a hard wired speed test.

I download ping plotter    but what should I tell my Isp     that it fluctuates ?

Already have hyperlane so thats a plus

I was getting spikes yesterday is there any tips to lower it

Oh boy....

Okay, so this isn't the WORST we have seen, so there is a plus for you.

Put the speed in that you are paying for and let's keep that variable constant.  I personally think THERE IS a problem in your ISP's line, I'd bet a small fortune on it, but let's do some basic due diligence to make sure.

Now that you have PingPlotter, we are going to want to collect (2) samples.

Set up:  You are going to want to ping an active and constantly running source.  We have been using Google, but recently we have seen some strange responses, so I have seen people switch to Twitter, or similar.  You will enter that in the target slot on the upper left (I think depending on your version - I have a Mac and haven't used it in a bit, so I apologize).  On the frequency of the measuring I think we have been having people run 2.5s per, but you can play with that to see if there is a further need to sample more often.

First Sample:  We want to determine what your network, the part your ISP provides and maintains for you, is like when no one is using it.  Ideally we would like to have a sample from about 0200hrs to about 0400hrs when most of the neighbors are fast asleep in their beds and not using massive quantities of bandwidth.  Usually an hour is enough time, but if you can grab a couple of hours that will help.  This will be "about as good as your network can be" right now.

  • Run from your laptop, not the game console - pretty basic but in case anyone is reading this later on.
  • Sliders at 100%
  • DO NOT put your laptop in Hyper Lane for this test
  • We don't want a lot of internet traffic in your house at this time, so hopefully you will be sleeping as well. :)

Second Sample:  This one is going to be more crucial because it's going to be taken when most people are using the network, and probably when you are trying to game.  This sample should follow the same set-up and time frame as your initial sample.  If they are different addresses, or one is short and one is 2 hours long, it won't be a great measurement.  We will want to try and get a quick network in your house too, so maybe run while dinner out is occurring, a movie, something to give you a couple of hours of quiet home network time just after the dinner hour in your neighborhood.  Theory being that most people will be surfing/streaming during that time and when the network will be at the noisiest.

  • Everything the same set up as before

Take those samples and bring the results back.  The first sample will show us the best quality you have right now and the second will show us a delta of how far it goes to shit during heavy usage.

The difference/delta will be where we start and it WILL involve some painful conversation with your ISP, but we can help a bit with that to give you some tips to get the best "service" you can.

Caveat:  I worked in Cable TV for close to 15 years and I have worked on Charter Communications plant in two states during that time.  Cable TV is not the ideal medium for gaming in a quick response, twitch shooter like CoD or Halo.  Personally my local Cable network was bad enough that I just decided to switch to ADSL for my gaming needs.

But the #DumaArmy is happy to help our own, so let's get some data and see if we can't get you with some answers.

Show them your Ping Diagnostics results too. The netduma turns the internet off when running the tests so its an accurate line test and doesn't get affected by other devices.

I would re-iterate the above; could you try getting some ping plotter results at different times of the day? This does seem like it could be an ISP issue. Try out a different ethernet cable / different ports in the router. Are all your devices going through the Netduma, or are some connected to the ISP? And are you running your games wirelessly or wired?

I feel bad for him as he has Charter as an ISP and cable sucks for a steady line. And that is my personal experience with them, unwilling to acknowledge any issues on their end even thou I provided 30 days worth of info showing severe node overload and a line loaded with noise (jitter),my solution to the problem was to get a new ISP and the issue was solved.

Best of luck getting your issue sorted.

You really need to take a long snap shot its only showing a minute

Anyhow in the first picture your ping brick walls and you get 125ms instant rise of ping which is very unusal

In the second picture you have packet loss on the last hop which is not good.

Longer tests are needed please.

More tests are probably needed. If your base ping is bad to begin with, the Netduma can only help so much in this case. You should really get a couple of hours at least of ping plotter results and send that and more information to your ISP to see if they can fix it from their end.
