Any likely increase in ethernet throughput

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I just wanted to find out if there is any likely speed increase (Internet speed) on the ethernet through upcoming updates?

I'm on plusnet 80mb and use to get around 74mb on their router. Since I changed to the netduma at Christmas, it's been at around 65mb. Are there any upcoming updates that are likely to see this get better and get closer to what I can actually get?

It's not a massive issue, it's more an irritation. I do however have downloads that depend on this speed so that extra would be good to get back.

The alternative option is to get a second router and use that (improving the WiFi) at the same time but don't think that would work with netduma controls.

Thanks for any input

You do know that the router can go at about 800 Mbps wired right?

Are you running the newest version?

You can most definitely use a second router for wifi, setup as an access point.

Are you using the latest firmware if so you can input your speeds into the duma and select auto set up or follow this guide

Also have you checked directly your ISP router lately? as many factors exist like the DLM in the cabinet setting you to interleaving or cross-talk from many users being enabled at the cabinet.

As above, we can easily support your speeds. Try the following:

  • Reactive Algorithm
  • 100% anti-flood
  • Share excess enabled
  • Reset device prioritisation & apply
  • Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
  • Disable deep packet in misc
  • Do a wired speed test from a PC

Thanks guy.

Yes I am running the latest version but haven't checked recently with my original isp router.

The speeds I'm talking about have come from Internet speed test on the pc wired to the netduma.

I know I could have a second router for WiFi, but what I couldn't do is have a second router for WiFi and connect my pc wired to it and still use the netduma for the controls. Because that would mean the netduma would be first connected to the modem so the throughput of Internet speed would remain the same.

I get exactly the same speeds via ethernet (and wireless) regardless or whether I connect direct to my ISP hub or my Netduma (157/10 on one ISP line and 28/7 on the other ISP line).

If your drop in speed is not down to your ISP (or peak-time congestion) then it must be down to your settings.

If you post them we can have a look.

Thanks. The WiFi speed is just generally for media streaming, it's plenty fast enough for mobile devices.

I will hopefully try my old isp router tonight and do a speed test and also on my netduma to compare. I will also post setting screens too.

Right an update.

So before I did anything I unchecked deep packet processing and did a speed test on my netduma. I got a speed of 72mbps and thought, hmm that's higher than normal.

Then I plugged in my old isp router and did the same test on the same servers. Again, I got 72mbps and was surprised they were the same.

Then I downloaded Ubuntu using utorrent, on my isp router I got 8.7MB/s. I swapped back to my netduma and got 8.4MB/s on the same Ubuntu download.

I thought this was higher than normal so, to put it back to normal I checked deep packet processing again. On the speed test I got 69mbps, and on the Ubuntu download I got a range from 6.8MB/s to 7.3MB/s.

This must have been the reason why, deep packet processing. Although I'm sure it used to be higher still, I'm sure I've had utorrent testing at over 9MB/s. Maybe it's the result of cabinet changes on my fibre.

Still, sorry for wasting everyone's time, although it was one of the posts above that lead me to try a change in settings.

Thanks guys

Thanks for the update! If you keep the settings I had advised in my post you'll be good to go.

Great as your issue has been resolved I'll close this thread. Feel free to open another if needed :)
