Interested on people's opinions of the in game connection meter on Black Ops 3, Netduma says I'm on a 20-30 ms ping but in game its bouncing around from 50 to 60 to 108ms ?

I'd go with the R1 results, I generally get around 12 ms ping to the south coast uk dedi and pretty smooth with not to many spikes however this evening it has been going up and down like a whores draws

I believe the in game ping graph on BO3.

If i get instakilled after firing and getting no hitmarkers, I can see a large spike in the BO3 ping graph.

I believe the Netduma ping is only showing your ping to the host and the BO3 ping is showing round trip time.

I have a problem believing the BO3 in game graph, at times it shows 4ms, 6ms, 17ms and 33ms. How can I have a 4ms round trip ping when the Duma is showing a 15ms ping to the dedicated server 30km's from me?

If you factor in the lag comp, you could theoretically get a 0ms ping.

I've been noticing this also, Every random insta death I check the in game graph and a massive ping spike right at that point? I think I had like 3 good finds of Christmas noobs but the majority of level 1- 10 low level players were pure slayers haha? I couldn't even get my shots off? It's like vahn's given new players some god given connection ha? my connections have been terrible especially on p2p

It's interesting that you say the P2P connections are awful. I do agree with you on that as we are able to force P2P connections with the NETDUMA.

When I position my Geofilter and set ping assist to 0, I can get P2P connections within a close radius of my location. Problem is many of the Hosts selected have really bad connections suffering from Lag spikes, jitter and packet loss. I have found that the Dedicated server connections are far more consistent, so i set my ping assist to 38ms and connect to Dedicated servers for more consistent connections. Hit detection, however is a crap shoot, and can vary tremendously in game, as well as from game to game.

I had 1ms yesterday.

I get 1 and 0 ms all the time and it corresponds to me 'beasting' in BO3.

Anytime the BO3 ping spikes to 60ms from 30ms, I get killed.

Which is why I completely believe the BO3 ping graph.

Ever since moving my home location to connect at 30ms ping hosts from the previous 10ms hosts in my actual location,

I've been 1st place, unless there's a better player in the lobby. If i'm not in first place, I check the Lobby Leaderboard and will see someone with a better SPM (score per minute).

I obiviously don't work at Activison so don't know how it works. But I imagine their ping graph incorporates a few other factors e.g.:

  • Our ping graph ignores the LAN to the router. So if you're on wifi the interference spikes won't be seen
  • They probably include OS & engine latency. So even though packet is on a queue in your Xbox/PS it may take the game a while to read it that is probably included in the latency

The latter for example, if there is a lot going on the engine has to process a lot you'll probably see a spike. I could be completely wrong as I'm only speculating.

I think it definitely includes engine and OS lag. My PS4 slows to a crawl when there's a lot on screen.

Well put it this way the same connection meter will tell me my bandwidth is 4108kbps. I have seen it go as low as 13ms but it mostly stays on 17 or 33ms for me 50/80/100 is no good for me I won't play.

Look at the leader board after game. Notice that three yellow and two yellow bars dominate the game.

Hmmmmmmm

Still looking for the guide that tells you how to simulate those kinds of connections.
