Black Ops 3 Lag...Facepalm

Interesting, I will give it a look.

I currently have the XL2420T and have been playing with settings recently since reading the OP's post.  Found out that BENQ has some custom settings you can download for this, and other, models that have been "tuned by professional gamers" so I am going to download a couple and plug them into the Presets for a few nights.  I'll post back my results.

Do you know of a guide where I can learn on how to do this?

Some people think I am mad on here for using the Sony KDL42W705B TV but with 6ms camera input lag test and 14ms on Leo Bodnar's input lag test I think it is passable.

I can not see anything when I have tried monitors avatars look ike stick men to my buggered eye's, I do not know how you do it guy's.

the BenQ I have I believe is a 32" it has a very low lag on all reports but needed to really fiddle with it alot to optimize it. Upstairs xbone just a generic samsung monitor with I don't know what input lag or anything, just something we had laying around anyway I notice no real difference in lag or lack there of between the two. Picture quality is something else though.

Did you give them a try JD ?

I have a Mac at home, because I work in IT now, so no.  When I saw the last update was COD 3, I figured the hassle wasn't really worth it as I remember a HUGE tournament deal back in Black Ops 2 about settings being messed with and it causing an uproar.  As that was in the middle of the current cycle (COD 3 to BO3), my initial suspicion was that the time invested (for me) wasn't worth it.

How do you play on such a tiny screen? Even on my pc I plug into my 50"

Well, for starters my chair sits close to the table holding the console, I presume, like most players.  Then I prefer to play on a screen with a 1ms input lag as to opposed to a TV with a urban sloth processing speed, so......

A lot of people get mix up between 1ms refresh rate and input lag so don't feel bad for the mix up, your monitor does not have 1ms input lag no screen could possible do that Dill, it has 10ms camera input lag if it is the RL2460HT.

If you want to use a TV you have to do some homework on them, that's how I found my 6ms camera input lag TV and have not looked back, gamings been bang on since this and the duma :)

Good to know Z. Thanks for clarifying, but the Instant Game mode, or whatever the hell its called, is listed at 1ms, that is what I referenced.

I have the XL2420T, I believe.

Having been here for a bit I do defer to your wisdom though.

  • 1 month later...

Just been looking myself for a monitor to move the gaming to a dedicated room.

these Benq XL......T/Z monitors are showing insanely low input lag times when in instant mode

.

The XL2720Z is  being clocked at 1.3ms signal processing + the 1.9ms pixel response time by tft central.

So I think the claim of 1ms input lag by benq is almost justified.

Now the question is.... my current tv runs at measured 16ms input lag.

if im only playing cod on console which is generating a max of 60 fps

so a frame every 16.67 ms

do I gain anything by having a monitor that can process faster than 16 ms?

so against a gamer using a 16ms monitor then

it seems to me that, assuming all is in sync, and that I have the benq in instant mode processing at say 4ms then

if the console is delivering the frame to the monitor at 0ms then

then ben q will show you the frame at 4ms that is 12ms before the gamer using the 16ms monitor

and about 196 ms before my mate gaming on his Samsung 50in lcd tv in non gaming mode and complains that he never gets any kills.

to anyone with one of these benq's with instant mode what is the picture like in instant mode?.

I suppose it is a bit shite?????

I have the XL2420T and I am running it in Instant Mode.

I use it 98% for gaming, though I have used it to watch a guy's movie here or there.  I'm not the best judge of what is and what isn't a good picture.  I worked in CATV way to long to be able to just view something and say "Yep, that is spot on" unless it's an HD nature scene or something.

I like it.  I think the maps on PS4 look really colorful and vibrant.  I don't think the XB1 version looks as good, but I do suspect that is the game.

For movies I do change the settings, but again, it works for me and looks fine.  I don't have that videophile eye that some of you guys do though, so as always...

YMMV,

JD

XB1 is lower resolution (900p), so its games always have a slightly blurrier look to them due to this reason alone.

Also, a lot of the vibrant qualities of a game come solely from the art design (or lack of) and Treyarch makes games look like "video games" for the Pro Players e.g. bright colors on map landmarks for easy navigation, muted color palettes, so player models stand out, etc.
