Black Ops 3 Lag...Facepalm

So I've been struggling since the start of BO3 with what seems like broken lag comp. I constantly feel like I'm .5-1 second behind, and it is NOT the Netduma's fault...If anything, the Netduma is the only thing saving my sanity.

Anyway, I put my BenQ monitor into game mode... nearly had a nuclear the first game after I changed it. I've calculated myself to have a 3.4 kd in the 20+ games I've played since...

Sigh.

i used to play on my TV via my home theater system.  I look at the various display lags from the displaylag website and realized that I had a substantial display lag from them.  I switched to the Benq RL2460HT during AW and noticed the immediate difference.  I immediately started winning more gun fights.

Interesting!  :) I've always wanted to get a gaming monitor but didn't know which to get. The college that I am in offers scholarship refunds for the remaining amount that I don't use so I will definitely invest in one  Thank you for the suggestion  ^_^

Just note  that it is the input (or processing) lag of the tv or monitor that you should be concerned with not the response time.

Neither TV nor monitor companies blatantly advertise input lag because generally the better the picture quality the more processing the more input lag.

In many cases it is the simplest cheapest tvs monitors that have the least input lag as they have the least picture processing.

Eg the cheapest in the range 5 series Samsung tvs a few years ago had 11-15 ms input lag which was amazing at the time and still better than most monitors and tvs today. But the more prestigious 6,7, series had anything up to 300ms input lag.

Game mode switches off as much processing as possible to reduce input lag but still some of these high end tvs will have 100ms lag even in gaming mode

The best gaming monitors on the market have between 8-10 ms input lag although I have seen some recent claims of 4ms.

Have a look at

Yea, it solved my issue for the most part. I have been consistently very close to nuclears...able to kill 2-3 people without dying.

But I think the issue is unsolvable for most as the games lag compensation is just broken. It favors horrible connections.

which Benq do you have?   I have the benq rl2455hm and don't think it has a game mode option; not that i've seen anyways.

I was wondering that myself as I am not sure my current model has a GAME MODE.  But, you can bet I will be checking that shit out tonight, PDQ!

Just note .....

Checked out the site and it was really informative.  A great link!

Although now I see this and begin to wonder how soon that tax return will be dropping...... http://www.displaylag.com/benq-xr3501-curved-144hz-gaming-monitor-review/

Nice monitor but ain't no fucking way I'm spending 1100 dollars on a gaming monitor.I will say it is sweet looking and the specs seem really good but that's just to much coin for me for that particular toy.

It's nice but this forum is all about minimising lag.

and if your gaming on a console at 60fps then

that monitor has an input lag of 23ms.

Although that is excellent it is still on the high side compared to some much cheaper options

(also the 4ms g2g response is too high Imo and could result in motion blur)

Personally I wouldn't touch it for console gaming.

Yeah, I can't see spending that kind of coin either, but as with all things tech, I expect the next version to be out in about 13 minutes and drop the price of this model by 1/3rd.  :D

@Net-1:  What would you recommend?  What specs should a new purchaser be looking to balance out with their selection?  While I am perfectly happy with the BENQ I have (no game mode setting on my model by the way), there are some on this very forum still learning about TV versus gaming monitors and input lag.

Thanks,

JD

I currently game on a 24" 144Hz Philips LCD:

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-242G5DJEB-Extreme-Performance-Professional/dp/B00G6IWEE0

If I stream a game, I have my console(s) hooked up to the Elgato HD60 Pro capture card (PC) and then out to my monitor. If I am not streaming, I plug both into a HDMI switcher that allows me select inputs depending on the source.

Honestly, while a monitor is an overall, long-term good investment, it still can't remedy the problem of the inherent complexities of internet gaming e.g. latency, bad netcode, etc.

@Dillinger .   If I had to choose a monitor right now from 2015 models (for 60hz console gaming only) probably would be

BenQ RL2755HM

27in

10ms input lag (according to  www.displaylag.com/  )

(& a 1ms g2g pixel response)

£199

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SJANIWA

Yes there are many other areas introducing lag mostly on the input, game / server processing,  network, age and beer side

but a fast processing, directly connected, monitor / TV with low input lag (should be called output lag if you ask me)

will at least send the image held by the console to your brain in the fastest possible time so you can react on it.

Interesting, I will give it a look.

I currently have the XL2420T and have been playing with settings recently since reading the OP's post.  Found out that BENQ has some custom settings you can download for this, and other, models that have been "tuned by professional gamers" so I am going to download a couple and plug them into the Presets for a few nights.  I'll post back my results.

That's a really fast monitor, according to some reviews, in instant mode, you can get down to 5ms!!! input lag at 60hz.

I think I change my mind... I want your one!

LOL.  Instant Mode?  I don't even know what that is to be honest.

I asked some "fans-or-spectators-or-players whatever" at PAX a year or so back why they used BENQ exclusively, as there are local competitors and "local" was the flavor of the event.   Essentially the BENQ was the hot ticket and the reviews were great, so I ordered it up.

Clearly I need to download the manual and fiddle with some things.

Thanks @ Net-1!  You've inspired me to learn more about a product I own instead of just buying something else.  My wife may be reaching out to you for coaching....LOL  *respect*
