Netduma affecting speed

Recommended Posts

i have comcast internet and i have run several test with my wireless gateway via comcast and its working just fine. i did test in bridge mode and regular mode and it works fine. When i use the my comcast gateway in modem mode and use netduma as router when doing speed test my ping will jump from 8 to 75 and the download and upload varies. By several test i can tell that its the Netduma doing it. soon as i plugged it back up the speeds started acting funny again. My isp is comcast and im running 75 Down and 10 up . Can someone help me fix issue with netduma? thanks.  i tried different Ethernet cords and everything with the netduma...still happpening. any thoughts? i have used this same comcast gateway router and my old apartment and had no issues.

That is because servers can get over loaded on speedtest.net and you will get varying results at different times.

Your ping is nice and quick.

Just wondering If The EEE problem apply to this router/modem. Maybe some Comcast users can speak on it. Again it just a suggestion doesn't have to be that way.

I think the issue is with this chipset -- BCM3383 chipset.  The two modems that I know of having this chipset is

  • Arris/Motorola SB6183
  • Netgear CM500

I don't know of any combo router/modems but they could exist.

That's what he is saying, it's the same server but the ping is way higher, it's not always consistent because they can get overloaded.

If you're really concerned that your ping may be fluctuating hugely like this you could do an Internet Diagnostic on the duma or use something like PingPlotter

I have had alot of dealings with comcast. I email the ceo so I usually have every senior tech calling me. Yes I'm that pain in the a$$ guy. Anyway they do have a just modem/phone thingy that I am currently using. It took like 4 or 5 of the modem/gateways to not work before getting this, and a bunch of other repairs. They do have them and as the tech told me they are pushing the other ones for some reason. Let me know how you make out. Oh did you put the comcast thing in bridge mode? Can you plug a laptop directly into the modem and test speeds after in bridge and see if that is where the difference is?
