Ping Heatmap not giving correct/accurate ping for the state of Florida for COD. Ping Heatmap is showing 21 ms and in-game I have between 65-75 ms constant.

Where are you based approximately - which ping is more accurately what you would expect from the Florida server generally?

I live in Florida. But anyways unfortunately I had to go back to the standard .134 firmware since the router got bricked after a reset due to intermittent internet. I spend the whole day dealing with it, now is good. Besides that Ping Heatmap, I have a more important issue. From default Upnp comes ON correct? So would I benefit more for streaming movies and gaming with it off than on?? And how updated security wise is Upnp in the xr500 .134 firmware?? Thanks in advance. 👍

I think the ping was probably correct and the server was undergoing heavy load at the time which is why it was higher in game than on the Geo. UPnP is enabled by default yes, in most cases I'd generally suggest just leaving it on to avoid any issues. The security updates are for any vulnerabilities that have been reported in general to the router industry and fixed before they become public and they don't have anything on UPnP so it'll be fine!

ok, I appreciate the reply and clarification about UPnP. If I encounter any new issue, I'll let you guy know. Before I go, would I be in a disadvantage by going back to the standard .134 firmware?? Cheers

Depends what you mean by disadvantage, you'd lose any 3.3 features/changes but other than that you'd be fine to

Hey XR500 users!

To coincide with the XR700’s Early Access release of DumaOS 3.3, we’re happy to announce that the 3.3.535 firmware for the XR500 has entered Open Beta stage.

This build is expected to go through NETGEAR’s QA process and eventually become an official release for the XR500, but in the meantime you’re free to use this as a beta firmware.

3.3.535 adds support for the new DumaOS For Mobile - a flexible view that works in virtually any viewport, with massively improved response times and speed. This is best experienced via the DumaOS app which, as of this firmware, fully integrates the webview format for any platform that supports it.

---

NOTE: This step must be completed first prior to upgrading to the latest firmware.

However, due to an firmware size limit with stock firmware, there is an important one-off step you need to take before moving over to the latest firmware.

Please download the below intermediary firmware, and upgrade your XR500 to it first:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hpeb2w2m4mvmv3q/INTERMEDIARY_FIRMWARE.img?dl=0

It’s important that you DON’T keep your XR500 on this intermediary firmware - there are known issues with it.

In case you're not sure how to get to the upgrade screen, this video from YourSixStudios does a good job explaining:

Once that’s done, you can go ahead and install the latest firmware which can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n5nk0fxkhzosvp2/XR500-V2.3.2.134-dumaos33-rc14.img?dl=0

This firmware also contains multiple fixes and improvements to DumaOS and we’re confident in it as a candidate for NETGEAR to release fully for the XR500. All of us here hope you enjoy using it.

If you are having trouble upgrading/get incorrect firmware file when upgrading to the firmware from the intermediary firmware:

Upgrade to this version:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/mb7hztmwpxnpz2i/XR500-V2.3.2.134-dumaos33-rc10.img?dl=0 then upgrade to the latest.

I have an XR500 on the latest firmware from Netgears website. You mentioned early on this firmware would be sent through Netgears approval process and turned into a full release. That seems to be a year ago. Are you still pushing to have an official update through Netgears for the xr500?

If not, is there a reason to update or not to update to beta? And what steps should I take as a precaution in case things go wrong? Like download a copy of the newest firmware from Netgears alongside the two from you? And are those two betas from last year relevant still or is there newer?

Yes I have heard recently that they're still planning to do this but I can't give you a date. This is the latest beta and still worth upgrading to in the meantime while you wait in my opinion.

Will updating from the beta and the eventual final release be smooth as in just uploading a firmware? Also, will downgrading out of beta back to the current version be easy if any problems arise?

Both easy as just uploading the firmware you want to be on - you can downgrade/upgrade by doing that, no special steps needed

It's a bit pathetic that I have to disable QOS on this latest firmware otherwise random domains just start timing out. I'm not the only one to report this issue either. Have you given up on this router then now? I was going to buy the new Duma router but what is the point. It's probably likely to have unacceptable bugs that never get fixed if this router is anything to go by

There won't be any more feature updates but we will do some more bug fixes updates from what I've been told

Problem with latest firmware. Started happening 2-3 days ago. Adblocker breaks many streaming services like paramount+ & hulu. We had to disable the adblocker on the router to get our smart tvs to work properly again. Pc worked mostly fine with adblocker enabled. Only paramount+ stopped working on pc.

Check the URLs that are being blocked and then add them to your whitelist and it won't block them

Lol. No. there are way too many. This is something you guys should be fixing. Ad blocker doesn't even function properly if its breaking basic things like streaming apps. I just disabled it.

Services like that are quite hard to block as they often serve the ads using the same domains as the video itself which means if you block one you block both, it's why it doesn't block YT for example. We can look into it to see if it's different in this scenario.
