Need some help...

Recommended Posts

...one of my friends who I talked into buying a duma is having some issues. And I'll do my best to explain the issues...

His wife and daughter's internet drops or won't connect via wireless to the duma.It see's the laptops as they have been used before, but it seems to be hit or miss depending on what other devices are on.For example if his PS4 and laptop with the duma are on ,his daughter can't connect to the internet it gives a network adapter error. But if he connects to his daughter's laptop hardwired it connects fine.

And his wife's will drop the wifi during use or can't connect to the internet and gets the same network adapter error. And this happens about half the time they go to use their computers. So you can imagine the amount of shit he's getting, his wife want's him to get rid of the duma and use their old router.

I had him try the wifi work around, both on and off didn't seem to make a difference.

We gotta get this guy fixed or he will be duma less and I feel like it's my fault cuz I talked him into getting one.

Any ideas ?

Is the wireless turned off on his other router as that could cause interference.

Also, could you ask him to try another Wifi channel. He can find the least congested one with this tool :)

Finally could you make sure that you keep the Wifi workaround off.

@Crossy the duma is the only router in his set up.

Will have him switch the wifi channel

Ok i'll make sure he has the Wifi workaround off

Was thinking about having him put his other router back in his set up and put it in AP mode and see if that helped.

I'll let you know how it comes out Crosy as his family has about had it with the duma

Thanks for the info

That might be a good idea to set his other router up in AP mode then turn the Wifi off on the Netduma.

The switch form 2 ghz to 5 ghz on devicecs is not yet complete.

You would be amaized how many devices runs on those freq.

The place i work for we provide video and audio links on 5 ghz every sigle place we go to setup one we have to take some serious sectrum analising to actually find less used freq. Sometimes its a few hours job just to find right place. For both TX and RX.

so yebs defently would check the tool provided by crrosy and play with channels and different freq

I'm not a windows user mate, but I assume something physically wrong with the network card. But if it works with other routers that doesn't really make sense? It could just be a vague windows error message saying ti can't connect to the Internet. Hopefully someone else can help here.

If the suggestions don't fix it is it possible to get your friend in chat one of these days?

Right click on the connection icon near the clock if its win 7 or 8 it might be hiden in the triangle just click the triangle to show it. I will be monitor symbol or wifi signal strength icon

Click on open network sharing center

Click change adaptor settings

Click on the network and press diagnose , to rule out a fault there.

OK followed all of the suggestions above and here's what we came up with...the problem seems to be a conflict between his lap top and his daughters laptop. If he's on his laptop his daughter can't connect to the internet. If we disconnect his computer then his daughter can connect and then he can reconnect after that but she can't if he's on first.

So i have no idea what the hell is going on,we ran the tools to change to the best channel that Crossy suggested but he was on the least crowded and best channel.Ran the diagnostic tools Zennon suggested and it said no problems found,so would be great to get this sorted out as his family is not loving the duma at the moment.

And I was gonna set him up with his old router in AP mode but his old router is a 2.4 only no 5 g,so that's out.

Any clue as to what's going on ?

It sounds like maybe one of the devices could be set up with a static IP. Make sure they are both set up with Dynamic IP addresses. Here is a guide for changing between static and dynamic IP addresses :)

As Crossy and Zennon have stated this would be my first thought to a network adapter error. Network and sharing center > change adapter settings > right click the wireless > untick ipv6 > click ipv4 and click properties > ensure both settings are set to automatic. Do this on both laptops.
