Tanky
Hi All, Can anyone help me with setup? Been looking around at various videos and the latest 'thing' i'm seeing is BufferBloat. Two images, first is direct from my ISP router, second is via Duma after some adjustment to get A+ bufferbloat. The issue is that apparently I'm dropping or re-transmitting over 12% of packets. Misc: Enabled Enable deep packet processing. Enable upnp forwarding. Enable cookies. I've tried rebooting, removing other devices, wireless disabled and various settings on and off. I've also played around with the U/L D/L caps + Algorithm. The highest I get it via the Duma is a C, but bloat is way off. Like most of lllRL's posts, i'm just outside of London and it's pretty bad the majority of the time. Cheers, Tanky
RL317
Are you using reactive or unticking share excess by any chance? I'm only on 52/10 with BT Infinity but get A+ bufferbloat with 99% sliders. I recently discovered that you should neither drop your speed too low, nor use reactive or untick share excess, or you will drop packets even if it guarantees you an A+ for bufferbloat. In fact quality is more important because packet loss is always going to be there until you fix it; bufferbloat is only there if you're hammering your connection with other devices while playing. You should have an A+ for quality right down until around 1Mb upload - after that it starts to go downhill. If you don't use reactive and share excess is ticked (try hitting the reset device prioritisation button too), can you try running a test with new cables to rule out damage? Tanky
I've been using reactive but leaving share excess ticked with distribution all even. Whilst writing this I downgraded the OS from the recent fix for wireless, because it all started to be an issue from then.. So perhaps that wasn't helping. 100% up and down looks better. Still not able to get an A when I adjust sliders though, but it's a start.
Tanky
I just got this with preemptive, 30 down and 85 up.
RL317
I just got this with preemptive, 30 down and 85 up. Can you get A+ with something like 70/70 preemptive? What firmware did you downgrade to? I find that reactive doesn't cause packet loss on 1.03.4 lol
Tanky
Firmware is now @ 1.03.6g running on rb-951g-2hnd. This is with preemtive This is with reactive No settings changed between tests.

I think that speaks volumes lol. Exactly the same bandwidth but you go from A+ to D for quality?! Did the preemptive test give you exactly 0% packet loss? Weird how upgrading seems to have helped though. Now that you're back on the current firmware, I'd suggest totally avoiding reactive or unticking share excess because they always give me problems on 1.03.6. BIG__DOG
using dsl reports is highly inaccurate as you are relying on their servers and that they are running as they should be. You would be better using pingplotter to actually test your connection direct from your modem to an ip address such as bbc, twitter or google and monitor your line for jitter (bufferbloat) which is extremely accurate! I can have a bufferbloat of A+ and run the same test a minute later and get an A or a B with dslreports!
Tanky
In the current settings, the only thing that fluctuates is bufferbloat from A+ to A. Can't do extended periods on pingplotter but it's pretty stable. I even run a dsl report and it stayed pretty flat.
Glazeko
Usually preemptive is the worst for me. My speeds are 300 down and 25 up. I put my download slider to 90% and upload to 55% to have the least ping spikes while my connection is being completely hammered. I also unticked share access only for download. i have 6 devices. And it makes the download spikes even more stable. I also don't use hyper lane, i notice no difference at all. I usually don't go by the results that dslreports gives. I use pingplotter which is way better. U can see everything that happens in real time. At least with pingplotter you can hammer your connection and adjust the sliders to find which setting give u the less ping spikes.
iAmMoDBoX
Also, you should have deep packet processing disabled.
antithesis
Also, you should have deep packet processing disabled. This. I can't even get the Bufferbloat test to display on DSLReports on multiple PCs, iDevices and consoles these days (Quality and Speed still work), so instead I watch the Jitter and Ping results live in Pingplotter while adjusting the Congestion Control sliders. iAmMoDBoX
This. It's not a reliable test... Neither is pingplotter honestly unless you are testing your speeds and ping on two separate devices.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 23, 2017 Administrators Share Posted October 23, 2017 Would reiterate what others have said. Surprised you weren't more concerned with your speed loss but deep packet being disabled will help with that.
