SonnyBeVapin Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Ok so I have a modem/router combo which has the netduma as a DMZ. My question is, what are the advantages or disadvantages of having all other hardware connect to the wifi off the original modem/router and just my xone and pc connect (hardwired) to the netduma? What features of netduma will not work with this method? Hope this makes sense. Thanks
Zennon Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Congestion control will not stop ping spikes / jitter when other users on your network open web pages , stream/download. You need to turn off WiFi on the modem/router and have all traffic wired and WiFi running through the duma I use 70% congestion control while gaming.
SonnyBeVapin Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 Ok so congestion control is the main feature that will not be used when doing it how i mentioned? I game primarily at night when others are sleeping, so not really sure congestion control is beneficial at that point anyways. SO Im thinking I am good to go with having just my xone and pc wire into the netduma, right?

Who knows what ISP hubs are up to half the time but if you don't mind taking the risk of spikes then go for it.

You can do that if you wish but background updates on devices can cause spikes and jitter so would always recommend congestion control. Plus even when you're not gaming its a great feature to prevent any buffering when watching videos etc.
