Lag spikes only during gunfights!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Good morning to everyone.

I discovered last night a frustrating issue in black ops 3, during the game play in multiplayer maps, all along I am moving around the map the PING bar shows between 67-84 ms. instantly when I get killed in what it seems to be unfair gunfight, I switch to start quickly to see that PING bar has raised into a spike over 110 ms just for two seconds - the time of the gunfight- and got back to previous 67 ms again afterwards, RAAAAAGE , Arghhhh!!

please help, your suggestions are extremely welcome.

my setup is according to Mr. Fraser advice, 70/70 sliders, my console is on hyper lane with PlayStation Network as a service.

I don't use geo-filter due to simple reason, if I used geo-filter in my region I will not find a game lobby for 10 minutes, because my connection is super fast relative to the majority of my region and black ops 3 net code I believe won't let you in game where you have super connection advantage over lazy connection neighbors.

the following are the shots of  miscellaneous, WAN and LAN settings.

In game ping graphs are inaccurate and include engine latency.

Thank you so much

but is it a regular for the latency bar to jump around 30 ms each gunfight ?

if I used the latency bar in the Netduma itself to watch the latency will it be accurate then ?

thank you again

The Netduma ping graph is 100% accurate as far as ping measurements go. However, we can't measure the artificial lag the game adds due to the engine lag and other "conspiracy theories" about being delayed on purpose for having a better connection.

thank you, I am quiet happy of your confirmation,

another weird thing happening now in my game, after your advice I went directly to the Netduma, and enabled the geo-filter for the first time since too long. I set my distance to 6000Km including the Europe region, I can't find any game ! ... looks like the game is saying to me: play at New Jersey server or don't play !

any suggestions my friend ??

thank you

I don't know if it's been fixed but there was an issue a while ago with an update that seemed to break the game... Try restarting your console with the geo filter off - then when you're in game, before you pick a playlist enable it and then search for a game.

Make sure auto&bleeding edge cloud are ticked and applied. Click apply again if they already are to reflush the cloud. This can help with niggling issues like that may pop up. What country are you located in?

thank you so much Mr. Fraser.

I will do as you say, I hope it will help

I am located in Saudi Arabia by the way.

thank you.

Also, if I am not using Geo-filter at all, do I need this cloud setup?

thanks

regarding lag spikes especially while shooting in a gun fight.......i have noticed that your ping in dsl reports is quite high 63 - 110, that is pretty damn high if you are on fibre which i think you are looking at your speeds. 9 out of 10 times if your in a fight with a player with a ping of 15 you are gonna die....fact.......if you watch this video and follow it it is possible to get that ping lowered by getting the right congestion control for your connection even if it is only by a few ms. Having said that if had those base pings you got i wouled be changing providers as your ping is terrible and all the netduma can do is stop in game lag but it cannot help you win a gun fight against a player with a player with a ping quarter to what you have. It can give you a chance but that is it.

hope this video helps and just incase you havent slected close countries to you in dsl reports go into setting on their gui and set them as you could be pinging server tests way far far away which will give you an inaccurate ping result.

One thing to bear in mind is that your base ping is probably really high. Try doing a network diagnostics test on the Netduma; it'll say your base ping in there. (If you can't find it, post some screenshots of it here and we'll take a look). Base ping can't be changed by the Netduma.

So if your base ping is high and you use ping assist, you'll struggle to find games. Try Big Dogs suggestion though and let us know how you get on :)

thank you so much Mr. Big dog

I agree with you, my base ping is so high due to my location, the dsl reports site measures delay with europe which is at least will give me this latency.

I will do as you suggest of adjusting the congestion control, and also I will set the geo-filter to p2p host in my region.

thanks

thanks Mr. Jack ,

I really got the point, my latency with europe is pretty high, I will do a network diagnose and also call my isp. either they fix this or I am forced to switch isp.

thank you

Why are u lowering your mtu? I'd what I'm wondering. Fuck up the packets being sent?

hello,

thank you so much ,

but I have a PPPoE connection at my end which supports MTU up to 1492 only on my fiber hub. that is why I am using 1492 in the Netduma also.

thanks.

No you wouldn't need to worry about the cloud if you're not using the Geo-filter.

Keep us updated!

Thanks Mr. Fraser

actually I am back to using Geo-filter, as the other friends Mr. Jack and Mr. Big Dog  told that my base ping is so high toward Europe, I need to connect p2p in my local region by limiting the Geo-location 1000 KM around me.

Good News that today, just today , I found that Sony had operated a server in Riyadh - Saudi Arabia , I confirmed that by looking into the Geo-Location red circle while test my network speed in PS4. the red circle in Riyadh shows clearly that I am connected to a server there and the Nat type is 2 . Before, whenever I apply Geo-filter to my region and test with PS4 I get Nat type Failed.

Thanks again, I will keep you updated.

Hello everyone .

just to point things up.

what you see in my measure of dslreports.com is NOT my base ping. it is my ping toward Europe, and it is also my actual ping during game play of Black Ops 3.

this is my base ping toward my first hope:

5711770949.png

and due to the issue of lag spikes, I may have found a hint I think:

4qrmft.png

as you can see there are up normal spikes in bandwidth usage according to Network Monitor.

I see these spikes often and many time I see them arrive to 9 Gbps bandwidth, which doesn't make sense.

your suggestions are extremely welcome.

thank you.

Spikes and jitter can hint towards a problem with your line; it'd be great if you could do an Internet Diagnosis on the Netduma interface to see how bad those spikes are. Those bandwidth spikes shouldn't affect your gameplay too much; it's ping spikes you need to worry about. Bandwidth spikes are often explained by what you're using the Internet for.

It's good to hear you've found a decent server; let us know how you get on with a Netduma Internet Diagnosis :)

Looks pretty good to me. Very little jitter, no packet loss and ping is decent as google servers are far away from Saudi Arabia. You have a very good connection. Black ops 3 servers are having issues these days and are unreliable. Im getting a few connection interruptions in black ops 3 while every other game runs fine.

thank you deeply much Mr. maazsk97

Now I understand ,, as many others told, the game is semi BROKEN now days.

thank you so much of clarifying and confirming things to me. :D

The network monitor was that your console? If so was it downloading something? It should not be using that much at all.

Your base ping appears to be around 80ms but fairly stable. If you do a normal speed test what is the ping it returns? Is it the 1ms as shown above? Connecting further away will always mean more latency so P2P in your immediate area would be the best option really.
