bo3 ping

Recommended Posts

hey guys, im getting ping over like 70 in bo3 matches and i did a speedtest on dsl reports and i could an A for blufferbloat and quality but i got a D for speed. will this effect gaming?

Hi tellto - Is the question about the speed rating of "D" specifically?  As in, "if I had an 'A' for for speed, would my game be better"?

Or do you have another question in regards to those ratings?

Sorry, coming in what appears to be half a conversation here and in the Shoutbox.

So the rating on those sites, and this is a bit of an educated guess, are based on the wide spectrum of results they are comparing against.  For instance if you selected one variant, like Fiber or DSL, and were on the low end of EVERY OTHER like test that was run, you would have a lower grade than others.  If the "host server" that you are testing against is right across the street, and you have one of the fastest round trips to THAT location, you would have a better overall grade than others running the same test.  Thus you get a grade, I believe, based on your contemporaries that also ran the same test.

This really won't affect your gaming in my personal opinion if looked at just in a bubble like this is being asked.

The QUALITY of the line, bringing information to you and sending information from you, is more important.  If you have a lightning fast ping, but your line is saturated with other users, high jitter and unstable line levels (which cause other equipment to self adjust) you are not going to have a great experience.

On the other hand, if you have a 40ms ping, but your line is clean and pristine and has no negative effects on it, you are going to have a much easier time playing a fast moving game like CoD.

Does that help?

I would reiterate the above - your gaming experience will be affected by an unstable connection. To improve your experience, set your Ping Assist to less than 60ms and try applying strict mode to get a better ping. You could also put your distance slider to 1000km, Your jitter stat shouldn't be too much of a problem if your diagnostics say "GOOD".

Could you run another Internet Diagnosis, click "show more", and send a screenshot showing your base ping etc?

If you follow the advice above and post your results it will be easier to see if you have an ISP issue from jitter or another issue. The guys here are exceptional at diagnosing and getting users issues sorted out.

Yeh, you have a bit of jitter on your line, that will cause some connection issues I expect.

Your ping isn't bad but it isn't great either. But that's your line, it's likely you can't do anything about it - unless it's resolvable issue with your ISP.

You can ask if there's a known fault with your area, have an engineer come and check it out, etc (check if you'll be charged first though, some ISPs charge if they don't find a fault).

But your ISP will nearly always tell you there is nothing wrong with it anyway.

I had a really bad connection for a month or so - there worst jitter and spiking you can imagine and gaming was impossible.

They couldn't resolve it so I had to change ISP.

You really need to download PingPlotter (it's free for a few weeks), plot some graphs with it, and get some evidence of your connection issues.

We can have a look at your graphs and tell you if they look ok, or if they are a bit dodgy or shockingly bad.
